RS took a coupe turns to start this morning but finally did. I am thinking battery might not last another winter. We haven't seen temperatures like this since '03 so it has been a shock for everyone. I took a screen-shot for such occasion:

I assume the BRAT in question is the 87. I personally would tell them that it is for an '84. That way you don't risk getting the cable for an EA82. Seriously though, best thing to do is go to a Subaru dealer for the cable. I got mine for about $20 and the quality difference will blow you through the roof.

Your the opposite of what I did a few months ago. I went from this 83 BRAT To this 2000 BRP 2.5RS: Welcome to this board. You will never find a larger resource dedicated to the older side of Subarus either. Would also love to see some pictures of your RS if you still have them.

How about getting a socket and tightening the bolts that hold the wiper arms on for starts?

I vote no as well on the SVX. I would tell him to buy a first gen, AWD, 5-speed Impreza coupe. I personally, would be a lot happier with one of them than an auto SVX.

Gurgling behind the dash is a big sign that you have an air bubble in your system. Did you jack the front of the car up when you were purging the system of air?
