  1. Check for broken wires coming out of the alternator?
  2. This is pretty damn cool thank you whomever brought this post back to the top not sure how I missed it the first go around.
  3. While I don't mind you guys refering people to other forums on here I would appreciate it if you would try to answer the question here. A majority of the people at XT6/xt site are here as well. Thanks. Almost got to be the idle air control valve or the coolant temp sensor but I think IAC first. The early ones on the legacy and the xt6 were notoroius for weird behavior.
  4. There is an actual gasket for the water pump. Dont use silicone there.
  5. Work the other side of the wrench and you will not think its rediculous. I worked at a Subaru dealer for 2 years. Some of the jobs are right on the book but not all of them. On top of that every warranty ticket screws you because SOA doesnt want to pay reasonable amounts for labor which is even more rediculous. On top of that there is a learning curve for every job. You won't master a job to a point of doing one in half the book time for quite a while. Its like R&D at a company and it cost the tech money. ON top of that buy a box of snap on or similar tools that is as tall as you on a credit account. Pay interest, tax, and best of all buy a few spares of stuff that breaks even though its snap on. Its a tough gig to make money at. The dealer will likely pay the tech 1/5 of the amount they are charging at the most. The crook is the dealer itself not the techs. The job is hard on your body, the cars are often rusty, the equipment in the shop is often not maintaned properly, the guys at the service desk are not always competitent, and best of all the customers are mostly idiots. Spend a lot of time running around doing price quotes, waiting at the parts counter, and being tired and sore. I loved it but the dealership was a real joke and I am starting something on my own now.
  6. I would think about draining the gas tank every few years into a pail and then pouring it back down the neck thru a screened funnel to catch some of the junk. Its nice having a drainplug on the fuel tank.
  7. Ive got some ej trans inner cup axles with outer ea81 head axles if somebody wants them. Reman'd with about 5K miles on them about 2 years in the car. PM if interested. I would certainly trade them toward some Superlite wheels plus cash, parts, and anything else I have in the stable to nab those but I think the 5 lug conversion makes them worthless to me.
  8. No but I am helping do an EZ30 swap with factory wiring and its not terrible but the harness is HUGE.
  9. I am getting pretty close to being a vendor of the crossbred kits from Australia. Can't wait to put a kit on my car.
  10. Schedule appointment at the dealer they should fix it.
  11. No they are adjustable rocker arms. About the only thing I can think of is the Vehicle Speed Sensor is starting to fail. The one in the trans wouldn't necessarily throw a code.
  12. Yeah an entire convoy from Colorado will likely skip the show for rallyx instead, kindof sad.
  13. The gasket he is describing sounds like a front diff gasket not a headgasket.
  14. Cool. Are you going to part the brat out or fix the brat with the wagon or .... ?
  15. Damn its the same weekend as SCCA National Rallycross.
  16. I agree with this answer and add I think the cooling system conditioner leaves a brown residue as well.
  17. Nice job on the site. I like that it looks kindof like the old Ultimate Subaru site too. Amazing how many I bought from you, drove, parted out, got a piece or two off of, or just plain laughed at you for buying.
  18. I did a bunch of work with Tom (eyesore) on that car. Miss hanging out with him he is a good guy. PM me when you are ready to EJ it.
  19. Thanks for sharing. I love the old Saab (I think thats what that is)
  20. This weekend is the race at Miller Motorsports park in Utah dubbed the Rallycross National Challenge Utah. I like the Grassroots article (RIP Subiesport) has a picture of my Max's car in it as well. Almost all the pictures of the National Championship race of my car feature him driving it of course (That bum!). The photos he took of me driving it had more dust and cool effects but of course no footage of me in 6th place.
  21. For a VSS you may need to look into an old car that had a drive shaft mounted VSS for a cruise control unit (not a Subaru necessarily). Audiovox has an aftermarket cruise that works on most cars that might be a solution as well where you could add cruise to the car and solve the VSS issue at the same time. Roughly $100 last time I priced the kit for a Vanagon. http://www.miata.net/garage/MiataCCS100.htm
  22. I bought a brat that I used for parts that had the tank where you are saying and it just took away from it IMO.
  23. I think you need the up pipe, down pipe and the 02 sensor moves a little otherwise its been done. Search the 80's forum a little more if you haven't had luck finding exact info.
  24. My turbo brat still has crank windows. I converted my wagon back and forth meaning I put them all in, made it all work, then took it all out because the motors are rather slow and drove me more nuts than just having crank windows. Grab the harnesses out of the wagon I think you will find that theres a plug under the dash for each window motor harness to plug into already but if not you have a lot more work.
