  1. first and foremost i would check all your fuses (unlikely but possible)....than i would do a visual for any open exposed wires.....do you know the age or state of your alternator/ battery? how many miles on your car?
  2. YES...got to drive a bright like forest green 03 legacy today...i really like that color....
  3. just mentioning what others have said.....i had this very thing happen to my 96 legacy 2.2 i was cruising up a semi-steep hill at about 60 mph, hit a BUMP and .....than the car started to sputter and it died......cranked its butt off but wouldnt start.......turns out the timing belt jumped a tooth or two ( it was a pretty hard BUMP)...... anyways good thing is its a non interference engine so no harm done....
  4. i obviously know its not the best route for it....but when i put in my amp's i ran my power wire through the opening for the clutch cable......though there is plenty of room under there to drill a new hole...... but yes as others have said make sure the wire isnt rubbing against anything.....
  5. ah yes....i just got around to replacing my clutch cable in my 96 legacy 2.2...i was wondering why the pedal felt so much easier to push in......my subie had the original clutch cable at 192,000 miles....its amazing the difference......
  6. its a pretty easy job...i myself have a 96 legacy with a 2.2 and its prob. the easiest alt. i have ever done (i got a job at work today for an alt. on a 89 prelude and lets just say..... thats why i have a subaru) anyways enough of me babbling on.....if you do get the chance i would pick up a haynes manual, its one of the easiest ways to learn new things....and there only like $20......or im not to sure but maybe this site may be some help.... http://www.endwrench.com .... do a search in the archives section......
  7. dont use any gasket sealant..new valve cover gaskets do wonders....i just replaced them on my 96 2.2......the new gasket set should come with gromits for the bolts.......i think for both sides it took me like 20 min.....its not hard.....just dont overtorque the bolts....
  8. not that this has anything to do with your post..... but your from austrailia and its a brumby....check this thing out....... http://youtube.com/watch?v=enMDCVKVjUc
  9. 1995...well im not sure if you have the same thing as i do on my 96 legacy ej22 but i have 2 coolant temp sensors....1 for the gauge and 1 for the computer/fans whatever.....if you say your gauge is fine than i would replace the one for the computer......
  10. i have a 96' legacy and they are basically all the same.....all you need is a few simple tools, a jack, jackstands, and a couple hours (if that) (for a novice).....i would suggest buying a haynes book for this car they are very handy ( i did my whole clutch job with that book alone).....
  11. like i said i would def. do a very thorough look over the car and make sure everything is ok...and if it is and you can replace the mount i would see no problem not to buy it.....is it and auto or manual trans?
  12. +1^ it sounds like a good deal to me if that happens to be the ONLY problem.....i would try to get them to knock off the $200 for the mount.....and if you get the mount they are pretty easy to do...even in your driveway......i would get together a list of questions to ask them about recent service...timing belt, head gaskets, rust, anything you can think of....that is a good low mileage car with a great engine but it is 13 years old......
  13. when i did my cam seals i just held the sprocket with a massive pry bar and it worked beautifully....
  14. could always try changing the auto. trans fluid..... and with the new fluid add an additive/conditioner (i have heard that this works in some cases)....
  15. thats pretty cool...i dont think i have ever seen anything like that before.....
  16. could be torque bind.....is this a manual trans or automatic?...either way do a search for "torque bind" or look down the bottom of this thread for the related posts.....how many miles?
  17. maybe pull a plug and see what it looks like......
  18. ive bought many things for my 96' legacy off of http://www.autopartswarehouse.com very good prices never any problems and fast shipping...
  19. if you can get a set of manifold gauges....its not really a good idea to use those kits because you have no way of knowing the high side pressure.....http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=92649
  20. yes i believe there is a cluster there of 3 realys (main relay, fuel pump relay, sub fan#2 relay(if you have A/C)....i have chased problems up the wall because subaru decided to mount every other of the 5 A/C/Fan relays under the hood and this one under the dash... ....pick up a haynes manual....very helpful
  21. would like a "humming sound" be the noise....hum hum hum hum hum hum.....if you have no smells,no vibrations, no visable damage than im going to say yes chances are that it is your tires....
  22. it prob. wouldnt hurt to do the upper and lower rad. hoses while the system is drained.....especially if any of the seals are leaking....(my cam seal was leaking pretty bad and my lower hose was swelled up like a sausage)
  23. yeah i hear ya....i lowered mine and i love the way it looks but whenever i have to go off road i constantly hear my exhaust scrapping and such and kind of regret doing it.....
