  1. 97 obw Pioneer Premire 60 watt per channel stereo. i need speakers (not to mention i was pissed to find a dead channel). Max i want to spend is 100.00 per pair. i listen to everything amd dont beleive the bass is a vibration test for the fastners on the car. i have the premium tweeters. any suggestions. nipper
  2. i dont know if it would have a catastrophic failure, but i would imagine if it would self destruct, possibly ruin the clutch fork, and all those little metal peices in the bell housing. May also damage the "fingers" on the pressure plate. And of course you know these things never fail at a good time. nipper
  3. i dont think that started untill 2000 model year, his is a 96. nipper
  4. from what i have heard, this is a pricey part (for what the part is), and hard to find in junkyards, for this very reason. This seems to be a common problem in snow belts. Someone will chime in on details. nipper
  5. It sounds like the belts are worn out. Dont by the belts from the books in the store, i did that and the belts were too big. i was not happy as i am a one car household. If you have one car, it may be easier to get them from subaru just to get the right size the first time. Two car houshold take them with you and make sure that the new ones are a hair smaller then the old ones. Better yet if you can still see the belt numbers. nipper
  6. there are no performance chips for non turbo subarus. All the so called chips are just ways to make sensors lie to the ecu, and can burn up your catalytic converter or worse. nipper
  7. thats been a recent change, i think thats acceptable if the tires are rotated per mfg recomendation. Rotation is falling under the catagory of engine oil, no two peoples opinions are the same. One thing to beware of is if you have directional tires, the tire shop may do a cross roatation and damage the tires (happened to me). Tire rotation is given to the new kid to do. nipper
  8. we LOVE Jamie It's great that she is on the board. Backorders are more common as auto mfg's cut down on inventory of parts on hand. Subaru dealers can be small, so they may not have a lot of parts on hand. nipper
  9. Radial tires have a memory. The know which direction they have been spinning, including the non directional ones. By doing a cross rotation you canpossibly cause the belts to seperate. This is not a subaru/awd thing, this is a Radial tire thing. nipper
  10. on the 5 speed there is nothing you can do at all. You dont have a clutch pack, you dont have solenoid. You must keep an eye on your tires and never drive on a flat. Once TB shows up on a manual, its over. The 5 speed Viscous coupling is sealed, so there is nothing to service. nipper
  11. Run very far and very fast away from ebay for internal engine parts. Ask your self if you want to do this job twice, if you do use the ebay stuff, if not use subaru. EBay is good , the parts may be ok, but you dont really know where the parts are coming from, and no one really stands behind them. nipper
  12. I vote for a throwout bearing. The noise may not go away completly, but as heard from the driverseat it does. This is a typical throwout bearing complaint. When was the last time the clutch was replaced. nipper
  13. After time any metal will weaken and break with time after being "worked". Springs brake, frames break etc etc. Do they break, yes, is it common, not really. There does seem to a batch of questionable ones out there (99 maybe not sure). All it takes is one little imperfection in the steel, time, and road salt. nipper
  14. well it doesnt suck, it pushes. Impeller type pumps do not have an suction, its only flow (and high flow) and some pressure. The perceived pressure is created by the flow of the mass of water. If there was real pressure, you would be blowing things up all over the place. Impeller pumps need to be submurges in order to move liquids (ie a block full of coolant). nipper
  15. Could be a bad vapor control system with a stuck purge valve, could be a rotted fill pipe. nipper
  16. Thats just normal ping, some engines do it some dont. You can try a cooler plug, check the knock sensor, egr valve, but sometimes ping is just ping. nipper
  17. flush to try to cure it, along with the usual tires stuff (inflation, all the same size etc). http://legacycentral.org/library/torquebind.htm Also these units do wear with age, especially if they have never had regular flushings. If it is a lite TB flushing should fix it, but the higher the mileage, there is a chance of it coming back again then its repair time. My flush lasted a year, then the duty c failed and it was all over. nipper
  18. well they fixed the design flaw. i dont really trust small mfg's date lines, as they can get blurred. i would go for a 1998 to be safe. nipper
  19. yes, thats why alot of us feel we dont need no stinkin daytime running lights, we've had them for over 20 years nipper
  20. sometimes too low a mileage is a bad thing. Subarus like to be driven, at 80,000 miles your going to need to do the entire front of the engine as soon as you start driving it like a normal person. You dont say if they are auto or manual. Sometimes low mileage cars are not that well maintained as people go by the mileage and not the calander. nipper
  21. Generally thats not a good thing either, sounds like carbon build up (lots of it) maybe on one cylinder, but if it runs without pinging, enjoy nipper
  22. You now know you have to tell us how this works out, as that thgere a lot of us that care about you. nipper
  23. its called a pressure plate universaly. You have a pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing and a pilot bearing. Due to the amount of work involved you replace all parts at the same time. Also a glazed clutch disc with a new pressure plate means you have to do everything all over again. Its a hell of a gamble, i would not recomned it to anyone, its like replacing one brake pad. nipper
  24. You need to see the low side and high side reading. That gauge that cames with the can has almost no accuratcy as far as gauges go (trust me i used to calibrate gauges for a defense contractor. Taking only the low side is like taking ony half your blood pressure, and thats the bottom number. nipper
