  1. Empty fuse holder is good. Thats the FWD fuse. You use a spare fuse in that slot when you have to run on the spare tire. The fact that its not there means the AWD is working. The bill states that the AWD unit was at the least serviced, if not rebuilt (If the bill is around 800.00 it was rebuilt). Make sure the tires all match Next do figure 8's with the car. The car should make this manuver with no throttle or very little htrottle applied. If it does this in a smooth motion then its fine. Only other thing is to see when the timing belt was changed, otherwise it sounds fine. nipper
  2. Just out of curisosity, when exactly this start happening. When was the timing belt last changed. Check the knock sensor. Change the fuel filter, and invest in a tank of preimum name brand fuel and tell us what happens. nipper
  3. Well he didnt do something right, as i have never heard of anyone getting it fixed and it not working. He did something wrong, and you need to have him fix it (since he admited he goofed up) or get another opinion. nipper

  7. Not everything can be fixed by a magical can, especially if you like the rest of your transmission. There has been some succes with a conditioner when people have torquebind, which you dont have. You have AWD clutches that are shot and need to be replaced. nipper
  8. Well they arent popular here for two reasons. GM did a really good job on ruinung the reputation of diesels. Secondly our emission standards wont let them in, but thats about to change. nipper
  9. Actually a vaccum gauge is one of the best tools to find engine problems that a compression test wont pick up, and its really easy to read. I dont see how its easy to misread. http://www.fordf150.net/howto/diagnoseengine.php nipper
  10. Too much oil ins a subaru can be catastrophic. I do agree its tough to read the dipstick on a subaru, so triple check. Unlike a V engine or a std engine, the pistons are on their sides. Over filling (could) get the oil up into the cylinders behind pistons. You wont have hydraulic lock (that would be too easy, as the starter motor cant bend anything). What can happen is the oil foams and gets airated. The oil pump cant pump air. Oil with bubbles in the oil can't lubricate. The carankshaft jounrals can throw the oil around and airate it. nipper
  11. well if your talking about what i think your talking about.. The tabs that are at irregular spaces apart form each other? Very important. The car wont run without them. They make the signal for the crankshaft position sensor. Otherwise i am not sure what you mean. nipper

  14. They are loosing their quirckyness, which is what drew people to them. They need another small car, a little more zip, and stop falling into the "camry" cookie cutter cold. nipper
  15. When the cat pipes have been welded in the past, they dont seem to hold up. But maybe you can go to a junkyard and cut off the flange, then match it up to yours and weld it on. nipper
  16. I'm very happy the other half is doing well. Been there done that with the broken sternum. It's amazing how tough cars really are. Remind me to tell you my 1979 civic crash story some time (hence the broken sternum). It involves a car witha nun as a drivers ed instructer ..... nipper
  17. I know thats why i pointed it out. Hayens is a good book, dont know why you dislike it so much, but each thier own. I am still trying to find a FSM for blu with no luck, and i hate those cd versions. nipper
  18. hrmmm are the intakes differnt on the two engines? Can the car be starving for air in a specific rpm band? Why did you swap intakes? nipper
  19. You can reuse the tensioner, but why take the risk (see other p[osts on tensioners going bad). When i had it done on my legacy it was 600 - 650.00 ( i also needed a harmonic balancer) . That was basically replacing everything under the front covers, money well spent for another 106,000 miles of peace and quiet.   21. My front sensor is 6-8 months old, so i wont change that. My front threw the ocassional code, then got worse with time, so i included it as part of a major tune-up. nipper
