Well, my uncle took it to the local dealer and they pulled a code 22 I beleive. Turns out he needs a new airbag control unit and wiring harness. Does anyone have that and a tailgate handle for a 98 outback sitting around?

To safely rid your system of fuel pressure your car needs to be able to run. disconnect the connecter for the fuel pump and start the car and let it run until it dies. After that, you're good to go.

My uncles's outback just failed its inspection (Virginia) because the airbag light is on and has been on for the last three years. The horn and cruise control still work. I've heard that a non functioning horn/airbag light combo can be a bad clock spring in the steering column, but if its just one of these problems occours, could it still be the clock spring? Well guys, after poking around and looking for things to ground, I found that the grounding strap for the transmission to the body of my wagon was disconnected. The hole in the body was stripped so I used a bolt to secure it. When I went to check the dash, the crazy shutdown noise was gone as were the dim display on my dash! So, the moral of this story is to check your grounds for any strange electrical problems you might have.

When my Dad got his WRX we had the head unit croak. The ECU needed a reflash too. Not much has gone wrong with this car and we still love it despite the things that have gone wrong. I don't think our car, or yours is a lemon.

Did a search but came up empty. What is different between the two lift kits? The front strut mounts obviously, but are the engine and tranny crossmember spacers larger as well? Also, with a 4" front lift, is it necessary to trim the front fenders with 27 or 28 inch tires?

The problem with my dash isn't that its blacking out or squeeling while I'm driving. It only makes the noise when I shut the car off and just recently some of the columns of green tubes have gotten a little dim. Is this the same sort of thing that happens when they blow on everyone else's car?

After I noticed that my dash was whistleing when I turned the car off, I was told to have my alternator checked for proper voltage. I took it to Schucks today and here are the results: Actual Battery volts: 14.40 Actual Rippple volts: 0.29 Actual Lamp On volts: 2.46 Actual Lamp Off volts: 14.32 So apparently, my alternator is just fine. The manager of the store said it might be a bad diode, but where the heck is that? How do I check it and replace it if needed? Also, it was suggested that I make a better ground from the digi dash, but I'm confused as to what actually needs to be grounded? The digi dash itself? The ground wire coming FROM the digi dash? Add a ground? Any help you guys can suggest would be great.

I agree, you should go back and keep pestering him about the car. Don't take no for an answer! Brats need to be saved, especially since this one is a turbo! Go get that puppy!
