white is a major rust indicator color I don't have any plain white cars, the rx in stock paint is blah, the stripes make it bareable, the rust gives it character, and the mud belongs there the ski wagon, it's decorated

Any Ideas? 89 Subaru GL Has an Owie
subiemech85 replied to Cynthia's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
MilesFox has done the conversion on a ea81 wagon IIRC it can be done and is worth the trouble IMHO if a subaru isn't leaking, it's out of oil! go to church and make the donation -
Any Ideas? 89 Subaru GL Has an Owie
subiemech85 replied to Cynthia's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the only question now is what trans do you want you can have 4wd, 4wd d/r or fwd -
What does this thing do?
subiemech85 replied to waimaks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the box is a relay the switch is probably hooked to the "signal" terminal and 12v+ you'll have to find out where the wires run, a fox 'n hound is helpful -
it's easy remove door pull, window winder handle, etc., door panel, and then the small bolts, there's 4 in the rear of a wagon

Best way to warm up a turbo Soob.
subiemech85 replied to Gl-boost's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
to let it warm up, put in neutral, depress clutch, turn key to on, let fuel pump shut off, start, let engine "wake up" - give it ?30sec. to smooth out a bit and build oil pressure, release clutch, go in house to warm yourself up, after about ?10-15 min. it should be idling slow and the temp gauge should be in "normal" range, if ecs light is on, do a quick power cycle, and off you go for shutdown, after you reach your destination, let it idle about ?5 min, or about ?30sec after the pyrometer has reached the point at where it idles at warm up, ?1100*f to really pull down the temps, go for a nice long engine braking distance, 50 to 20 mph works nice, can reach ?800*f -
that's right it melted real good I had already removed the outside front covers just turn your head to the left and take a look

What other car rimms will fit a Gl?
subiemech85 replied to Gl-boost's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
IIRC, hondas fit justys -
you should have said SPI! truoble codes 16 crank angle sensor 35 air flow meter 62 egr control sys you may have to set the timing at "base timing" which may involve connecting a connector to make the computer stop adjusting timing the difference in rpm is acceptable, you did put a load on the engine, as would running the cooling fan, blower motor and ac compressor all at the same time the egr solenoid is supposed to control the egr valve, but "can" be disconnected the distributor wear that is the problem is if the rotor can move up and down, and may eventually grind away at the componets, backlash is necessary - only a problem if excessive you may also have to re-set the throttle position sensor

Will EA81 engine go into EA82 car?
subiemech85 replied to danbennett2u's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
like I said, it's similar to swapping a trans you can keep the ea81 flywheel, mix n match componets as needed the exhaust should transfer over unless you have a wierd spacer issue the coil will need to be moved, or change the length of wires McBrat replaced an ea82 engine with an ea81 engine in a red wagon that came from cheftim that engine worked for a while, but developed a major problem :bnaghead: -

with a dvm set on 20v, connect one lead to center terminal and one lead to outer terminal and note reading ~12 = good then connect one lead to center terminal and one lead to good ground and note reading ~12 = good then connect one lead to outer terminal and one lead to good ground and note reading ~0 = good then stick one lead in engine coolant and one lead to good ground and note reading ~0 = good clean both battery terminals and connections the cables should be at least 6ga 18" one goes to the starter monting bolt one goes to the starter solenoid "FOR TESTING PRUPOSES ONLY" to hotwire a ea81 series subaru, + wire from coil + to bat. + and + wire from starter battery cable + to starter small male spade terminal does not work for ea82 if your volt gauge goes up and down with the turn signal on, welcome to the club!

I just gotta do this! check the grounds! with a dvm set on 20v, connect one lead to center terminal and one lead to outer terminal and note reading ~12 = good then connect one lead to center terminal and one lead to good ground and note reading ~12 = good then connect one lead to outer terminal and one lead to good ground and note reading ~0 = good then stick one lead in engine coolant and one lead to good ground and note reading ~0 = good
