  1. Replace your alternator. Do it before you get stranded on the side of the road.
  2. Make sure no wires came undone underneath your steering column. I disconnected some connectors under the dash while going down the road once and I lost everything. It did exactly what your describing.
  3. I want to see some more pictures. Especially interior shots.
  4. I have this one and have had really good luck with it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBD-II-SCANNER-OBD2-2-SCAN-TOOL-CODE-READER-OBDII-ENHAN_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1163Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem200276269593QQitemZ200276269593QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools
  5. I agree. I think your car will have a filter next to gas tank and one under the hood.
  6. I drive 80 miles a day on I-40 drive to the university and about ever other day I see some GD WRX. There is a woman in her late 60's that drives an 05 STi WRB on Gold and she waves back.
  7. Connie, I took your advice and 7 months of daily classified car shopping later I found me a car. I bought this a few weeks ago and have still yet to adjust to it. This is a little different from that Impreza L coupe that I drove back in March, and a thousand time different than my 83 BRAT. Here are some picture so enjoy. P.S. I now get waves all the time from WRX owners.
  8. No problem man, glad I could help out. I found that airflow is better with the t-tops open and back glass open. I noticed that when they were out the airflow is decreased considerably. One thing that I wanted to do back in the summer was to buy one of those reflective windshield visors and cut it to fit the t-tops. You will noticed a lot of heat lost and heat trapped because of them.
  9. He should be fine as long as the replacement came out of a 4x4 EA81 vehicle that isn't a hatch.
  10. I am glad I took a picture of this before I sold my BRAT. This should help you a little bit. Here is a shot from the factory service manual.
  11. If you get them I hope you post pictures. I kicked myself for not getting them on my BRAT when I bought tires.
  12. You don't need to fool around if you have an alternator going out. It is cheaper just to replace in your driveway than to get 50 miles away from home and it break down on you. Then you have to pay for the tow home, then do your alternator change. They are not hard and I can change them on a Subaru in 5 minutes.
  13. I got radio interference once because of an alternator going out. Any other weird electrical anomalies?
  14. Headgaskets are my number 1 fear in my RS. I am at 98k and motor does not run hot, nor do I smell coolant. I will be going to the dealer in a couple days to pick up some parts and I am going to run some more of that coolant conditioner through it. I drive this car 80 miles a day and can't suffer to have down time. Its a peppy little motor and from what I have read, it is a lot better than the 98 DOHC EJ25 that the 98 RS's got.
  15. I was always told to stick to the specs given on your VIN plate in the door jamb. How much you getting them for, $30 each?
  16. I fit a love seat in mine. I used an 83 as a daily drive for two years. Will not do it again. I hated driving it in city traffic, 74 hp is really a turd. Don't get me wrong, these are fun and rare vehicles. They are great conversation pieces at gas stations. They are great in the spring time, open them t-tops and have a ball. Best advice I can give is not to get a DL BRAT.
  17. On the EA81's I have owned, the dome light was turned on by the bulb housing. Just want to throw this out here, is your alternator in good operating condition? I had some weird stuff because of a bad alternator in my hatchback (wipers coming on when radio was turned on). I am also going to throw out on the table the possibility of a very bad gauge cluster, the 4pm and after thing is very weird.
  18. I have always wanted to get one together. The problem is that we are just so darn spread out. I am still waiting to find a car that I want, been searching and sitting on several grand since June.
