  1. my '88 hatch, is kinda an odd one. Early 1988 hatch. You think... hmm.. probably good for an EA82 in there. Nope, it has an EA81. And it has quad head lights. Like that from an 84. All the parts on my car are EA81, and if I ever order parts, I HAVE to order '84 hatch parts. So, I've got the hitachi, 02 sensor, and the ECU in my car.
  2. I've got a hitachi carb but a nippondenso rotor... accell coil... yep.
  3. hey, lookin for power window motors that'll work on my EA81 '88 hatch. Do coupe doors work, what about wagon early 80s wagons? thanks, later.
  4. If I get really desperate for parts of some sort, I could pay someone to pull them and ship them (plus pay them for the charge the PAP has)
  5. well, for power windows, it's just a motor, a lead and a ground right? The lead goes to an accessory 12v+, so when the key is in and turned, it supplies voltage to the motors. What about an ECU, what? Why for motors?
  6. I'm gonna need to do two axles soon... my fronts (FWD) are goin out, they'll die, but I don't know when. All I need is a week, maybe two. Right now it's just a shimmy and some clicking in cold weather when you come to a stop and make a turn. (either way, both axles are sayin bye-bye.) Many people have told me that it's easier to go to a JY and grab some axles that look really good, repack and boot them and slap them in. Personally, I use the hose clamps (radiator, example) to hold the boots on. sure, they cost about $1.50 a piece, so you need 8 for both axles total, but hey, it's a hell of a lot easier than those stupid things they give you with the boots... and I haven't had any clearance issues yet.
  7. hey, I've got 7 days of work in a row, I need some JY axles, also wouldn't mind finding some new grill stuff for my hatch. quad square brackets and straight grill, not checkered like my current. So, come on, there's lots of people who want to go on a boneyard hunt, I'm sure at least Andrew, Russ, and I could do it, what about maybe General Disorder, or any of the other portland or eugene guys? what about maybe the 4th? (saturday) Y'all know this would be fun. I also need power window motors, some interior panels, and all the stuff required for them to work in my doors. maybe a cargo cover, and some more of those push things that hold the modling in place.
  8. PAP are generally just good. The 4 barrel from an RX7 is supposed to be a hitachi basically jetted the same but only four barrels (it's something like two of ours put together) and i looked for it, but the car that came with it had it taken out. I guess I'm still going for the weber .32/36
  9. cool. I got a good hose (there were only two good SPFI hoses in the whole yard that I found. I got it only for $5, not too bad. I'll probably re-direct it and put a cone filter on it later. yeah.
  10. possible leak in the intake somewhere (the hoses, ect.) Just look at the air filter box, the hose running from that to your engine, and check your exhaust for leaks. I think maybe it's a leak. How BIG is the backfire, is it light? Do you get a whispy sound when you push the gas down that you don't get when you lay off the gas? Mine made a noise that was pretty hearable (blown exhaust gasket) and backfired just a little. You may want to run some FI cleaner through your car (fuel injector cleaner)
  11. I paid $5 at Turner PAP for the top hose from an SPFI EA82 (bolts onto throttle body) and used a 2 3/8 to 2 5/8 adapter, took off the small subaru gasket that normally goes between carb and air filter assebly. Went right on, tightened her down with the hose clamp that was already on hose, and presto. At the end, I didn't get an air box, but I just put a 4" chrome deep dish air filter assembly on there. Now I have my PCV system hooked back up on it, and it looks kinda cool with this "Subaru FI" thing on top of my hitachi. Now I don't get the whispy sound of the carb sucking in air, and I don't have that small leak I didn't notice before. coolio. Maybe some day I can grab pictures. PS: Engine sounds better, I actually have power above 5k now, and I think that's due to the small leak I had before.
  12. dude... that's amazing. that is simply amazing, something so small being so important, and working so well. cool. thanks.
  13. yeah, GD, my hatch does 75 at 4 grand in 4th gear. But unless I need to move quickly or something I just use 5th gear after 55mph.
  14. The last time I replaced my rear fuel filter ('88 hatch... it's the passenger side wheel area) I saw something that looked like a fuel pump. Small little box with some wires leading from it. This is maybe the only thing I've found that looks like a fuel pump on my car, aren't they supposed to be under the car near the tranny in the front? thanks. just curious, I don't need to replace it or anything.
  15. i'm too lazy to re-read the entire post, but have you replaced the fuel filter(s)? Mine has two.
  16. blown exhaust gaskets suck. I despise them.
  17. You could maybe find a weber for a lot less than you think. Sure, new, with a complete 4cyl jet kit is going to be expensive (lets just say around $300) You could go to a JY, and maybe get one for $50. Then order the subaru 4cyl jet kit from carbs.net for another $50, and the adapter plate for whatever, and you've probably not touched half the price of a new one. this is probably what I will do later. My carb is starting to have problems. Gas mileage is going *way* down as time increases, and my carb is idling weird and sputtering. I've replaced many many things in the car and nothing has done much. I figure I can maybe tune a weber up to get better mileage than I'm getting now. (250mi per tank... I used to get 450 when I used plus at 8BTDC, and then it dropped to about 300, now I'm running 12BTDC and super and I get 250. If I got 350mi/tank I would be happy.)
  18. It could be more than the carb itself. PCV, EGR system Head gasket problem Piston rings Seems to me that you're eating your oil, and when you go around hard rights, all of your oil sloshes to the left side and is getting eaten up. You're sure bet is to redo all seals, gaskets, and rebuild the carb.
  19. Jon's vote: NA block, gen 3 heads, spider intake, and fab up a new set of down pipes and uppipes. don't forget a BOV and a turbo timer, plus an intercooler... and oh... you also might want... and don't forget... or... or... and then.... (ect.) The list could go on forever. How simple or complex/expensive do you want to go?
  20. higher octane/advanced timing (you probably are doing this, but I don't see it specifically listed as such) For a good sound and performance, go with some new bigger performance cams. Go for that "I'm idling, I sound like a muscle car, and I'm about to die" sound. you could do some NA pistons... or hell, if 1600 pistons will fit, go for that. I'm sure it'd boost the CR well over 10:1. In an ea81 it puts them at 9.5:1, so imagine in the EA82 what would happen. I think the NA EA82 is already 9.5:1. Anyhow, not much for the turbo car I guess... you could do a twin turbo setup, one on each side. I'm guessing your not running with any cats? (cats are bad... m'kay?)
  21. Frank B: You have to remember that even if there was a 1.8L 4 cylinder and a 3.6L 8 cylinder, you wouldn't double the PSI to match the displacement... the turbo is only supplying one chamber at a time, so 8PSI on any system still pushes 8PSI into each chamber. The only time that max PSI of an engine would change would be when you went to bigger displacement cylinders. (450ml to 500ml or 550ml) And the XT6 can't take as much pressure as an EA82 because it has a higher compression ratio.
  22. shoulda been drivin my hatch. If I'm *on the gas* I'll shift at 4,500. Barks into fourth. Beat a jeep and a couple hondas.
