March 25, 201214 yr So here it is... I picked up this 85 GL10 Turbo 4wd sedan (same year as the BRAT) last weekend. I sold my 4runner to fund my Brat project (and get away from that hideous mileage)... came out with enough to to buy the GL and fund both projects! It was stored for the last 16yrs and only has 106k on it and runs awesome! It has rust behind the rear wheels from water getting in the trunk but no rocker or door rust. It has a 3.7 rear different but I can't see any LSD marking. I have RX front springs that will be going in in the next couple of weeks... hopefully take care of the rake that was created when the air suspension was removed by the previous owner. So my question is... is there anything that identifies this as an RX package? Plan is to drive it until the Brat is done then garage it and take care of the body. March 25, 201214 yr It has the RX interior. All you're missing is the checkered door cards: Somebody replaced your front bumper and side marker for a post '85/'86 GL. What does the headliner look like? Never seen one in a RX. Edited March 25, 201214 yr by 6 Star
March 25, 201214 yr Author Somebody replaced your front bumper and side marker for a post '85/'86 GL. What does the headliner look like? Never seen one in a RX. Yeah, it has a new fender a Hood as well (thus the black Hood) Head liner is nothing special. I need to find a new bumper and some of the trim.
March 25, 201214 yr It's not an RX. It wouldn't have had the air suspension if it was. It's looks like it's just a 4WD Turbo sedan - possibly a GL-10. It's an odd combination. May not be original as far as the interior goes. Someone could have ordered the RX seats and belts for it when it was newish.... really hard to say. 85 was a really strange year though so it could be this was an availible package. GD
March 25, 201214 yr Air suspension wasnt even available (USDM) for that year I dont believe. Did a check and air was available that year.......learn something new everyday. Or forget something Edited March 25, 201214 yr by Turbone
March 25, 201214 yr Author Everything about the GL is different from the Brat (engine, dash, styling, etc... doesn't seem like it should be the same era let alone the same year. Edited March 25, 201214 yr by tundrabrat
March 25, 201214 yr wow that fender came out great! i think who ever ordered that car when it was new ordered it that way although its kinda weird how it doesnt have the checkerd door cards.. the 4wd shifter is custom too.. i think that was added for better 4low-4hi shifts. ive ridden in this thing and it feels like a brand new car. its amazing. oh i forgot this.:banana: i love bananas lol
March 26, 201214 yr the 4wd shifter is custom too.. i think that was added for better 4low-4hi shifts. No it isn't. That's a standard '85 model D/R shifter. They are different but are prone to splitting in half. GD
March 26, 201214 yr my Ex GF in Denver had one of these a 89 model, turbo, with all the same car was nice..... So keep it and drive the piss out of it.

March 26, 201214 yr Author So keep it and drive the piss out of it. Thanks... I plan to. Will be nice to drive until the Brat is ready to go then it'll be the GLs turn for a make over My garage looks like a Subaru service dept circa 1985!
March 26, 201214 yr Everything about the GL is different from the Brat (engine, dash, styling, etc... doesn't seem like it should be the same era let alone the same year. I'm sure you already know the history, but thats because they kept the Brat and Hatchback EA81s around until '87 for the Brat and '89 for the Hatch. The Wagons, Sedans, and Coupes halted at '85 for the new EA82 versions. Its a shame they didn't make EA82 Hatches and Brats... they would be interesting.
March 26, 201214 yr that one should have lsd as I think all turbo's loyales had lsd also, no. All turbo EA82s had an LSD AVAILABLE, but virtually none of them actually had them. Only the RXs had them standard.
January 8, 201313 yr nice car, can we have a photo of the center radrio 'console', is that a trip computer?
January 8, 201313 yr nice find! That thing is really clean and i love the digi-dash and the interior! +1
