What I'd Like to know is How well it stuck to the ground with Nitro Kicked in....??? I'd imagine it got a Bit Spooky...... But I'd Volunteer to try it..... Bummer it Burned up....

Ok, If you kick the Tire, You can make the Noise....??? I would Look at your Bottom Strut Bolt.....Holds the Strut to the swing arm.....Sounds to me as if the Bushing in the Strut is Done, and Bolt and housing are metal on metal....??? Very typical if you shove a Lift onto old struts....You change the angle they rest and Work at, and things Give out..... Let us know.....John

Is your Subaru dealer competent?
mudrat79 replied to PictureChasers's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Pic Chaser.... Is your Ride Carbed or Injected....??? In America I did a Check....There are several Short Blocks Available for 90-94 Injected models, Also is yours a stick or auto...??? That May make a Huge difference....I asked for a stick Model And there were several of those available..... Kinda Sounds to me as if the Dealer your Working with doesn't want the Work/Job..... Another route you might think of Going, is Get a Good Long Block through a Junk yard, and have that installed.... Also , The Gaskets are all still available....I did a complete Re-Seal to an 88 Justy last Summer, and Everything was a day out ......Meaning Portland Warehouse Had them...... Good Luck, John -
Hey Mark....If you are True And Blue about getting into this type of Rally, I'd Be all for Co-Pilot....I also Happen to know a Guy who does Pretty Nice Bender Work..... As well as Knows How To Mod things ..... Do you know what the Rules/Regs Are For say a 2.0 or 2.2 Turbo'd 87 GL-10 Sedan with XT-6 Running gear, and a Hi-Lo tranny...... I have access to a 2.0 short Block with 20,000 on the clock , as well as a GL-10 SEDAN shell in good Shape ....with the XT-6 running gear, it will handle very well, and Accept alot of the new gen suspension stuff....Think Outside the Box..... This car set up right with 2 good Drivers Would Kill I think..... Gutted, Super Light, yet very agile.....and Gobbs of Power to spare...... Last time I checked into this Typy Rally though, It was going to cost about 3500.00 just to get into the First race...This Involved getting SCCA membership, setting the Car up to be SCCA certified, and then entry fee's for the race..... Give me a Call if you are Serious..... John.....

Corky, I registered.....How do I pay thru Paypal...? What is step 2...? I clicked Submit, and It never went to paypal....? Let me know, John -
In Reality ...the Hi-Lo tranny is Identical to the AWD 5 speed inside, with the acception of the AWD having the Clutch pack in the rear , and The Hi-Lo having gears... As Far as cost on making a Forester mate to the Older tranny.. E-mail me or Call me, and I'll walk you through the List of things Needed.... I just did it to Forester Rangers 98 Forester... Also, I've had the hi-Lo up against a 2.2 , the 2.5 , an XT-6 2.7 , as well as I know one thats Bolted to a buick 2.8 liter motor, and they are all holding up just fine.....and all of these Rides are running at minimum 28" Rubber , and up to 35" rubber..... So the trans is not Weak...... Later, John

The Main/Major Disfunction of a Body Lift in the newer Rides is It does Not allow For Larger Diameter tires..... I can build you a 2" suspension Lift, Or if you are patient, I am working right now On a 4" Suspension Lift, and Combo 2" Body Lift that will keep Axle geometry stock....So no blowing axles on a regular basis..... This Kit will hopefully be available in 6-8 weeks....We had to OutSource some things, and are waiting on those parts to Come in.....We Will be Test Fitting it to Rallitek's Baja .... I'll post something as soon as We know it's operable..... Later, John

You broke the Cross Member in Half, or tore the tranny Rubber Mounts Up.....??? Call me again Please.... Later, John

I have several Good Pics of the work we did here, and I can write you a Cost estimate/reciept for all the work I did to it at My place......Pics will also let them see how nice it was Before the wreck..... I must say I'm Most Impressed with how well the RollBar came through.....? No bends, just scuffs..... Call me when you feel good and Solid again..... John.... P.S. from the pics , it looks like a bit of touch up paint, and you can install the Bumpers/Rollbar into your Next ride.....

What He is trying to say is he is Too Impatient To take his Turn to get this One Done.....I just had his Forester In the Shop for 2 Weeks Doing the Hi-Lo LSD swap.....Did that Job for MEGA CHEAP....As a Learning project......Lost My A** on it in Fact.... But I'm not crying over it cause I can say I built and Installed The First......AWD to 2WD/Hi-Lo 4x4 Conversion with LSD front and Rear in the U.S. Now He wants Me to do The SVX next, but I have to get Bakerman's Brat Done Next....Before I tear into the SVX..... Have Patience Shane.....Go try and Break the Forester ..... Your Friendly Neighborhood Mechanic with only One Brain and 2 Hands...... Guess I need to Clone Myself......???? John.

Looking for 4x4 subaru -recommendations???
mudrat79 replied to bk2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depending on your Likes in Body styly..... My 2 favorites are 85-92 Turbo or SPFI with 5 speed Hi-Lo swapped in, 3 inch Lift, and 27" tires......Tow package with Trailer brake switch, and or Roof-Rack...... Second and Better Choice... First Gen Legacy, Lifted 3" or Better, With 5 speed Hi-lo and LSD swapped in So you get the 2.2 motor, MPFI , Hi-Lo tranny for pull and Hills, disc brakes Stock, and A bit more cargo Room....plus a Tow Package as well....??? This would Be a Camping/Fishing Dream machine... later, John P.S. I know a Guy who can make dreams Happen..... -
I sent you an E-mail... are you in Oregon for School....???

My Set Up is a Black Faced Galaxy Wide Band, with Frequ. counter, turned down to 10w. so I can run a Foot warmer( kicker/Linear)....at between 150-550 watts....I run this into either my 102 Whip, or my 5/8 wave Ugly stick......depending on the country I'm running in....It lets me Talk all over the World .... For anyone Interested , I build a Nice C.B. Mount For EA-81 Cars...that ties into the Roof .....It uses the Mirror, Inner Sun visor, and Over head Light mounts.....Very strong, and You can hang any C.B. Off of it....??? cost is 35.00 plus shipping..... I'll have a pic of it soon on my New Site..... Later, John

Mudrat Design and Fab has again made the Improbable Possible...... After Tearing the Hi-Lo 5 speed tranny apart several times, We Now Have a 5 speed Hi Range - LOW Range 98 Forester with LSD in the Front as well as an LSD in the Rear .... I took it out and Made sure things were working proper in both Diff 's..... Forester Didn't Torque steer like I figured It would, But if you dump the Clutch it will Lock up both tires and Side step a bit.....in 2WD mode..... I took it to my favorite test hill , a 60-70% incline off an overpass....In LOW RANGE....it walked right to the top with no effort.......ForesterRanger, the owner of this Car figured out that in low range it has a 22:1 crawl ratio with the 27 " Coopers ....Not Too shabby Who's Ready to do it to an Outback.....???.... I'll be listing the Tranny Conversion over in the Market place as a kit with the adapter Plate.....And for all you out there Wanting an LSD in the front Diff on your 4 speed or 5 speed Hi-Lo in stock Ea-81 or EA-82 Applications, I can do that too...... Talk soon, John
-
The Kit we Are looking to do will utilize Aftermarket Springs.... Sorry Perry.... I can't give out the secret yet, but suffice to say, that if your willing to trim a bit of fender you can get much Larger Meats on anything you stick this Kit into..... Later, John

With 13" tires on a RWD Roo, you should not ever have any problems.....There have been a few thrashed Trannies due to the rear being engaged and Wheel spin coming to an abrupt halt in a Hard traction situation...... I drove a 4 speed Hi-Lo in RWD half way across America due to a failed front axle once....No issues with it ever..... Have fun, John P.S. a wagon or hatch in RWD on snow or ICE is a BLAST......
-
No, But I'd Love to build A kit for One..... I am getting ready to do a 5 speed swap into one, so I'll be under The Car to see what is needed.... I'll be doing that conversion in 4-5 weeks....You got an SVX you want to lift already...?? Let me know, John

I am still working with Sean on a kit for his Baja....This guy bought an Aussie Kit from an outfit down in California.... Sean cussed it for 2 days installing it.....It had issues.... Once we Proto-Type our Design on his Ride , We will start selling them thru Rallitek to folks..... Major Difference between the Aussie Kit and the One we are doing is Tire Clearance...... That one doesn't gain anything for larger tires....Ours will let you go as far as you are willing to trim the fenders..... I do have to say the Guy Left Rallitek Packing one Of My Baja Bumpers.....Should have it Mounted shortly if Not already...... Later, John

I could never sit on that thing or try to drive it ..... My need for speed Would Make me see what it's top end was , and as MtSmith said, I'd fly fly away..... Come scoop whats left of me up ..... Definately one Bad A** machine....... Someone must have wrapped the STi around a tree or something.....To donate all the goodies like that.... John
-
Dare To be Different.....Go Purple, or Pink, or Maybe Auqua....... :-p ...... Is your Ride Still yellow....?? If so, Maybe go Black outers, and Yellow centers.....??? Later, John
