85 5spd d/r normal driving, milesfox diagnosed it as speedo cable  arrive at destination, noise when clutch engaged in neutral or gear drive around, 2nd synchro = grind go mudding, shift from 1 to 3 lo, to compensate for lack of 2, made it the farthest that got stuck, clutch set on "bake" abandon cars, go to prom awhile later, my car shows up, missing a few nonessential parts, thanks MilesFox 84 4spd d/r accerating on interstate, 3rd gear, 4 grand, go to shift to 4th, grind......................... shove it back in 3rd, and drive it home can't move out of 3rd no matter what put 85 trans from above in to replace 84 trans, still going good, except for that 2 synchro

Air filter clogged in two weeks. EA81.
subiemech85 replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it may very well be the cause of the problem and other driveability issues, dumping exhaust gas in the air filter housing or you could be picking up ash from mt. st. helens check your sparkplugs -
just run open ports:drunk:

the advance timing is a matter of application determines the curve#1 should point to #1, it's close if you're clueless -

also, after you run straight water, it is a good time to add a bottle of 10 min flush to remove all the scale buildup, then flush it out with water, leaving the rad drian valve open

I had a water pump go bad, it stil pumped like it should, but you could rock the shaft back and around side to side -
but, the right valve cover recieves atmosphere air, which has moisture in the form of humidity, over time that moisture combines with blowby gasses to make the goo you know don't touch the head gaskets

manifold to engine coolent line (small)
subiemech85 replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you can use fuel line to replace it, mind is fuzzy as I changed a bunch of stuff around to make the ea82 carb and manifold work on the ea81mive this, cut that, it all works
