Handtool replied to frag's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHmmm, O2 sensors? I replaced my front sensor with a universal unit that had a dedicated ground wire and noticed a smoother idle and better MPG's. Just a thought. Good luck!- Best wax - 1996 Legacy Outback Wagon

Areospace 303 protectant for the dash and anything plastic in or outside the car. A good upgrade for the stereo would be a 6disc changer/tapedeck unit out of a wrx or forrester. Plug and play wiring harness and mounting and can be had for approx. 100-150$ off ebay or Nasioc. Ebay is also a good source for a cheap owners manual. Good luck!- Radio sizes
Handtool replied to mattocs's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYep, sporting the 6 disc changer/tape unit in my '95 legacy. As they said "plug and play". You can get them from the wrx guys on Naisoc for under $150.- Swapping Rear Struts on 97 Outback
Handtool replied to LostWater's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWagon or Sedan? I swapped out struts all the way around on a '95 legacy sedan recently. If its a sedan you have to pull the back seat and window shelf to get to the top strut nuts. Pretty cramped work area. A 12mm ratcheting boxend wrench works well for the the one hard to reach nut, or you need to remove the seatbelt to be able to use a socket. I think the wagons are much simpler. Just pop the plastic panel and they are right there for you. Use side dikes to cut the mounting bracket on the strut for the brake lines, bend it up and slip the line out. (Definately true for front struts, rears might be a clip type affair? Can't recall.) Other than that get a breaker bar and a chunk of pipe for some leverage for the bottom bolts of the strut. They are tight. Good luck!- Installed Trailer Hitch Today

Handtool replied to hearnmike's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX2nd vote for this. I just pulled my 2.2 to do the clutch and was able to unbolt the compressor and tie it back out of the way. It was tight and I really tweaked on the lines but no leaks. Knock on wood.- A/C Recharge
Handtool replied to Takami826's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXKeep looking. $800 is ridiculous. I had a local independent shop pull a vacumn and recharge my system for $69.95 This didn't the slow leak, but it'll get me through the summer.- Balljoint pinch bolt.
Handtool replied to sid_vicious's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you do manage to drill the bolt out with out futz'in up the threads you can get a replacement bolt from the dealership. I don't have a part number but the guys at the parts desk didn't have too much trouble finding a couple for me. Good luck.- replaced temp sender guage still not working
Handtool replied to floater's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had the exact same problem with my '95 legacy 2.2. Temp guage reading halfway as soon as you turn the key. Replaced the sending unit with no change. Today I replaced the guage and it looks to have fixed the problem. It seems that there is something going bad with the guage itself.- EJ22 5spd Wandering Shifter Issue
Handtool replied to the_bard's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSloppy Shifter Fix The whine and popping out of gear may be a bigger issue than worn out tranny mounts but it's a good place to start as they'll need to be replaced for a different tranny anyway.- 1995 Legacy

I bet his oil pressure is fine, it's just the sending unit that's tired. Looks like he just rolled 300,000 miles. You don't get to that kinda mileage on lousy oil pressure.- score at the junk yard.. rare find :P

Handtool replied to Takami826's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGet a hold of WJM here on the board. He works at a dealership and can cut you a key from your VIN #. He did this for me for my '95 Legacy, fast and inexpensive. He can even cut you a key from an STI blank if you want some bling. Good luck.- Cluster retrofit?
Anybody know if a '97 Legacy Outback guage cluster will "plug and play" into a '95 Legacy? Can anybody out there with an '97 auto Outback tell me if PRND12 shows up in the center of the cluster? Thanks.- Stupid Auto Parts Stores.

Handtool replied to subie-dubie's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot usefull in Chicago either. What exactly is the clutch doing? With the clutch depressed you are still ginding into gear? Or is it slipping when you get on the gas giving you a stutter or lack of power?
