Check this out... http://www.tomcar.com/Adventurer_features.html They run on Subaru engines I was comparing the specks to my Rhino and I'm within 2" (length width height) and #8 per factory specks Looks cool as heck! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I have one of those HF #2000 winches on the back of the Buggy, works great. http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/MVC_170F The base mounting plate on the HF winch is 5-1/2'' L x 4-1/8'' W. It uses 4 bolts. Pretty easy to mount or make a mount for. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

contemplating subaru engine drop into samurai
Sweet82 replied to dptyrob's topic in Subaru Transplants
Those little Sami engines seem to do ok. Even competition rock crawlers have the stock 1300's. I wouldn't call them powerful but when geared properly they seem to go where you point them Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
I don't think the actual lift blocks will take that long to install but... the little things are what will take the time.... The time it takes is probably a function of how much time per day you can contribute to it and how good you are at it. Frozen and rusted bolts may give you some unforseen greef... Good luck, Glenn

It's 12 degrees down here right now. I hope you have some place warm to mess with the wagon. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Maybe I'm wrong... But, I change my oil when it's dirty I don't change it because the oil companys tell me I need to. Oil takes quite a bit to have a viscosity breakdown. If you have reached that point you have much more serious problems to worry about. I have been known to change my oil once a year in my old (still running strong after 22 years) Subie. Of course I may have only driven 5k during that year... I end up adding a quart every now and then to top it off and delute the dirt I think the oil change recommendations are promoted by the oil companys and manufactures for their own reasons. Why change clean oil? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Engine and Trans Replacment Help
Sweet82 replied to Bro's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When I did it, I pulled the car not the motor It took me 20 minutes to pull the motor, tranny, wheels tires, struts...out of my old EA-81. I left everything as a unit and removed the car! I simply cut the front of the car off and pulled the motor out the front When I installed it in the buggy I just placed the motor etc... on blocks and set the car down on top of the motor assembly. It was quick and easy for me? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Lookin Good It has a nice finished look to it! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

How much rust before a Subaru is unsafe?
Sweet82 replied to sidekickin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had no rust on the body but major rust on the underside, holes in my floorboards 8" each side That is what made me deem the car unsafe and change it into the SubaruHummer! However having dismatled the car and cut up the frame... I was impressed how solid the frame rails were even though the rockers, kick panels and floorboard were shot. Knowing what I know now, I'd modify a rusty Sub for off-road purposes with out a question. ....For a daily driver hard to say... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -

Rebuild or salvage my Brat?
Sweet82 replied to NathanialBaker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about a Junkyard engine, an old EA-81, 82 can't cost that much? Unless it was real sweet I doubt you could sell it for Big $$$. Old Subies are kind of a niche market. My two cents! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Another long shot, Check your lug nuts!

Sko, I'd like to place an order for a free EA-81 in Utah with real good parts and lots of coins in between the seats Thanks for all your help! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

And how did the Harbor Freight Tube bender work? I was looking at one of those too, when I was building the Buggy. Inquiring minds want to know! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

My old GL had them in the grill in front of the windshield. We used to turn them sideways and plug one off. The end result would be you have a squirter that will shoot from the fast lane over the middle lane and get the car in the slow lane wet Ok, it's juvenile but I was in high school back then so it was OK!

I was looking at putting a second radiator fan in the buggy and I noticed that if I used a second "stock" fan, I'd be hitting the front crank pulley with the fan housing Is there room for a second fan in a stock EA-81 setup? or must you move something or mount it differently than a stock type mount? I thought I mounted the radiator the same distance away from the motor in the Buggy as the stock Hatch setup? Any dual fan folks run into this? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--wants dual fans 01 Forester--has dual fans

Why do people hate Loyales?
Sweet82 replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I prefer the older EA81's... Not that GL or DL is a good name but...Loyale? It just sounds cheezy!!! If they would have kept the D/R I'd probably think more of them and just ignored the name. I never cared for the early 90's styling that Subaru came out with... Quack, Quack, Quack... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester--<Stupid name and no D/R! And kinda queer looking too? -
Whoops! LSD is a Limited Slip Differential. They are geared at 3.7. The D/R trannys are geared at a 3.9 so you have to change the gears to make the 3.9 LSD for the D/R tranny. Some say the LSD is good some say the welded diff is the way to go:confused: The diff you choose would probably depend on your intended use. Forgot to put that in the last post

Welcome to the Board. Your in the right place! "Rooinator", (Jason) had a 1600 with big tires and a lift. He did ok in that configuration--although his year has the D/R tranny--and that was probably the only thing that saved him... http://www.angelfire.com/80s/rooinater/index.html Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
