who's that dis'n the Justy?!
calebz replied to RallyJusty's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We are all glad you like your justy.. but as a stock car, its best described as well.. inferior.. just my opinion though.. some growth hormones.. maybe an extra cylinder.. an auto tranny that worked.. those things would have helped.. it was a very useful experiment.. it must have been somewhat successful, since they are still making them in japan.. but when compared to the rest of the US subaru lineup, they do fall a bit short.. there are a few individual exceptions to this ( aren't there always?).. but as a group.. welll.... Don't take this personally.. just ribbin ya -

Thanks Beach. Rob.. I just looked.. its already there.. go figure:rolleyes: If you get on MSN, i'll send some of the other pics to you.. won't post them.. don't want to offend anyone. I did meet a couple of pretty cool STi owners. There was one there claiming 370HP.. at the wheels.. it looked pretty gnarly under the hood.. but I didn't really have a chance to talk to him about it. All in all it was pretty fun.. lots of people wanting to look under the hood of my turbowagon.. they had never seen one.. a number of people took pics of the motor.. One STi owner called it 'cute' Falenseraf.. sorry dude, I completely forgot about you.. they will be doing it again though.. its in addison, so not to far from you. I will make sure to bring you along next time. Subaru challenge is at North TX speedway in denton isn't it? it happened the week I moved down here last year -

calebz replied to calebz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah.. the STi guys thought it was cool.. none of them had ever seen one before... one guy had a big list of mods done to his WRX.. I asked him how long it took to do one of them and he said "how the hell should I know?".. Apparently none of these guys do their own stuff. A few of them acted like I was some sort of super genius when they found out everything I have done to my wagon.. The auto to manual swap really tripped them out! I tried to explain that a monkey with a 10, 12 and 14mm wrench set could do it.... -
Parts people don't usually know their asses from a hole in the ground .. especially when it comes to hatches.. when you go to the parts store, tell them its an 84.. that will make your life easier.

1.how fast can I go in 4wd? As fast as you want. not recommended for street use though. your 4wd wasn't designed for pavement.. it will bind and break stuff 2.do the front wheels lock in 4wd? (havent played with it too much) No, front diff is open.. rear diff is also open unless you weld it, or have an LSD.. so for all practical purposes, you have 2wd.. one front, one rear 3.is power distribution 50/50? On yours, yes 4.can I shift on the fly? Absolutely.. just push in the clutch and push the button 5.If I were feeling like having a rwd car:) , could I remove the front axles and plug the holes with axle-ends only, throw 'er in 4 wheel and go? Yes can I drive it like that for as long as I want? or are there complications? Yes you can, can't imagin why you would want to.. ...am I a moron? Possibly.. only time will tell

Oh yeah.. this one is going to find its way on to my wifes desk for sure:)

Where did Subaru hide the voltage regulator?
calebz replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If its anything like replacing the diodes in a GM alt, its a real pain. Arch.. does a soob alt have the little holes to put paperclips in to hold the brushes in place while it goes back together like a GM alt? -

Its in the alternator.. it can be replaced, but its a lot easier to replace the whole alt. -
I saw on NASIOC that they were having a meet at a local speed shop.. WRXs, STi's.. So I decided that old school turbo needed to be represented... Heres a pic for now.. will give more info later Safe pics. Not suitable for some employers The other side of the car is covered in mud.. I got distracted by a mud hole on the way there.. they wanted to get the pics on the 'cleaner' side though:rolleyes: Its hard to tell in the pic, but even the cleaner side is pretty nasty and muddy:D Tim. If you insist on pulling my posts, then editing my posts with no communication efforts made, I will assume you have done so in error and continue to ressurect the threads as I see appropriate. Honestly, Now you know what the thread contains, if you don't like it, don't look at it. I do not want to battle with you about your sense of morals and its place on the board.

If you decide to get shorter ones, I would really like to have those. Provided they are still in decent shape. Thanks -

for the power steering, take the pulley off(19mm i think) and there are 3 12mm bolts behind the pulley that hold ot to the bracket.. pop those off and youre good to go. -
Maybe its different for 86, but my 88 FSM says 20 degrees for SPFI.. Sorry torxxx

Are those on the 86?I need some of those.. mine are off a sedan and don't give me enough space..I wouldn't take the both nuts out, maybe 1..or just go to a yard and get some shorter struts off a 2wd car -
Sounds like you have one of the late model 86 SPFI cars.. not terribly common. Timing should be 20 btdc I believe. The sound under your feet could be something like a worn motor, tranny or sway bar bushing.. more info would be helpful. Does it do it when getting on the gas? getting off the gas?

Electrical fuel glitch GL-10 1988
calebz replied to Soiuxbwarrior's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does it cycle on and off every 1.5 seconds or so? If so, the green diagnostic connectors are probably plugged in and it is supposed to do that when they are plugged in. You said the check engine light is on.. Have you pulled the codes yet? Those will probably give you some direction in diagnosing the problem. PS.. Sockets do not belong in the intake.. I usually store mine in the tool box -
Hope this helps

Need clutch info please -THANKS USMB guys
calebz replied to P K's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sure, you can do it that way.. I usually pull it all the way out and spin it around so I don't have to be uncomfortable whilst working on it. But just pulling the rad and moving the engine forward will work too... I have done this a couple of times now and I just got fed up with working under the car or cramming my hands into tight places or bending over the side of the car.. Sometimes those things are unavoidable, but I will gladly do a lttle extra work to avoid them when possible. Oh, one more thing.. Be careful with that hat.. got mine caught on the hood prop rod without realizing it.. Terrible beer headache:D -
New 1st gen owner.. knows nothing
calebz replied to RavenTBK's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats your oil pump. Sorry, but I don't know the availability of gen one pump rebuild kits. I'm sure you can get them from from the dealer, or even (gasp) autozone. Some things are just better from the dealer though
