So I bought a new subaru
The Justy ECVT is nothing like any other tranny out there in Subaru land. Hopefully someone here will know more about it. Otherwise, we are just as much in the dark as you are:-\

A few pics from Deals Gap (The Dragon)
Yeah, I quess I have to learn to not believe everything I hear:rolleyes: The police presense helps keep the speeds down, and the traffic is pretty bad on the weekends. But judging by all the parts on the "Tree of Shame" not everyone can handle the road, regardless of thier speed. I saw a few bikers cutting corners, these were usually the big cruisers. They obviously are not made for cornering. I editted my first post and changed it to a average of 3 crashes a week. Totaly realistic figure there, could actually be higher than that.

Car accident Stories
Were you driving or a passenger. Either way, thats a nasty one. Never been in a rollover, but plenty of other wrecks.

A few pics from Deals Gap (The Dragon)
Every State in the US has a road like that. We have dozens here in Washington, the biggest is the northern corridor of I-5. Theres a short 2 corner hill by my place, its called "Sand Hill". If your coming down it when its iced up, your in for a real ride. Even in a Soob;) People are too complacent. They assume the car they are driving will somehow drive itself and they can go about other business. Yacking on thier cell phones, yelling at the kids (My late wife wiped out a mailbox doing that) arguing/playing with the wife, etc. The whole American mindset when it comes to driving is totaly wrong. Its not just a mode of transportation, getting from point A to point B. Your in a vehicle moving at speeds up to 75mph (in some states). You better pay attention, or become a statistic.

Legend of soob reproduction
If I see a empty spot next to a Soob in a parking lot I need to park in, heck yeah I park next to it. Dont want them to feel left out (like that would happen here in the PNW).

Other cars/Vehicles we own
Is that you currently own, or have in the past? I think we are talking about current. I posted pics of my truck because there was a question about it. So I showed pics of it:cool:

Hotwiring a loyale?
A switch to the fuel pump is the best;) When I was gone on vacation I pulled the plugs on the fuel pumps on 2 of my cars. They would have had to tow them away.

Ignition Confusion
The rotor is frozen on the shaft. Its happened to me a few times. Just need to tap on it some (lightly) to break it loose. Might even have to pry on it a little also (again, lightly).

Hotwiring a loyale?
To get around the wheel lock (gads, I'm giving away all the secrets) take a pair of channel locks and get a grip on the ring on the outside of the ign switch. Give it a hard twist and pull. The whole thing will come out, then all you need to do is insert a s screwdriver and turn the lock at the end. But your right about the relay, its actually a switch....just a extension of the ign switch/lock. But you need this off and accessable in order to start the car. I looked at a 87 XT on Monday and there was no one around, so no key to start it. I tried 3 of the keys on my key ring and one started it. If the car is high mileage, almost any Subaru key will turn the ign, with a little fiddling.

Hotwiring a loyale?
Pull off the steering wheel colomn plastic. On the oppisite side of the ignition theres a relay, held on by 2 small screws. Remove it and then you can use anything to turn the relay and sart the car. This post will self destruct after the original thread starter reads it and replies:-p

removing dash??? (help)
The trim piece around the radio and inst panel? Yeah, its a pain. You need to remove the little rectangular piece of plastic next to the clock/trip computer. Theres a screw in there, remove it. You practically need to remove the radio and eq to remove the piece. I think theres two screws on the very bottom under the radio that holds the trim. I think the rest of it, around the panel, just snaps in. But its usually really brittle, so be easy with it.

89 GL XT 4wd... Its here... Fixed on page 3...
Pics man, pics! Sounds just like my red XT. I would look at the disty/cap/rotor if the belts are ok.

Normally, that would be correct. But with the site down his password means nothing and cant be used anywhere else (hopefully).

removing dash??? (help)
Its not necessary to remove the windshield. It makes it easier but not required. You will need to get one of those 90deg angled phillips screwdrivers, or a 1/4 drive rachet with a short bit on a 1/4 socket. Whatever you use, be careful. You can crack the windshiled if you get to aggressive with a tool and smack the glass.

R12 retrieval
That was the most useful out of all the replies, thanks. Ed will get his core, not matter what I do. Guess my best bet for the future of my existing AC units is to just get them converted and say the heck with r12.

Pretty good article here about the "greenhouse effect". I dont want this post to turn into a big enviromental issue and get sent to OT. So lets keep it to ow to get it out of the system without venting it out please. Artificially created chlorofluorocarbons are the strongest greenhouse gas per molecule. However, low concentrations in the atmosphere reduce their overall importance in the enhancement of the greenhouse effect. Current measurements in the atmosphere indicate that the concentration of these chemicals may soon begin declining because of reduced emissions. Reports of the development of ozone holes over the North and South Poles and a general decline in global stratospheric ozone levels over the last two decades has caused many nations to cutback on their production and use of these chemicals. In 1987, the signing of the Montreal Protocol agreement by forty-six nations established an immediate timetable for the global reduction of chlorofluorocarbons production and use. This is where I got it from. http://www.physicalgeography.net/fundamentals/7h.html

Well, that would be all fine and dandy...BUT...this compressor is a core return for Ed and I just wanted to be able to recycle the stuff without to much of a hassle. Seeing how the car is not going to roll anywhere without it being on a flatbed:-\
