  1. Well, honestly, because EA81s are a dime a dozen and 2002's aren't. I'm afraid someone would cut my baby up if I sold her, I'm just too attached (I talk to my car). If I did buy a truck I would most likely sell it when I was done and get a hatch or something anyway.
  2. OK, way too much money to do it right, and way too risky to do it with what money I have... Looks like I'll be selling the GL sometime and getting a nice little pickup to haul with. I'll post again when I get details figured out.
  3. Regarding my near future move to Tucson... Obviously, I need to drive there. I have a 1972 BMW 2002 weighing about 2200 lbs that I am not willing to part with. That, plus a few things I own, not more than 150 pounds total I think. Renting a truck is out. I would sell the GL and drive my bimmer, but the engine is tired and smoking, I'm afraid it would leave me stranded. So, can an 83 GL with 15 inch tires and couple hundred pounds tow? I just read a thread about running in RWD. Of course that would be better than FWD but could I damage something doing so?
  4. Last night at 12:15 I started up the 83 GL and the tach was very slow to respond... it read way too low at first, then went to what I think was right, but wouldn't move for about 2 seconds after the RPM changed. Tonight it stayed at about 300 for 4 minutes or so and was reading normal by the time I'd scraped all the ice off my windows. It works fine when the car is fully warm and driving. ?????
  5. In a lot of other countries auto companies decide what to build based on customer demands. If you prospective new Sub owners want a manny tranny, you've got to let them know. Say, hey, you can give me a 5/6 speed or I can take my $30,000 elsewhere. If nobody speaks out against the great autoplague, it will consume us all!!!!!one!
  6. Subaru 360 - 1958-1969, rear mounted, RWD 356cc 2 stroke air cooled 2 cylinder, availible in standard bubble car form, Custom (wagon), Sambar (van or truck) and sportier Young S and Young SS versions... replaced by the R2, which as far as I can tell was pretty much the same thing, only less popular... replaced by the Rex in 1972, RWD, rear mounted 356cc 4 stroke water cooled 2 cylinder, increased to 665cc in 1982. Became front wheel drive in 1981 and replaced with the Vivio in 1992. Not sure when they started making normal size cars, but I read that Japanese companies were using Subaru wagons as utility vehicles by 1971 and then the idea came to some dude that if they made them 4WD they could have a chance in America, which happened in 1975. Other countries got the 4WDs in 1972 or 73. hope that helps
  7. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25754&highlight=fastest+suby Your answer might be in here somewhere.
  8. And sometimes when you open the door and try to quickly sit up you can't because the motor didn't activate. What fun!
  9. After the makeshift muffler (pic 1) was beaten to death by rocks, the tailpipe (pic 2) came loose and was dragging on the ground, so I had little choice but to pull it off. As you can see, it was already cracked. I would very much like to have it back on there and a Cherry Bomb welded to the end of it. Is there someone within a hundred miles or so of Medford who could do this for me? Price?
  10. I don't know what an EGR valve is, but it sounds like a primitive and inneficient emmisions device. Would my 83 GL have one and how would I go about removing/disabling it?
  11. Right here on the board! There's marketplace threadS and plenty of rad people here. Junkyards are good too. Welcome to the Board, what model do you have?
  12. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=115&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 look at his current avatar to see what happened next
  13. I seem to remember reading that South Africa is the car theft capital of the world.
  14. I always wear my seatbelt while on the road and most of the time when I'm off-roading, but I take it off in low speed areas where I might need to get out of the car real quick. Also I believe that the seatbelts won't extend when the brake pedal is down. So, is not wearing seatbelts while 4 wheeling a good idea or not?
  15. Hitting the ground, but still attached. I figure I'll pull it off and replace with something that is less that $30
  16. Hot dang, it's good to have a running, driving, stopping, insured and fully legal car again! 1983 GL d/r 4 spd 15" Toyota rims
  17. Oooooohhhh, Omniman you are so evil, you should be ashamed of yourself. As someone who has never ever engaged in any kind of illegal or immoral activity I, and all the other perfect saints here are entitled to scold you and inform you that we are better and more responsible than you, even though we have never met. Shame on you for speeding. As we all know here, going the insanely high speed of 122KPH is evil and bad and it kills people every time you do it. Certainly more people than alcohol or cigarettes or cell phones. Of course if you weren't in a speed competition, say, just seeing how fast your Subaru could go and then posting it in the "What's the fastest you've had your Suby?" that would be perfectly OK. Bad bad bad evil bad naughty bad evil
  18. If they built an EJ22 without digital fuel injection and computers and emmisions equiptment and other natural enimies of poor people I would consider one, even prefer it, but I simply don't have the money to fix those electronic demons when they eventually fail.
  19. Hof often? Is it practical to use on a regular basis? Are parts availible?
