  1. Lots of folks compete in UROC with "stock" Toyota axles. They are solid! My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  2. I think you'd have more travel with the leafs on a solid axle. Our indpendent set up is limited. Just add leafs to the torsen bar and call it done! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  3. Looks Great, Heres a link.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8086
  4. There might be some "ecomomies of scale" or in other words if a whole bunch of people wanted to go in on a batch of them...It may be cheaper to send a bunch of them than sending them one at a time...? Just a thought... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  5. I cut the hanger bracket off my old muffler and welded it on the new muffler. Fits like a glove Glenn 82 SubaruHummer, cherry bomb muffler (non-glass pack) 01 Forester, factory exhaust :-\
  6. I don't remember being able to do that on my EA81? But then again, I don't remember a lot of things.... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  7. Now you have my attention... So how much did it cost to convert the carb to injection? My Buggy runs sweet and I'd hate to mess with it but having the ablility to re-start the engine on unimaginable angles would be a real plus ....Humm$$$$.... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer---been there done that on steep stuff with a carb. 01 Forester---geared such that it wouldn't matter it it was carbed
  8. Seems to me changing the driveline length is a simple enough fix for a D/R. I paid $70 to get mine done... The question is can you get a good one from S.A. because the return policy is tough! And then there is that issue of Customs and of course COST! If it worked out it would be sweet though? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer---D/R 01 Forester---D/R less
  9. I agree with Junkie, I think gearing would be a real issue with that setup. The fact the Subaru does not offer the D/R tranny in the US for the Forester is a huge limitation for modifying the Forester for any real off-road performance. I'd think if you put the tires your talking about....you'd toast the clutch more or less instantly. If it didn't toast instantly then it would the first time you try to climb any hill. Just for a test try climbing with your current gears and tires. ---My bet is your disappointed with the current setup too My thoughts are unless you have geared it, keep it stock and on mild off-roads. The Forester is basically a snow car... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer---highly modified off-road vehicle 01 Forester---not an off-road vehicle
  10. I'd go with the HH issue too, it's the only thing that makes sence. What else would be affected back there? With the "Dual Diagonal" braking system that might be the problem? I'd dis-engauge the whole HH thing and see if it starts behaving again? I hate the HH clutch, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  11. Todd, Try posting your Subaru needs in the market place forum and see what kind of response you get? I'd bet someone out there has something and probably close to you. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  12. Mike, Welcome, your in the right place! There are tons of folks from Colorado here on the board. Seems like more all the time Subaru motors are easily swapped. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  13. Where in Utah is it Lots of parts I could use I'll get you a list of parts your missing
  14. Looks great! How many windows on that VW? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  15. Personal opinion....... I think you can put a heck of a lot of miles on a new car without it feeling it. You try to run an older car at the same pace 30k/yr and I think you'll get some problems. New cars can just handle high mileage better.... For what that's worth? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 120,000 01 Forester 40,000
  16. Make sure they match up the threads!!! I was sold one by the parts guy...and when I got it all home and bent........... IT WASN'T METRIC! My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  17. I've got my diff welded and I've never put my axle in yet The only things I have noticed is you will drift to the side missing the axle in a hard climb. And my diff hanger is more twisted than it used to be I ended up reinforcing the diff hanger.......... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  18. You have got to go swim with the turtles near Kona. Coolest thing I have ever done! If you can get down to Captain Hook/Cook (not far away) you may be able to swim with some dolphins. Aloha! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  19. I'd be up for something some time.... I'm usually down there that time of year anyway. I'd like to get a few homies together to do a trip schedule for the various levels of vehicles/modifications. It has been my experience that you can do 1 - 2 trails per day tops. I have a dirtbag motel in mind too. Usually around $30/night Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  20. I use a coat hanger for wire (bailing wire) and what ever else it may be needed for. I also carry a small saw. It can come in handy in so many ways I also carry my old parts from my last tune up....belts, hoses, cap, wires, plugs they take up no space and were in working condition when they were used last. Food for thought.... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester (pepper spray is in all my cars)
  21. My tranny whinnes in the top gears (and no I don't lean on the gear shift knob or rest my hand on it while driving). I've just given up and assumed it was a quirk of the car and learned to live with it. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--pops out of 1st when lugging it. 01 Forester--whinny tranny
  22. I grew up in Billings and have wanted to go back and take a peak to see what has changed. How long does it take to get from SLC to Billings? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  23. Looks Great! Love the Pics! I thought those pics were Poison Spider! I have long suspected PS was doable, my only concern was the first real obstacle. Other than that PS is great scenery and a nice challenge. I smell roast clutch? There are a handful of other trails that I think are Subable and most are 3.5 to 4+ trails. There is a Moab trip in the works. It has been kept off the radar screen because we wanted qualified/capable vehicles on the trails to make a good showing for Subaru. Having said that, those problems could be avoided, if you match the particular trail to the vehicle, doing so, you should have no problems. Moab 2005! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  24. Great Video! That poor Hatch We don't see mud like that around these parts Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  25. Wow and I was bitchin about +20 in SLC Over the years my wife has always felt safest in our old Subie on bad weather days. The vehicles somehow inspire confidence and security in those who drive them Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester I'c class both as Snowmobiles
