  1. About This: My Own experience about the Relation between the Tickin' Lifters and Oil Viscosity is Backwards ... ...please let me Explain: I Live in the Warm ~ Template Caribbean Climates of Honduras, so I Always Use SAE 20W~50 Motor Oil on my EA82 "BumbleBeast" since it was almost new, now the engine has 300,000 miles so far... it Still Runs Strong and Smooth as a Weberized and well maintained EA82 could achieve. It doesn't have the "Tick of Death" problem, but tends to be a Li'l "Noisy" on its Hydraulic Lifters (Not too Noisy as the T.O.D.) only when is first started on Cold Mornings of our Winter times... and when I let it Idle in the Morning for a While, but the noise Dissapears after I start Driving (when Oil Pressure increases), and it doesn't come back for the Rest of the Day. There's absolutely no Hydraulic Lifters' noise during our Summer morning starts nor in the rest of the Warm-to-Hot Climates months we have here. BUT if I pour 15W~40 Motor Oil on my "BumbleBeast" which I had to do a couple of times, the Same Hydraulic Lifters' noise not only increases a Little, but it Stays all day Long, despite the li'l increased oil pressure on the System, due to the thinner oil. The Question is: Why? ...and I believe that the Answer could be this: What do you Think about this? Kind Regards.
  2. You are forgetting the Molybdenum Disulphide, shortened as "MoS2" which is an Extremly Good Oil Additive, with Proven Positive Effects. The MoS2 is totally the opposite to Teflon, because instead of adding a Film "Layer" of sticking gunk, it does really work as Liquid Ball Bearings, also seems like "MoS2" is the Future of electronics, as you can read ~► Here. I've poured it in my Subaru "BumbleBeast" Weberized EA82 engine, and in my Wife's "KiaStein" T8D DOHC Engine. I've used for Many Years, Special Gearbox & Differential oils formulated with "MoS2" in 80W~90 from Motul, as you can see: I've used Motul Gearbox / diff oil with MoS2 (Molybdenum Disulphide) Since many years ago, Always with Great Results; believe me: it REALLY Smoothes any Manual Gearbox I've poured it in (and I've used it in many, many cars, from friends' to my family cars, and someone else's cars I've serviced), so beside the extended life for a Gearbox / diff, it also makes it Smoother, I mean Softer shiftings and reduced noise & heat. The Molybdenum Disulphide is Widely used in High Quality Constant Velocity Joints' Grease: The Correct Mix of Oil or Grease with MoS2, was patented by the German Lab "Liqui-Moly" as you can read: ~► Here, and its formula is used in Liqui-Moly / Lubro Moly Motul Products, widely known here, with great Reputation. Kind Regards.
  3. I Agree with twitch on this: That is Why I clarified: Kind Regards.
  4. Yes, that is why I Suggested to put a Resistor behind each bulb on the First instance.
  5. I Like how it is, very well done! But that Lifted Subie isn't a Daily driver, is an offroader only, isn't it? Because I see the Front wheels' alignment like This: / \ Kind Regards.
  6. You could place an in-line Resistor for each side, behind the Bulbs, like This ones: ~► http://www.amazon.com/Resistor-Hyper-Blinking-Warning-Signal/dp/B002CJQIGW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360762474&sr=8-2 Kind Regards.
  7. No JDM Impreza came with Dual Range? If it's from a JDM 2.0, then it must be from a Forester. To the best of my knowledge, no JDM Impreza has ever had a dual-range gearbox, only the Forester. I say this as I live in NZ, which is pretty much the home away from home of JDM... The LADM (Latin American Domestic Market) Specs Subarus, All could come with Dual Range as Option, except Turbos; that includes the Imprezas. ~► Look Photos from Post Nº 62 at this Thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/98480-need-advice-legacy-wagon/page-3 Kind Regards.
  8. As Far as I understand, you can achieve Better Mileage with thin Oil... ...but the cost of that is Shorter Lifespan of engine internals.
  9. Very Kindly, let me ask you the reason Why you change your Subie's Oil every 2 ½ or 3 weeks?
  10. I Voted for you, once Again; and I will do more times if Necesary. I Really Like your Beautiful Subaru and Everything you has done to it, deserves the First Place. Good Luck! Kind Regards.
  11. You're Welcome! Yes, In my Own Opinion, Since the Subaru Original oil filter is Very Expensive... ...Purolator L-20064 or L-10028 are the way to Go... I Avoid Fram & Luber Finer ... Kind Regards.
  12. About the Subaru EA82 Oil Filters, I've been using many different Oil Filters' Brands, but the easiest (and Cheapest but with Good Quality) to Buy for me, is Purolator, those are everywhere at any aftermarket Auto Parts Store, also the Local Walmart sells them as cheap as Lps. 50.ºº (Lempiras, our Currency) = $ 2.50 US Dollars. Despite that the Purolator Oil Filter needed for the EA82, is the L-24457: I Use the larger L-20064 more often: And some times I've used the Smaller L-10028: As you can see in those Screen Captions of the Official Purolator Website, those three oil filters has Identical Thread, Neck Base Fitting & Gaskets, and same Wide, the Main difference is the Longer or Shorter bottle Size, But also the Shortest one doesn't have an anti Drain Back Valve, which isn't really needed, since the Filter lies Horizontal. I've Never had a Problem with those. But I had a Problem once with a "Luber Finer" filter, in 1994 year, because even using the one said by the Book, its threaded neck was soo Deep that it Barely reached the first two turns of the Oil Pump's base, and after fifteen minutes, My dad and I heard a huge "POP" Sound on the engine bay, my Dad who was Driving the "BumbleBeast" steer it to the roadside and shut it off inmediately; then we saw all the New oil flowing to the Ground, and the Oil Filter was 25 meters away, behind the car... So I Stay Away from Luber Finer and Fram, a.k.a: "Death in Orange Bottle" due to its cardboard cheap quality seals, as you might see in the Above Posted Link. Kind Regards.
  13. I Used Delo 400 from Chevron in 15W~40, which is formulated for both Diesel AND Gasoline engines, in my Wife's "KiaStein" T8D engine. About Oil Filters, See This Thread: ~► http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1855050 Kind Regards.
  14. I've been using SAE 20W~50 Motor Oil on my Subaru "BumbleBeast" EA82 since I can Remember ... ... 300,000 Miles so far and it Runs Very Strong! (This is an Age old Photo, from when it was White:) But My Caribbean Country has Warm to Hot Climates 75% of the Year. The Very Few Times I went to 15W~40, the Hydraulic Lifters becomes Noisy. This Thread could Help you with Much more Info on Oils: ~► Here. Kind Regards.
  15. I've used Motul Gearbox / diff oil with MoS2 (Molybdenum Disulphide) Since many years ago, Always with Great Results; believe me: it REALLY Smoothes any Manual Gearbox I've poured it in (and I've used it in many, many cars, from friends' to my family cars, and someone else's cars I've serviced) so beside the extended life for a Gearbox / diff, it also makes it Smoother, I mean Softer shiftings and reduced noise & heat. This is the Gearbox / Differential Oil I've used on my Subaru "BumbleBeast" 5MT: Different Formulations of MoS2: MoS2 is Way Better than PTFE (Teflon) Additives such like Slick 50. If you could not find Motul Reinforced with MoS2, try Subaru Extra-S Gear oil. Kind Regards.
  16. Good Job! Maybe this info could be Helpful: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90403 Kind Regards.
  17. When I installed The SJR 2" Lift Kit for the Front of my Subaru "BumbleBeast" I dropped the Engine's Crossmember 1½" Inches to let the Axles sit as Straight as Possible; The SJR kit came with Rectangular tubes, Strong enough to be Placed between the Body and the Crossmember. See: ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117874&page=3 I also had to extend the Steering Shaft. Kind Regards.
  18. Does yours Look like This one? ~► http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=127197&page=138 We had EFi Justys here in Latin America, but I never saw a Turbo Intercooler version... Is yours a Factory Turbo Intercooler Justy, or you installed those? I'll Love to see Photos of your Justy. Kind Regards.
