You could even bolt this plate on? An interior and exterior plate would work? The real problem will be avoiding body damage when you attach a cable or strap to the recovery point?

I've been running with the axle IN since last summer, and I have not noticed much binding at all. All I notice is I leave a lot of rubber on the concrete where ever I drive. (However my tires are much different than yours and I weigh less too...) I think you could "do" an axle in 15 minutes including putting the tools away? It will make a world of difference in your Subies ability to climb!

I found my rust under the basic floor mat area? Look under the car and see if you see metal........or carpet? ....I found carpet... The frame rails are strong on those cars. The rust in those pictures won't effect the structural integrity of the chassis.

Mystery Parts -- picture this, what is it?
Sweet82 replied to Hank Roberts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 82 had a part similar to that... It was a splash guard for the distributor that hooked up to the air cleaner box and the bottom of the distributor area. The Subaru mechanics removed it from my car early on and wrote winter use only on it? Could that be a EA82 counter part part? -
a little bird told me... This was a 1985 GL vin JF2AN53B8FE464540 ---wagon 4X4, 5 speed, two speed transfercase, EA82, Carburated, in a previous life....

I second that motion! Tires and gears are a tradeoff. You need to figure out which you want/need. You really can't have both cheaply. Weld the diff and look for a "bigger" tire. I think studs would be great on everything but slickrock? I looked at some used aggressive studded 13" over the weekend. Too bad I'm looking for 14".

Oh ya, Welcome to the board! I know your secrets!!! You must share them with the group or face sanctions! Tell the rest of the Subie Folks what your up to??? Better yet, post some pics of the original proto types and build process of the current monster! We can all learn from your input. Way cool, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--and I though this was cool... 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

I think you'll need the little computer unit to talk to the carb, other than that I don't think you'll need too much computing. How are you planning to get fuel to the motor? Do you know what car the motor came out of? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Be sure you take some before and after pics! We want to see the before ones now!

So.... They just tie you on up top and let you get the "hang" of it?

Ok, Here is another. This is from Mad Max Build Date 10/83 S/N 034828 It would appear this is also an original engine. It seems to fit in with numbers and production patterns we have. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Kinda reminds me of some of those remote control cars that they build with the huge bumpers, so the kids can't destroy them. Put one on the back just to balance it out? Ok, my vote is sell it and fab something more appropriate.

I also have a whinne in my top gears. I can turn the noise on and off by accelerating or decelerating. It is not noticeable when I accelerate however when I let off the gas I can hear it every time? It has done this ever since I've had the car (3 years). Little disappointed with Subaru on this one... The car only has 60k on it. Whine, whine, whine... Glenn 01 Forester--5 speed

Check your bulb, I have the same issue with my 2001 Forester. If I move my blub/plastic bulb water cover, I can get the bulb to light. I have not been able to get it to consistently stay on though? I can move it from the back side and get it to work for a bit then it goes out again? I removed the bulb and reinstalled it but I get the same results? Hummm........ Welcome to the board Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--630 watts shining forward! 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester--winky!

You can never own too many Subaru's. So what else besides a lift is on the horizon? -
I was trying to see if this small sample would pass the "does this make sence test". I was wondering if production quantities based off our limited numbers seemed consistant/reasonable. ----------------Months----Units-----Units/month---Units/day ---Units/hour 799337 - 07/81 931272 - 01/82--6--------131,935---21,989.17-----732.97------30.54 009899 - 04/82--4---------78,627---19,656.75-----655.23------27.30 300305 - 05/83-13--------290,406---22,338.90-----744.63------31.03 460419 - 01/84--8--------160,114---20,014.25-----667.14------27.80 809067 - 05/85-16--------348,648---21,790.50-----726.35------30.26 What I see is relatively consistent production numbers when our sample is broken down into months. This would make sence. When you break our numbers into production/day you begin to see the capacity of the factory. When you break it into an hourly production it you realize just how fast these motors roll off the line. If your really get board, you'll see they averaged around a half a motor a minute! Overall I think our small sample seems to be reasonable. For what that's worth, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Winner! Winner! We have a winner. One unmentioned, but key word would be "abandoned". This is an importent safety tip kids. Back to the topic, Drill them! It's easy and it works. It's the cheapest way to get bigger or different rims on your Soob. Do it, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--choo, choo! 84 GL Mad Max 01 Forester

Wow, talk about an old post.... Whatever happend to these? Do you still have any left? Thanks, Glenn -
A railroad service cart/speeder! These rims have a top shuuuuu! secret use! I have to use special lug nuts to reach deep enough to find my studs because the rims are so thick to get the proper offset. The drilling process was simple. Spent way more time checking and double checking than drilling.
