  1. SubaruBrat.. does the stock 360 maubichi have the attached ESC?
  2. The motor you have is an EA82T.. Direct your search toward the engine designation, and you will come up with more stuff than if you just search for XT info.. Quite a few of us have these motors in wagons..
  3. Never happened to me on a soob, But other FWD cars I have owned/worked on, when the CVs are absolutely trashed to the point of breaking, they will click going forward.. sometimes quite loudly!
  4. honestly, I can't remember.. Its in my mobile tool box because I used it for something.. Just don't remember what.. Probably some nut or bolt thats peculiar to my car...Kinda like the 1/2 inch nuts that hold the struts on..Everyone else has 12mm, but All I had was 1/2 inch..
  5. SPFI is a completely different beast. only one injector, and its mounted inside the throttle body
  6. I don't think the flange on the downpipe is the same for the WRX as it is on the puny stock GL-10.. That just means you are going to have to find a Legacy turbo to slap in there instead:D.. The downpipe will hang a little lower than the stock one as well. As far as the rest of the exhaus, I have no idea if it will fit.. I kinda doubt it though.. Lotsa things changed over 10-12 years..
  7. I'm all about redundancy.. I use the Axle nut and the 2x4:D
  8. I wouldn't imagine that the crank pullies would make a difference in the way it runs.. getting the belts a tooth off would sure do what you are describing..
  9. Getting a motor out of a front end wrecked EA82 car with mechanical fan can be a pain. When I pulled the motor out of my 88 wagon, I had to cut the core support out of the car to get the radiator out, then take the fan off, then get the engine out.. that took more time than actually pulling the motor. No special tools needed.. 14mm deep for the motor mount nuts..plenty of masking tape and a sharpie for marking vacuum lines..10,12,14,15 and 17mm sockets and wrenches, and you can take apart most of the car.. You didn't mention the method you were planning on using to lift the engine.. I have done it a couple of ways.. using a cherry picker (engine hoist) is my preferred way(duh).. but I have also done it by having one person on each side of the car grab a head and yank.. cherry picker is easier.. Heres a pic of an EA82T fresh out of the car.. notice in the pic, that on the car, everything north of the bumper has been cut away for ease of removal from a wrecked car http://usmb.net/albums/albuo11/Car_001.sized.jpg
  10. Changing the EGR valve will not help with a code 34, as the code indicates a failure if the EGR solenoid . Follow the vacuum line from the EGR and it will lead you to the solenoid. Unfortunately, I can't give you any advice on the Air control.. Been a while since I messed with an SPFI car, and every time I try to explain anything about the IAC, I screw it up and Skip has to swoop down and rescue the hapless victim from my advice.. So, heres to hoping Skip will come swooping down..
  11. You have a single range non turbo car .. and you want a D/R Turbo.. get a turbo car and then find a D/R to swap in(RX was the only turbo car that came with a D/R.. and it isn't exacly like the normal 4WD D/R) In my opinion, its not worth it to try to turbo an N/A soob..
  12. I see 2 possibilties. First, its not making it all the way into gear beacause of the radio. Fix : bend the shifter a little to provide more clearance. Second.. synchros in 3rd are going kaput.. Fix: D/R 5 speed.
  13. 75 is not a good thing.. maybe a valve isn't seated properly? Head gasket leak? or.. eek.. rings?(smoke from the exhaust.. low compression..)
  14. Even if you get a complete EA82T, you are still going to need to change the xmember, get the xover pipe, swap wiring harness and computer, as well as the fuel pump, fuel lines and a bunch of other small stuff I'm sure I am forgetting.. the engine itself is the easy part..One of your first priorities should be to get an FSM so you can have the wiring/vacuum/other stuff blowups you need for carb and Turbo so you can readily see whats different. If turbone still has my old 88 wagon, that should still have a good turbo xmember, harness and computer in it.. you might want to contact him.. he's relatively close. BTW, you won't get 9.5:1 CR using a carbed block.. I don't have my manuals in front of me, but the carb CR is 8.0:1 or 8.5:1.. can't remember which..Look for the thread miles fox had when he did the carb block swap on myoss' RX.. I posted the info about CR and piston part numbers there.
  15. This is the definitive place.. If you want a spreadsheet with parts and years and such.. well... A factory parts book may help.. but its not exactly a quick reference..pretty much nothing from the 86 will fit (directly)on the 82 or 84. However, anything will fit if you want it bad enough, and have the tools and skills to alter it accordingly:D Interchangeability is pretty much based on body style.. there are a few minor exceptions(aren't there always a few) However, if the only thing wrong with the 86 is a couple of crapped out axles, and its cheap, I would get it anyway.. But thats just me.. I like EA82 Turbo cars..
  16. Check your error codes first thing.. we can go from there..
  17. The big pair of plugs that connects it to the rest of the wiring harness are different.
  18. If its a GL-10 and its not a turbo, 99% chance its SPFI.. I have never seen an MPFI non turbo GL-10.. Have heard of it, but don't believe it to be common. If its SPFI, you will need more than the turbo heads.. you will need the intake manifold and all the wiring, as well as the ECU from a turbo car.. Plus, your CR will be higher than normal, so you may run into timing/detonation problems. The factory turbo setup uses an external wastegate. Get some pics of the motor in question , or verify which injection system it has and we can help you more clearly.
  19. There is no factory SPFI system.. Turbos are MPFI.. As for changing fom N/A MPFI to Turbo, I think I have read that the ECUs are the same, but with a couple of wires jumpered. BTW.. I got your PM about the XT struts/springs.. I need to hang onto them for now, but may be able to give them up at a later date.
  20. Did you check the timing belt?..or the little screw in the rotor?
  21. Does this go any distance toward answering your question ? borrowed straight from Skip's website
  22. Which places would those be? Try the marketplace.. and the wrecking yards...
