  1. If it uses the same solenoid as a '97 I have one for you.
  2. That thing in the mid pipe is a resonator. I thought it was a cat as well the first time I ran across one. They started putting them on late 97's and all the 98's and 99's had it. No clue why.
  3. 96 EJ25 heads should work just fine on a 97 EJ25. Everything is the same except solid vs. hyd lifters and they use the same head gasket.
  4. All 95-99 front seats are the same. The wagon has a different rear seat than the sedan. 95-99 door panels will interchange but the 98-99 switches mount slightly different. If you get the panel with switches or are creative it works.
  5. I'll probably go to carlisle, it's not too far from me. I have the 360 looking halfway decent now, it's all one color and no more rust. It's not a show car but whatever.
  6. They seem really solid. I pull cars up onto my trailer by them and also use them to tie the cars down. I think they would hold up to pulling a car out of mud.
  7. It will work. The automatic engine will have EGR. Your manual won't. It shouldn't make a difference. You could just drop it in as is with the automatic intake manifold and the egr just won't work or plug the EGR hole in the head and use your old intake manifold.
  8. Well 69 subaru's don't have a dash thermometer:-\ It was 15 this morning and the 360 fired up on the first try.
  9. Theres a big black box hanging under the drivers side of the dash for the keyless entry. The button is usually zip tied to the wiring for it.
  10. I get a lot of them where the flange at the back of the converter rusts away, I use a split flange on them. It's like $5 at autozone.
  11. I wonder if you could get some of those sleeve gaskets things made up in copper by one of the places that make race copper head gaskets?
  12. You should check compression. That will tell you if you have bent valves. If you broke a belt on an EJ25 you most likely have bent valves, they are interference engines.
  13. You need to cut it off on the side with the nut (not the side with the spring) Cut right through the nut flush with the flange. If you cut it in the middle the end with the nut will stay attached, it doesn't pull through, there is a step in the bolt. When I get them like that, I try to snap it off first, before I break out the sawzall.
  14. Look at the mounting of the engine to the transmission. See if it's 4 bolts or 8. Does your engine have EGR? Is it DOHC or SOHC. This will help us determine what 2.2 is easiest to use. '99 was a transition year with lots of oddballs.
  15. It's best to have matched tires, but IF they measure out the same (not likely) it's acceptable to have 2 different brands. I would hold out for 2 more of the same tires. Unless the dealer has a very small profit margin on the car (not likely) they will give you 2 tires to avoid losing the sale.
  16. You want to put the cams in with everything in the position that you install the timing belt at. Then just put belt on and nothing interferes.
  17. You're doing it right. Make sure to line up the mark on crank before you put the cams in. When you put the cams in, get them close to lined up and you won't have any interference problems. If you aren't sure put the pulley on and the double marks go towards each other.
  18. I have an extra 360 sedan sitting around. I thought of putting an electric motor in it. Somebody has already done a 360 van and it came out good. But the sedan is so small, nowhere for the batteries. Maybe someday there will be tiny lightweight batteries.
  19. I think you could switch them if the diameter of where they press on is the same. I bet it is.
  20. Take it to a car wash and use some spray degreaser and the high pressure hose to clean the bottom of the engine. Then drive it a few days and the leak should be easy to find. Whith what you've done so far it seems like it might be the seperator plate on the back of the engine under the flywheel.
  21. I would pay up to $1000 for a '98 Impreza with a bad engine. Mileage and condition weren't mentioned, which is a big deciding factor in what to pay. I use the NADA guide for pricing.
  22. What's low mileage for you? If I can find some LGT's that need work like head gaskets, engine, trans etc, I think I could sell you one in that price range no problem. I have 4 U-pull yards in the area and get parts dirt cheap. I'll keep you in mind since I have no luck selling sedans or leg wagons around here, everyone seems to want an Outback so that's what I've been doing. We've totally jacked the OP's thread now...
  23. They were Outbacks and really nice ones. Here in PA Outbacks are what everyone seems to want. Even on a lot 5200 is a lot to pay for a 98 LGT. Most of the lots around here advertise them for around 4500 or so. You can usually get a nice one off the 'bay in the 4,000 range. I'd be willing to bet the car in question could be talked down at least 500-1000, especially this time of year. Sales are always slow around the holidays and lots will be desperate for a sale.
