  1. A few years ago I put a 95 2.2 into a 98 Legacy Outback and it went to a friend in Seattle. I helped him this weekend try to figure out the no fans on AC and P0441. I put the car in D-Check and the main fan cycled. The sub fan did not. We plugged the sub fan into the main fan connector to make sure the fan was good and it did cycle on and off. I know the 4 relays in the engine fuse box control the fans and AC. The sub fan relay main/silver contacts have no voltage at the connector. I could jump the AC Relay front one and the main fan would come on. Jumping the sub fan did not power it up. The AC compressor does work, just no fans. The Compressor clutch cycles on and off as it should when we have the AC on. I checked the Evap connector at the rear of the car for voltage, I had 0 volts. I'm not sure it was a good reading as the ECU provides the ground, so both leads in the connector would show 0 volts if the ground was open. I did try pin to a bolt but I'm not positive it was a good ground. The schematic show power to the connector when the key is on and the ECU controls the ground. They were just chilton manuals so it may be in error. Any help would be appreciated. Any good USMB Members in the Seattle area with a shop? Thanks Larry
  2. GD you have indicated in the past the Oil Pumps are stamped showing the thickness of the pump. It would be great if you could put some pictures up of the different pumps. Thanks Larry
  3. Sounds like a good plan. I'd also look at the plugs - copper core NGK and Subaru or NGK wires as you know. Fuel Filter/fuel pressure check. Good Luck,
  4. With the car off, try moving the wipers through the normal arc, If they move they are disconnected from the motor. The nylon bushing fail. The one at the motor most often. Three 10mm bolts hold the motor in. You can remove it and then turn the wipers on to watch the motor arm run. Get good used arm/s from the yard,
  5. Have a 2008 Tribeca 3.6L Limited, with Airbag light on all the time. Dealer says code 21 for faulty ECU (is what they called it) and wants around $ 875 to replace. Was wondering 1) If anybody had experience with this issue and resolutions. 2) Where ECU might be located because I cannot find it in Subaru Parts diagrams. (does not list ECU period) 3) Can I get code or not with OBD scanner tool to verify. Any ideas, suggestions, tips etc....greatly appreciated Thanks in advance !!!
  6. Yes, they will go back to the yard for a refund. I was in a rush and saw them, snagged them. Silver, almost new, I thought they were KYB's. Don't rush, even in the yard.
  7. I picked up a set of silver struts. They looked like KYB, come to find out they are SENSEN struts. http://www.sensen-na.com/ Anyone know of these?
  8. Just pulled a full set of KYB's complete with springs and top hats off a 97 Legacy Outback. $100,80 out the door at the yard. I don't need them right now, but when I see them I grab them.
  9. Nice used set of KYB from the rust free CO yard. 30 each. Sweet
  10. If the engine has been overheated there is most likely damage to the lower end bearings. Send you engine to GD for a full rebuild would be best. I just picked up a 99GT where the PO had spent over $2600 to do the heads & HG. 6000 miles later he throws a rod. Purchase $300 Used 95 2.2 with 140K on it. New TB, Seals... $400 Brakes - $140 Sunroof Drain Tubes attached - Hour For under $1000 it once again a great Subaru ready for many more miles.
  11. Both the FWD and AFT Drivers side drain tubes were off! I got both of them back on and tied with a zip strip without dropping the headliner. Remove the Visor Remove the Sunroof trim Remove the Driver upper Seat belt mount bolt Remove the rear Grab handle Remove the plastic Trim, Front, B-pilller and Rear just pull the rear one loose at the front side. Now you have room to gently pull the headliner down and see the drain tubes. The front one is right at the top of the A-piller The Rear is at the front of the C-piller. Put the tube on and add a tie-strap to hold it there. Put it all back together. You may want to check the other side,
  12. Drivers side front and rear seat carpet are wet. I just picked up this car and swapped in a 2.2 motor. Now fixing other things. I was going to check the Sunroof drain for blockage but the sunroof will not go aft. The Motor works but it sounds like it slipping in the gear box. I have not dropped the headliner yet. Any quicker things to check first? I did search the forms and found a couple of post: The one below had the most info: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/117831-99-legacy-wagon-with-leaky-sunroof/?hl=%2Bsunroof+%2Bleak
  13. Yes, pull the axle half shaft and then you can insert and seat the stub shaft with a rubber dead blow hammer of wood block and hammer. I'd also take a close look at the diff half shaft seal to make sure it's not damaged. If it needs to be changed, you may as well change it now.
  14. Is the AT Temp light flashing 16 times after start? If so you have a code in the ECU you need to pull. Search this form for the instructions to do that.
  15. We checked it yesterday and the AWD seems to be working fine. We put a bulb back in the CEL and its working, no codes. Thanks
  16. The starter bolts should not be backing off if they are properly installed. But they are pretty easy and I'd just do it myself. Other things are not related at all to the trans work.
  17. Changed out the trans today with one I had from a 2000. Shifts great. When I jacked one side and put it in drive the rear wheels did not turn. Not AT Temp flashing 16 times after start. I put the FWD fuse in and I got the light. I told my co-worker to drive it a bit, I hope the rear clutch pack engages. The PO of the trans said it worked great.
  18. Yep several dual port y-pipes available in CO 80919 if his does not workout. Larry
  19. You are welcome. When I pick up a car with an aftermarket it Goes in the trash.
  20. There is a main power relay up under the dash. Check the ground at the engine block. Strange not to have any power. Don't have an aftermarket Security system do you?
  21. Thanks wtdash! I'll help my co-worker install and we'll verify front and rears are turning at the same rate. Later, Larry
  22. I did drill down on the above site, but I did not see the Trans #'s listed. If all else fails, I'll install the new trans and jack one side of the car off the ground. I'll mark the wheels and put in drive. After 10 rotations of the wheels, they should be in the same location if the Front and Rear Diff are the same. Thanks, Larry
