  1. There it is! I posted regarding this car a while back , it came out of a dust cloud in Kane Springs canyon - nobody seemed to know anything about it. I just came back from Moab and saw it on a trailer downtown Thursday . Cool to know something about it. Great info and cool video. In fact we ran Hell's Rvenge that day - only not in our Subarus:grin:
  2. Yep , it's the alternator. Toyotas do the same thing - lots of idiot lights come on when the alt goes. If you can't find a cheapie , I have a spare ( off a 91 ea82 if that will work.
  3. ditto! and welcome to the board! do you know the history of the car? can you tell if it's been monkeyed with or well maintained?
  4. I can tell you from my short stint as an auto mechanic - I am no fan of mitsi. Everything on every car of every year of every model - ever so slightly different. Hook a wire in to anywhere but the battery = screwed up computer. By the way Westerbeke generators are mitsubishis - $12,000 for a marine genset with a bad cylinder right out of the box. Hyundais and some dodge s run their motors too. Remember the old 2.6s that always lost the main bearings at 150k? wow , somebody got me started...:-\
  5. coming along nicely. You can fit the tt motor in the lhd cars , huh?
  6. Have you tried the stock aluminum subaru centers , they popped into the center of ford courier wheels perfectly:)
  7. welcome aboard , I too started with an old brat , wish I still had it!
  8. I know you are closer to Ga , being in J-ville , but if you happen to be in Daytona beach ,there is an awesome u-pull it on Speedway blvd that always kept me stocked up on cheap soob parts. Man , do I miss that place. Now I have to drive 130 miles to get to a lousy yard!
  9. I think you need to mount it on the hood or maybe on a roof swivel for people that turn on hi beams the second before they pass by you!
  10. I had something similar on my first brat , it was the battery cable. Either a glaze inside the clamp or corrosion on the connection- can't remember which.
  11. My horrible hose from block to intake only leaked while you revved the motor. I took off the intake but I think I could have got it with long needle nose pliers. It was a spring clamp on that hidden end.
  12. Do some searches on teardrops. You can build your own for well under $1000 and some of them are light enough to tow behind motorcycles and Samurais! We built our own and had a great time doing it. The whole family pitched in. Do a search on tiny tears , benroys, anything antique . Stuff that could be pulled with old underpowered cars with drum brakes!
  13. sweet , hurry up and post more progress!
  14. Is this thing done now? I think I painted my home made lift the same shade of blue. why? I don't know...I did eventually link all the blocks with 1" square tube. The way you did your strut towers looks far superior to my monkey bar arrangement on my wagon. Did you get your new axles? I have 4 spares if needed.
  15. Don't you just love it when they fire right up! congrats!
  16. welcome to the board! Nice cars.
  17. Both my loyales had full power too , just no digidash or sunroof.
  18. Let me add some details. My family has been in Florida for over 150 years. The state is completely ruined. The cops and governments are some of the crookedest in the country. You can no longer wheel anywhere ( almost). It's ok to pave the forest for walmart but not ok to walk thru it with your kids. Big business have made licensing impossible if you are self employed. Billionaires block the view of all the coasts with mansions they don't even live in. Taxes are ridiculous to the extreme , utilities are high ,traffic is nightmarish. There is still some problems here but nothing even remotely like Florida. All the natives and a good share of the snowbirds are throwing in the towell and getting out of the sunshine state! I love the 4 corners area. Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado are all nearby. California and Nevada are not far either and fun to visit. Lots of movies and ads filmed here. Disney just finished another one a couple months ago. 4 wheeling is the best anywhere too!
  19. We moved from sw Florida to the Southwest. Now in Northern Az!
  20. Hey , try putting a fuse in the fuse holder under the hood on the driver's side strut tower. It should lock it into front wheel drive - drive around and see if it eliminates the problem. Process of elimination. How are the cv joints and universals?
  21. Thats it! I'm gonna put a 5th wheel hitch in one!
  22. I just had my memory jarred by a recent issue of HOt ROD magazine. Smokey Yunick died while I still lived in Florida (not far from his shop) .While they were having a big garage sale of performance parts , the newspaper mentioned they would not sell his 80mpg Ford aspire with a hot vapor engine. The new issue of hot rod has an article on a hot vapor fiero a guy put back together. It makes 1.8hp / ci and gets 60mpg. Basically it heats the intake charge until it is 450 deg f entering the cylinder. Actually too hot to cause engine destroying detonation. Anyone trying something like this or just heard about it?
