Making the crossmember fit should be easy but what about the EA81 frame rails (narrow) and the EA82 valve covers/motor (wide). The question is EA82 engine width vs EA81 engine bay at the frame rails lifted height...? Go Sko, GO! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

How to remove an engine/tranny without a hoist
Sweet82 replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I though hoists were things that neighbors owned and stored in their garages and you just borrow them when you need them! -
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1386&cat=500&ppuser=584&sortby=d&sorttime=9999&way=asc No drill press needed. These babies were a little over a half an inch thick. Big drill, big bit, big center punch, big hammer and cutting oil!

Those are the exact tires I want! Except I need 4 in a 14" size:-\ I'm going to have to give them a call. So are you, iciclelover or is that your competiton?

Do we know if this is an original motor?
-
That looks almost (but not quite) like the Book Cliffs down between Price and Greenriver. Where were you in Southern Utah? Glenn
-
It was! And there was enough left to get the build date! So... Build Date was 01/82 Motor Number 931272 This is all original, as I bought the car when it was 6 months old.
-
I have the original 1982 motor in my 82 Hatch (now buggy), I'll pull the numbers and dates and post them. I hope I have enough chassis left to find the build date?

In a good rain or snow storm you may start to fill that area with water? Is that area really much higher than the stock air intake height? Seems to me most snorkels are about looks and rarely if ever get used for the intended purpose?

'86 Wagon in Utah up for grabs!
Sweet82 replied to Zeebadoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Come on Utah, step up! This is a salvagable Soobie. Tell us more about it? Does it start? Does it idle? How does the motor sound? When it over heated, what happend? Has it over heated since? Someone must need a project car! -
A all the way! It makes it look orignal. How did you get two that looked so much alike:rolleyes:

Their web site isn't notibly helpful.

I think until you do the "Plywood Test" you really can't get an accurate measurement. Too many deceptive camara angles and parts that are lower in the center of the vehicle.
-
Welcome to the board! I didn't know anybody cared about the "cloud cars". But then again, everybody else probably does not know anyone cares about old Subarus either? Subies are great cars, I think you'll enjoy owning your new wagon. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Has it got plates? I've seen many a car I though was abandoned until the license plates were run. Then things start to make sense? If it does, have some law enforcement buddy run them and see if that helps explain why it's there. Is there a pool of antifreeze, oil, tranny fluid under it? Could have broke down? The mystery deepens.....

Tell your wife it's an investment! You need to get one before they are all gone! Tell your son about it's potential. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2890&cat=614 "Just think Son, This could be you!"
