  1. A hydraulic gear pump (Basically the front pump in a auto tranny) will make an awfulll noise if the fluid is low or aerated. Fix the leak, top off, then let us know what is happening. nipper
  2. Air Filter Fuel Filter and NGK spark plugs from any cource. PCV valve and spark plug wires from subaru, personally on the wires chnage them once every 100K or if you get a misfire code. Lesser brands use cheap silicon and they will break down and leak voltage. Brake fluid is easy, remove the old fluid from the master cylinder with a turkey baster. Add new fluid and bleed normally, starting with the closest wheel first first i think. With ABS its the reverse of starting with the farthest. Closest in hydraulic lines terms is the right front. nipper
  3. That would be like crossing the gates of Valhala, we could never come back.... nipper
  4. well no locking the front end, that can cause nightmare handling issues. thats just for the originator of the thread. Which sooby are we concerned with? Does it have rear parking brakes? You can use those cables for the same things like VW's used to do. nipper
  5. Why do i sense a math word problem coming on..... http://www.straightdope.com/columns/000218.html nipper
  6. its the dog bone thing on the right side of the engine by the firewall. Someone will have a pic. nipper
  7. Just hill holders dont work well when they oriented in reverse. i can tell you personally they get a bit confused, Try backing down a hill with one in reverse after a stop, its not a smooth transition. nipper
  8. There may also be a tranny ground strap. When in doubt add a ground. nipper
  9. There are simpler ways using line locks. nipper

  11. That wont do it, your better off chaining the fluid, it usually helps alot. nipper
  12. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685079 HOW DO WE NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?!?! we are slipping if it does exist i tired looking on google earth, but its is all fuzzy up there. nipper
  13. Now i want everyone to sit and breath, no mad rush to this site... BUT i posted the commercial on the outback list and got this response "There really is a place called Subaru Heaven...it's on U.S. 12 (I believe) heading toward Whitewater, WI. I have been past it a few times. Fields full of 80s Subarus." Now remeber no pushing or shoving.... nipper
  14. That forester wasnt in bad shape really. nipper
  15. Yup your due for an O2 sensor. Might as well get a pcv valve too, bet that hasnt been changed. nipper
  16. heheh yup i have a camera bag and a room full if computer equipemnt to support that nipper
  17. Like i have said before, and i get yelled at for... ANY aluminum engine can blow a HG as it ages period. Even cast Iron engines blew HG's as they got older. It's unreasonable to expect what is the highest stressed part of an engine to last forever. If it does, thats great, if it doesnt, it happens. Remeber we tend to keep subarus a lot longer then people keep other cars, and usually by the time other cars blow HG's they arent worth fixing (since everything has fallen off them by then). A car is more then just the engine. nipper
  18. Its not an expensive code unless you blindly listen to a mechanic. How many miles on the car. This is classic front O2 sensor being tired, or finally dying. Even IF it is a cat, this still has to be replaced, so replace it first with an OE sensor and see what happens. And yes that rattling may still be a heat shield, easy to fix. It may be a cat too, but i doubt it. When the car is cold hit the cat with your hand. If it doesnt rattle its fine. nipper
