Project Cheap gets a cheap paint job
Looks good! If it were me, I'd do a spray on Bedliner rather than paint. A single can goes a long way, It's tougher than paint and easy to fix. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

EA81 Motorcycle Madness
Just plain scary. Why?

EA81 Tranny question 5spd into 4spd D/R casing
Sko, Swap the tranny with a D/R 5 speed, if you must have that extra gear. Keep your one piece 4sp driveline as the 5 speed one has multiple parts. I think the 4sp has a lower gear ratio than the 5sp? What are you trying to accomplish? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

EA82 and EA82T: Whats the difference??
If all your information is correct, the EA82T should drop right in as that would have been the original engine in the car?

I possible low range fix?
Same here, on the real long UGLY climbs, I power out.

I possible low range fix?
I think the automatics would explode under some real Subaru type wheeling. I'd think gearing them down (if it could be done) would just aggrivate the problem of exploding the tranny.

pugs/no lift?
The answer is NO, Sell them to me!

Blue Bomber club car
If it were me, I'd keep the roof on and add some steel tubing to strenghten it. I think your never going to regret the ability to have a sun block and storage space. I put a roof in Summer even though it added weight, I thought the benefits out weighed the weight.

It's done! w00t!
Turned out better than I thought it would! A good solid skid plate and your there! Excellent work! Glenn

approach angle
What about just making a beefed up skid plate and keep everything else the way it is? An angle of approach is only so good without the gearing to back it up? My .02, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Blue Bomber club car
I saw a Lexus in Moab last weekend that someone had done much like your photo shop pic. It was way too flashy for my taste but it was an interesting idea. Your picture is missing roll bars? I'm sure they are in the plans, I just didn't see them in the picture? The Lexus had a roll cage...

My next project car!
So what are your evil plans? Inquiring minds want to know...

Moab this week?
Going, Going.... Trip report to follow.

subies fit on QUAD TRAILS!
I wouldn't take "Summer" anywhere it was not suppose to be. I don't want the fish cops to seize it. However if it's not restricted (to ATV-Cycles) I'm good to go! Nothing worse than trying to ride a Cycle in a two track trail.

Relocating Oil sending unit?
Any idea what the thread pitch and size of the adapter/old sensor are? Short of buying a gauge or spare oil sensor what do I ask for at the parts store or fitting store?

Need Help Asap!!!
My Hatch, "Summer" is a 1982 Carter Weber and my box is black. My FPCU controls the choke as I have found out the hard way... I can "make" a blue one work but I have to jump a wire to the choke. The blue and the black boxes are wired differently.

subies fit on QUAD TRAILS!
Wait a minute.......... I thought my Subie WAS an ATV

Relocating Oil sending unit?
This was touched upon in another thread, I'd like to move my sending unit out of harms way. If my skid plate moves enough, it could take out my oil sensor. I'd prefer a pre-emptive strike and move it while it's in good shape. Does it have to be mounted upright in its new location? Anyone have any specifics on what fittings & parts are needed to move it out of the area? (EA81) Better safe than sorry, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

What's Left To Mod For Offroad?
LSD does not compete with the welded rear end. Not even close. Removing an axle or more likely installing an axle before wheeling is not a big deal. Driving with a welded diff is not as bad as I thought it would be. I have noticed a little more wear on my back lugs since I decided to leave my axle in all the time. If you weld the diff right...you'll never break it. You may break other things but the spider gears can't break if they are one big ball of weld. I have yet to spin a front wheel with the rear welded--even uphill around a corner on loose gravel while flooring it. Too much traction! Dual Ebrakes will allow you to transfer power to the wheel that needs it. If your back is locked, it won't slip even with a rear wheel in the air. If you have dual Ebrakes, you'll be able to apply power to the front wheel that needs it. Disclaimer: (because of my traction I have never had to use the Ebrake system yet) Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--locked, Ebraked, tired--atv 84 GL Mad Max--still a virgin 01 Forester--yet another virgin

Need Help Asap!!!
If your car was running normally before it quit, the FPCU you have is the proper one. If it is not putting out the power like it should then replace it with a FPCU with the same numbers on the box. Subaru used a couple different carbs and the boxes are specific to the carbs on the car. I'd check your system and find out where the 12v is stopping and the 3v is starting.

ARGH! EA81 oilpump STUCK!
It has been my experience that they don't like to come out. I had to pry on my pump to get it out and broke that stupid mounting plate:mad: It will be stubborn but try to not touch that stupid plate as your prying..... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Need Help Asap!!!
The fuel pump control unit may be black or blue depending on the year. My 82 was black with a Mitsubshi logo on it, 84's are typically light blue. You must match the FPCU to the carb. They are not necessarily interchangeable. The relay for the fuel pump may be under your passenger seat? Check under the carpet for a small cylinder. Trace the wiring back and you should find it. I'd also test the wires going off the FPCU and see if it is sending 12v back to the pump?

trailer hitch on an ea81 hatch, how strong??
I made some industrial bumper reinforcing mounts. I bolted to my bumper and also bolted to the underside of the rear deck. I used a bolt plate inside the Hatch to mount the bolts on. I also ran the hitch through the rear valance to keep it close to the bumper. Never had a problem, Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Clutch Cable Snapped... Yikes!
My cable always seems to break while waiting to make a left hand turn in traffic. I've had to kill the car before to stop and restart with the starter motor to go.:-\ Not much fun but it works. Get use to it. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--currently on it's 4th cable since 1982 84 GL Mad Max--unknown cable count. 01 Forester--still on factory cable.
