subiemech85 replied to seth3030's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
to remove a rear axle, first remove the roll spring pins, using a 3/16 ROLL PIN punch, one for each end then disconnect the dif side, then disconnect the wheel side -
brakes, front and rear done by subiemech85 also assisted in installation of points and condenser eyesore, empty your pm box, or become a usmb donor, $3 well spent!

subiemech85 replied to subestyle18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it may be a rear axle sounds like grinding all the time when moving if you have to clutch to shift into 4x and the noise disappears, it's an axle in the rear, btdt -

to much gear oil ....?
subiemech85 replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there are two dipsticks for the autobox one has gear oil with a distinct odor this one is for gear oil the other is for the transmission fluid it is supposed to be red, and have no offending odor it may help if you drill a small hole for both the hi and lo marks for each dipstick the engine oil dipstick has holes for easy checking of the level -
yes, sending luck and you already have the base color a hatch does suit you going for 5spd d/r? viscous or clutch pack lsd?

Front/rear main seals
subiemech85 replied to Mendodave's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the nice thing about the ea81 pulley is it pops off after the bolt is removed very common problem and simple fix mine left a line on the top of the oil filter, not anymore! -
a bolt won't work it's tapered and designed to seal properly without additional sealer http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/item.wws?sku=61114&mfr=MOTORMITE&cookieID=1E31DBFG61E31DBLRL&clientid=motormitedorman&clientid=motormitedorman or http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/item.wws?sku=61116&mfr=MOTORMITE&cookieID=1E31DBFG61E31DBLRL&clientid=motormitedorman&clientid=motormitedorman or http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/item.wws?sku=61118&mfr=MOTORMITE&cookieID=1E31DBFG61E31DBLRL&clientid=motormitedorman&clientid=motormitedorman or http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/item.wws?sku=61123&mfr=MOTORMITE&cookieID=1E31DBFG61E31DBLRL&clientid=motormitedorman&clientid=motormitedorman or http://www.motormitedormancatalog.com/item.wws?sku=61141&mfr=MOTORMITE&cookieID=1E31DBFG61E31DBLRL&clientid=motormitedorman&clientid=motormitedorman now all you need to do is find a place that has one, oriellyauto.com good luck!

1. stock y-pipe 2" all the way back to a glasspack in the stock location followed by a 2" tailpipe sound and performance is good 2. check fuse and grounds 3. buy a pcv valve from subaru, the others are junk -
troubleshooting alternator
subiemech85 replied to jwikan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you have two separate problems 1. the volt guage going up and down is "normal" there is an insufficient wire that feeds the ignition circuit that goes bad over time 2. have the alternator tested if you acquire a replacement alternator, have it tested, even if it is new or rebuilt -
just put the grey heads on the blue engine save the blue make grey the donor is the lsd viscous?
