  1. Are you positively going to be there? I have purchased them for others in the past only to have them not show up. Which leaves me holding an extra permit. You can buy them that day from the Ranger station that day. They are just up the road.
  2. You do not need JB weld. You do not need to weld. You do not need any other dramatic or exotic repair. All you have to do is have the holes spot faced from the rear. Only as large as the head of the stud. When I did mine years ago I just ground down the area. They held fine, and trust me when I tell you, they were put to the test.
  3. Try a new module in the distributor. Or just pop in a different distributor and see what happens.
  4. Remove that thought from your mind immediately. I would be so inclined to help remove them if I saw them in person.
  5. Brian, call me at the shop. We sell a steel guide replacement timing set. Wish I would have seen this sooner. We also sell an inexpensive torque cam. It really brings the bottom end torque to life. Ken 1-800-562-5500
  6. If you go to Site Help and Suggestions you will find a couple of threads that will assist you. There is not a way to change it permanently but you can do it to read a thread. There are a few Subaru techs that are members. There are a few people who became techs from learning how to work on their Subaru's here. Most are enthusiasts who just do their own repairs and love their cars. But yes, there is indeed a huge database of information here. Now for the disclaimer... SoA is in no way affiliated with this site. They support a lot of the endeavours of some of our members but they do not support this site directly.
  7. There is not a vendor icon. There is not a screening process either. We currently welcome legitiment vendors to our site free of charge. Be glad vendors are searching us out. We need all the vendor support we can get! Welcome Speedy and please share some information about yourselves!
  8. Not only would I give him my keys I would beg to ride along!! We have some stories involving Ken Block. Subifest1 had a Rallycross that featured Ken Block and Jamie Thomas giving raffle ticket ride-a-longs. They timed these runs. Zap and I were allowed to run along with them in my car. Eric beat him outright. I beat him with compiled run time. I later spoke to him about it at Olympus 2008. He even remembered the whole thing. But, back to the subject of handing over keys. A rallycross in Hillsboro, Oregon had a special attendee. Andrew Pinker, Rockstar racing Rally driver, was there. He drove my car! He liked it so much he asked if he could take it for a second lap!!
  9. Yes, the first pic is of the heat shield. No worries there. There is an exhaust stud missing. Which will leak and cause your noise. Where are you located sunni? We may be able to recommend someone in your area.
  10. Residual smoking after replacement of head gaskets is quite normal. Once coolant gets into the exhaust system it takes quite a while to "burn" it out. As you already noted it seems to be improving. The smoking could be valve seal, ring, pcv related. A leak-down test will tell you. A lot of shops have the equipment to do this test. Much better than trying to guess what the problem is.
  11. I call BS... those motors spin very high revs that will go well with a lifted, transfer cased set-up. Step outside the box and go your own direction. Justy rare? Are you freaking kidding me? Add the transfer case and keep the rest Subaru. Make the first...others will follow! You do not have to go huge with 27"+ tires to make it off-roadable. a 2" lift and maybe a set of 20-22" ATV tires will do wonders. Weld the rear diff and make peoples heads spin when you approach.
  12. Wow, that was tight? You guys really need to come up here and drive our courses. I'll see if I can find some of my in-car stuff from the ORV park
  13. No worries. Call us when you are ready to move forward on the project. BTW, good luck with the house.
  14. Some people have cars and some people go through some things that make their cars more like friends. This is how my friend started out... Bought it at auction for $1400.00 and drove it on the trailer. Then to this... Many rallycrosses and adventures later I have grown to trust this "car" with my life. Finally... My daugther was driving in a rallycross. One bad corner with too much speed and time stopped as I watched her and her friend go over. The single scariest moment in my life. But, my friend kept her and her friend safe and uninjured. I have some other pics I will add as well to show how much these cars can actually handle. Goodbye friend...
  15. They may use the same stick but I doubt the profile is the same. I don't really care what the manual says about the cams. I need to see the actual readout from a cam analyzer to show true duration and lobe rise. True that the weber won't work on your turbo. However, a weber will generate more low end power than your weber and be a whole bunch more reliable! If you are unable to afford upgrades for power you may just have to deal with the car as is. Or start hacking up parts such as gutting the cats, opening the air box... No money generates little power.
  16. Adding a set of torque cams will improve bottom end. Or, you can do the sport grind which will improve the mid to upper powerband. Average increases are about 10-15% gains. With no boost to play with your options are limited to bigger carb or larger injectors depending on application.

  17. For the record, not all weberized ea's diesel. None of mine do/did. It is a matter of getting them correctly set. This requires setting mixture, idle and timing to match the motor. It does take a skilled ear to do it right. Ed told me of someone on the left coast who was good at this type of thing back in the day. Maybe he can chime in or I can ask him when I see him next. BTW, good for you!
  18. OMG, that was fun yet painful to watch.
