  1. I just did some similar work on my '87 RX. Here's what I did. 1) I decided to retain the RX struts, they weren't leaking and the dampening force is much higher than any other EA82. 2) I kept the front springs, they have the highest spring rate of the EA82's except maybe the XT6. I did however cut 1/2 coil from the spring and reshaped them for the spring pocket, lowering the car about 1/1.5 inches. 3) I replaced the rear springs with 4wd wagon springs. They have a higher spring rate than the RX and they are longer. I cut 1 coils off these springs and reshaped them for the spring pocket. This made up for the additional length and lowered the car about 1/1.5 inches. Note: after cutting the rear springs 1 coil they were just long enough to have tension with the strut fully extended. Any shorter and the might make funny noise or even come out of the spring pockets when the suspension is unloaded. 4) I replaced the stock 18mm front sway bar with a 19mm unit from a RX sedan and the 16mm rear sway bar with a 20mm unit from a XT Turbo. It took just a few hours for this ghetto job. I would like to lower the car more and look for springs and/or struts from other cars that might work since after market EA82 performance suspension parts are rare. The car has a much more appealing stance now and handles MUCH better! Overall I'm pleased but would like to do much more.
  2. '85 was the last year they came with back seats in the good ol' US of A.
  3. That's not a good way to get a board going. Is there a legal issue there? It's like the Seinfeld episode where there are three guys that are very similar to Jerry, George and Kramer but different and boring.
  4. Hey basher, most if not all '88's had F/I:burnout:
  5. You gotther fixed up straight away:headbang: looks good:brow:
  6. I would like to go but I can't get the darn car to run:banghead:
  7. I thought the trans cooler might be a option... With my turbo cars it seams like the turbo side of the engine runs hotter than the drivers side, I haven't tested this but it seems so. I considered using a oil cooler between the turbo and the engine to cool the hotter oil coming from the turbo, thought about doing the same with the water coming from the turbo. Volvo's have a nice oil cooler, might work. If your cooling system is working properly, would you need additional cooling? If you goal is to change the temp of the water or oil to test performance, you try both and see what happens. If your goal is to reduce the engine temps, then whether the heat is extracted from the oil or water wouldn't make that much diff would it?
  8. Nice car, yes I was going to ask about the seats, very nice. There are a couple out at the rallycross and they do pretty good, they are very well suited to the very tight courses they set up. There was a '88 out there that had a paint scheme very similar to my '87 RX, similar to yours but with white trim etc.
  9. Darn, I thought the pictures were going to be of the farm boys carrying out small cars on thier heads:-\
  10. Marck, the info I've heard is this: Cracks between the valves are OK if not too bad. Cracks between the exhaust ports are not OK. I would suggest taking a close look at the other head too. If your were not having problems you could probably reassemble and start looking for a head. I don't think there is any way to fix it but you might be able to keep it from getting worse by keeping your car cool, a hot engine could make it worse fast. I would be looking for a head though and not going on long trips. good luck.
  11. I have one but not familar with EA81, what should I look for?
  12. I agree with Junkie, looks like 2WD. Even easier, look on the left lower corner of the hatch, if it has a 4WD emblem your in biz, if there is no emblem, 2WD. This is not as reliable since the hatch could be changed or the emblem off but quicker. Looks like a nice car:burnout
  13. I was under the impression that '85/'86 was the early style and '87/later the newer style? '86/'87 could depend on early/late?
  14. I had a '23 Cadillac with a on board air compressor, not sure of the output.
  15. Hi Jamie, mail coming your way. Interested in any photo's of my white '87 RX coupe or any pictures you are going to throw away. Thanks, Mark.
  16. There's a 2004 WRX STI on ebay with 600 miles for $25,000, I think the book was around $35,000. There's about three days left on the auction and only 1 bid.
  17. Great picture Zap, can't wait to see the portfolio:D And the video:headbang:
  18. You can probably use any size exhaust you want from the turbo back without worrying about to little back pressure since the up pipe from the heads to the turbo has a small hole where it goes into the turbo and likewise the turbo has a small inlet hole too. There was a guy in Aussie, I think, that was making headers for these, with good luck. The WRX hood scope is difficult to mount on the EA82. It's wider than the hump on the hood. Subarutex is getting contact info for a company that makes a WRX style scoop that is narrow enough to fit there and looks really good. He has one on his 87 RX and it's stylish yet functional:headbang:
  19. Yep, a lot of guy's are doing gun barrels/actions around here and the Toyota/Samuri gang are all doing thier Burfield's (spl?) I guess the guy that started doing the Burfields is in Graham WA, he's well known for it. It would be nice if we could put a front stub in the rear, the fronts are solid as opposed to the hollow rear ones. I wonder if the 510 stubs are solid? Anybody know? I believe they are oart of the axle.
  20. SUBARU'S on the RUBICON I'M INSPIRED
  21. What part of the country are you in?
