  1. Sounds to me like its either the throw out bearing or the bearing in the flywheel. Thats what mine did on my car....push clutch in and the noise stops. They are both a lot easier and cheaper to replace than the input shaft bearing. So hopefully for your sake I'm right! I'm sure someone else will have an opinion as well.
  2. Not really. It means that your valve cover gaskets are leaking. There are actually rubber seals that go around the spark plug openings in the valve cover and that means they are leaking. It can and will cause your car to skip and sputter at times so You should probably change your valve cover gaskets, plugs and might as well change wires too!
  3. yeah good luck getting the check engine light to stay away! I don't think I've ever seen a Loyale with out the cel on! Welcome to the board!!! This place is great!!
  4. Yeah I looked and I don't have any real good pics so I will try to take some and post them. But just to let you know...For the rear mount I used the two bolt holes on the back of the motor on that side on the top...then I used the stock bolt holes in the front but I cut the front mount and welded it back together at an angle, so that the pump would line up with the belt path. The resevoir is actually at a little bit of an angle.
  5. Hell the orange stuff even causes problems in the Gm's and dodges! That stuff is junk and I would never use it, I've seen way to many problems caused by it!
  6. Also check the gas filler tube, I have seen many of these leak and you can't really see the leak because there is a cover over it and they fill up with road dirt and when they leak you can really smell gas. So its worth checking it out
  7. Yeah it sucks mine has 130,xxx miles and leaking out of the passenger side head gasket. Other than that I love the car but I'm not lookin forward to replacing them!!! I just keep driving it and checking the coolant level a lot!!
  8. i used factory ps on my ea81 spfi conversion, i had to weld on brackets/modify existing. it stays on the same side and uses a longer belt. I will try to get some pics.
  9. You can get them through SJR he does the adapters. sjrlift.com
  10. Yeah I have the same conversion that a friend of mine did and yeah its great!! My friend did a really clean job so it looks completely stock too! It always starts and it never stalls or runs bad. And it never stalls when at extreme angles, its great. But, I still wish I had more power...The EJ swap would be even better!
  11. Yeah never! I've seen this on more than one occasion! It used to piss me off when someone would bring there car to my friend and I to work on, and they would have just had work done at the dealer....except for the fact that there was no evidence of the work!
  12. My mom had hers read at a chevy dealership and they read the codes cleared them and researched the code for her which was dealer specific all for free so thats why I said check around but its probably easier to just go to a subaru dealer.
  13. many garages will read your computer and tell you what the code is for free so check around!
  14. Yeah I second this!!! it would be cool to have an actual decal that was designed as a group!!!
  15. Yeah if you have worn brake pads then the wheels will fit fine but if you have new-ish pads than the calipers will hit on the spokes of the wheel
  16. Yup probably one of the few places you could pick one up! I did forget about that!! I've seen a few of those go bad so I bet nippers right!!!
  17. I had one! It was red and an '89 of course. I had it lifted and I bought it for $190 with a bad motor. The motor was knocking horribly and I drove it about 60 miles home at about 70 the whole way!!! It made it! I loved that car. It was the only rust free subaru I'd ever had and it went anywhere, but I was a dumb rump roast and sold it! Huge regret!!!
  18. It sounds pretty cool to me of course I would really be online only!
  19. Maybe cv's? I had a cv that wasn't making any real noise and the boot wasn't ripped but it would bind up every now and then? But your sounds a little different. :-\
  20. I remember when I pulled back the rugs on mine! NOT GOOD! I had to replace a lot of the floor! But better do it sooner than later! The longer you wait the worse it will get!!! I say we go out west and grab a few rust free shells!!!! Good luck with it!
  21. Done a couple on Loyales. Not that hard just use wire to cut the old one out and thoroughly clean the surface. Go buy some 3M caulk for installing windshields then put a fairly heavy bead down so that there will be no leaks then...with help...lay the new windshield in. Use small pieces if wood or plastic to space up the bottom so that the windshield trim will fit back in after the caulk has set up enough to hold the windshield in place. Hope this helps! I know its different on an EA81 car and might be a little different in a newer car but not sure! Good luck!
  22. I love mine and it when it was closer to stock form having it for a daily driver was awesome and reliable!! And I transported a 12k generator that weighed around 850lbs without any trouble at all! So I dunno what the others are really talking about with a 450 lb load having trouble? But that's just my experience!! But I also wouldn't do it often...its just not meant for it. They are a little quirky but hey that's part of the experience! I would also say that the EJ swap is the way to go even though I haven't done it but yeah close to double the power with a very reliable motor, how can you go wrong!! Oh and as far as GD's comment about them all being 4x4...I had a friend that had a Gen 1..can't remember exactly what year but it was a 2 wheel drive and was sold at the dealer new with a plow! Doesn't make a lot of since but just thought I'd throw that in. Anyways I would buy another brat in a second after owning mine for several years now. So go for it but take care of it!! And feel free to ask questions when it comes time to fix it!!
