  1. How have I not seen this post for so long? What kind of engine management are you running? Can you elaborate on your other electric mods? Pics of your header?
  2. Can you take some more detailed pics of where you notched the frame to clear the valve covers? I was thinking of a similar swap, maybe into a wagon.
  3. Looks like a good time! I'll have to get my dumb hatch fixed and take it up next time the easy trails are being run.
  4. Take it somewhere else and have them align it. These guys sound pretty inept at their jobs.
  5. So you're the one who bought those NOS center caps.... Looks good.
  6. Haven't preoperly cleaned the seals, and they are pretty nasty. I'll put that on the to do list. I don't know about adding any more washers. I've seen too many of the latches cracked to want to add any more resistance to the mechanism.
  7. I've got the appropriate car sans engine and tranny as well as the transmission in question. I could try slipping them together this weekend. Hmmmm, ideas just came to my head....
  8. I'm pretty new to the Gen1 camp, having driven nothing but Gen2s and WRXs. I'm trying to get to know this chassis a little better and was hoping you guys could shed some light on what your favorite modification(s) are. Is there a better brake recipe for stage 1 cars? Easier way of getting that new iPod-ready stereo to mount? Know how to keep the clock from fast-forwarding time? I want to know what you have done, and why/how it's benefited you. I'll start. My favorite mod is jumping into a Gen1 brat after driving a suspicious EA82T wagon.
  9. I'd still like to get my hands on one of these set-ups. Headlight washers and rear seat shoulder belts too. Can anyone help me?
  10. Update: I installed the washers like you suggested. It seems to have cured the leak on one side, and slowed the other. Any other ideas?
  11. I was able to reproduce it yesterday, but when I started it up just now to drive four blocks to my house, I'm not sure it made the noise. Not sure what the pitch of the sound is and won't have access to a stethiscope until Friday.
  12. On a WRX and other new subarus, many say those wheels look small, even in a 17" size. I think you just created the first GL DUB Edition!!
  13. This might be close to what you're after. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74588&highlight=headlight+conversion
  14. Lets make it four in a row! I actually recently installed RX front springs onto EA81 4WD struts using the EA81 strut top. Works fine but is stiff and underdamped. Still wondering about the brakes though. Could EA82 front brakes be modified to fit an EA81?
  15. Just wondering if you dropped one in. How do you know this? Looking to do the same. In the research stage...
  16. Jibs, can you take a picture of your brats crossmembers from below? I can compare them to my '80. Does anyone have any measurements of the depth, width and height of the EJ22?
  17. Last night, our WRX developed a knocking sound in the front of the car, presumably from the engine. It only happens at a partial throttle opening and between 3,000 and 4,200 RPM. If I floor it at those RPMs, it sounds and goes like normal. Same at lower RPM crusing. There is no knocking sound at idle. I changed the oil and filter on Saturday and it is still full and not leaking. Any theories?
  18. Yeah, they aren't too expensive. A few hundred bucks should get you a nice one. Same deal with older BMW V12s. They are dirt cheap because to run them in anything but a bimmer, you need a stand alone engine management. A shop near me just dropped one into an older Range Rover.
  19. Does anyone have any new leads or experience with upgraded clutches?
  20. I'm sorry, but how can Hydro power be considered low impact? In Washington at least this kind of production is desimating salmon runs at an unheard of rate. In fact, besides Alaska, there is not a single "healthy" salmon run on the west coast of America. Any time a hydro dam in built, the local ecosystem is irriversably changed. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and hydro is not going to get us there. Go solar baby!! Also, because farmers are switching to corn and have been for years (stupid government subsidies), the price of hops and barley are going up. This increases the cost of everyones favorite drink, BEER!
  21. Mine started life like this: And ended up like this:
  22. I don't think we have enough combined dyno experience to really say for sure where the upper limits of EA82T power are. The best we have are those two or three people who have dyno'ed their cars. They have hard evidence, and anything we speculate is just that... speculation. Build it, dyno it and then get back to us. As for the suspension, newer legacy stuff can be modded to work in the rear and pretty much any EJ stuff can be made to work with a front 5 lug conversion.
  23. I did the exact same swap last summer. Earlyish XT-T engine into '88 GL-10-T. Only problems I had was swapping over the GL TPS sensor and some vacuum stuff. That was because I kept the XT manifold. Everything else was a direct swap. Go for it and have fun!
  24. And also make more power than un-equal length. Two thumbs WAY up!
