Disconnecting 1997 Legacy alarm
Sweet82 replied to Shadetree's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe newer alarms have the ignition cut out. My 01 has it. This too can be by-passed by jumping two wires. Not sure about the 97? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Custom fabricated wheels....?!?
I had custom rims made for the buggy They weren't that pricey (more than a junkyard and less than most new Aluminum) Here's some pics... http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/PIC4 Or.... This guy used the core out of his existing 13" and placed them in the center of a 15", aligned and welded. Here is the article. http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/clients_gallery.htm Further down the page you'll see folks running "dualies"... junkyard/Rim Question
Can you undo the axle nut and remove the drum/disk with the wheel? Drill the stud out? Kinda hard at a JY Torch the axle, bring the whole mess home and beat on it. Weld something to the locking nut? Don't listen to me! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Disconnecting 1997 Legacy alarm
Sweet82 replied to Shadetree's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have an 01 Forester and the alarm is a plug-and-play box. If yours is like mine, it's a matter of unpluging the box and it's gone! I just installed my alarm and have had no problems with it. But it has never gone off either? ---so that's never been a problem. I wonder if you adjusted your sensitivity if you would be happier? Whatever, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--key hidden in ignition 01 Forester--alarmed!

Compass, Altimiter, Thermometer Gauge Pack?
Anyone have one of these in there car? I put the Gauge Pack in the Forester and I'm disappointed with the thermometer readings. Are your thermometer readings REAL SLOW to react to temp changes? (by the way, Altimeter seems overly sensitive) I can drive all the way to work with the thermometer heat sensor in side the car with the heater on (extra crispy setting) and it still never changes I've had it in about a week and I've only seen it change two degrees while I'm driving? However when I leave the car over night the sensor will eventually sence the temp and display the correct temp when I start the car in the morning. The problem is it will display that temp for most of the next day. It wil have changed a little by the time I'm ready to drive home. Why is this so slow to react to temp changes? I've checked to make sure it's pluged in properly, if it's not it displays an error message. Confused Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--always the same temp inside as outside 01 Forester--displays the same temp inside as outside ****I'm not talking about the built in one in the inst cluster**** that works fine!

Anyone here from New Zealand?
It usually takes folks a while to read these threads and reply. Be patient and they will appear. Or, Click on the "Members" button on the bar above and do a search for "nz". When I did it, I found 4 New Zealanders on the first page. I'd bet there is a bunch of enthusiasts down there. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

offroad subaru buggy/crawler
Build it! The beauty of a Tube Frame is you can endlessly change it and it doesn't matter. However, if I was going to make a buggy specifically designed for Rock Crawling.....I'd start with something else .....Toyota or Samurai would be my choices?--Simply because of the proven track record and product support needed for making a true crawler exist for those platforms and Subarus have nothing. I have a friend who built a Sammy crawler for $2,500. It still needed a little more gearing at that price though. (Note: he is an owner of the crawler shop that built it and probably had access to freebies that brought that cost way down) Having said all that there is One UROC Competition Crawler powered by a Subaru Motor and I believe it's N2O injected. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--poor crawl ratio 01 Forester--no crawl ratio

Outback - Busted Skid Plate (AGAIN)!
Sweet82 replied to vtphoto's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt looks to me like you have beat the #*!! out of your skid plate. It appears to be folded back and bent. I'd get an alumimum skid plate and take it easier off-road. Any time anything but your tires touch the ground.....it's bad! Have you thought about lifting this a bit higher to keep it out of harms way??? I go slow and walk around problem areas... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer....mother of all skid plates installed. 01 Forester...."skid plate" removed.

ea81 heat ?
Is your radiator fan kicking on? Is your coolant low? Is there a sale on thermostats? Got to be a thermo. If not it's a real cheap way to start trouble shooting the problem. My Trooper gives cooler air (driving) when the coolant gets low.... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester Subaru Heaters Rock!

starting / keyless entry problems 99 legacy
Sweet82 replied to dDigitalPimp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would have suspected the battery was low and cranking the engine, caused the alarm to loose power then reset it's self and go off because you were in the car. Good luck with the starter. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Security System Extended Range
Sweet82 replied to phoenix_one's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have an 01 Forester, and I have contests with the kids on how far we can be away from it and still get it to unlock/honk. Our Forester will work several hundred feet away. Enough that the people next to it have no idea why it just honked? Are your batteries good? You should have better range? Towing snowmobile trailer?
Sweet82 replied to DaveTV's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have a Draw tight hitch but, I'd think because of it's shape it would only be good for this model. I'd think you would have the same basic problem. A dealer could probably tell you what years your hitch would also work on. I'd bet it's would only work on the same body style of car as what you have it on. A hitch dealer is the answer. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
