  1. Thanks for sharing - I've always wanted a FT4WD T-Coupe. Plus, now I know what the elusive RX I is; as opposed to the RX II (EA82). I also noticed a heading that referenced the LSD (and it does have the D/R in it - 4SPD[?]) Anyhow, I just wanted to say - this car is AWESOME and that I want it really bad. Let's buy one from the JDM, import it here and use it as a flagship car for the USMB We can share it.
  2. HAHA - I hear that at this altitude a lift will improve 1/4 mile times.
  3. I am going to put a new transmission x-member on my wagon. The EA82 x-member that is stock for this transmission is a little too narrow for the EA81 mounting points. I am curious what everyone else does. I will have a shop hone the holes on both ends outward to the correct width, then have them grind/modify the plates that the x-member mounts to so that everything fits flush. By the way, what are those plates called - they hold the rear end of the leading rods (?). Anyhow, I'm mostly interested in what all-y'all are doing to solve this issue.
  4. Dunno. I remember one time I read someone say that they were taking a look at an RX kit for their Gen II Brat - I think they let the idea go because it wasn't very close to fitting; I suppose it was more modification than it was worth. I think it would be pretty sweet, but on the other-hand they do lack power stock, so I hope that's a point that you want to address as well!
  5. LOL. I think he's just pointing out that anyone w/ an EA can double their HP w/ an EJ. I off-road a turbo. I love it. W/ the lower compression ratio and not boosting, you definately are making less power & torque then the NA's. However, when you are boosting you are making a lot of power (IIRC, EA81T is rated @ 127HP and ~9#TQ). I personally like to hit things w/ some speed and throttle. I would say that a D/R is a must for the turbo's and offroading. I think it's a blast.
  6. IIRC, there have been some EA81 front air dams mentioned on the board (search it if you haven't), I remember coming across some pictures also.
  7. That's awesome and I really want one. [i felt compelled to say it.] Congrat.s on an awesome brushguard/pushbar!
  8. Probably the best I know of . . . I'm considering doing an EJ22. How easy (I've never swapped an engine) supposing I have a donor car. Asside from the adaptor plate, what should I budget for? Any idea how much I could expect to spend asside from the donor/adaptor?
  9. Looks awesome, Will. Congratulations on an awesome job. [That lever is the Hi/Lo selector for the FT4WD D/R transmisson - damn I want one.]
  10. ^Ditto^ What are you using your roof-scoop for? (looks good)
  11. Great video! Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
  12. First off, I've never seen pic.s of the Vortex decals --> (got photos?) Secondly, You could have them made easilly and relatively inexpensively if you have the design for them.
  13. I believe it is beneficial in deep snow. Last winter I took my wagon snowbogging w/ 2 Toyota rigs (one w/ a rear locker). After a certain point, we parked the two lesser rigs and piled into the lock'd Toy - it was unstoppable.
  14. I have a 4/3 on my wagon. The radius rods are 3" long. For a 27" tire, a little trimming on the front wheel well is necessary infront of and behind the wheel itself. If you follow the link in my sig, there is a picture of the minor trim-job. Rear tire will fit no prob.
  15. My dream rally-x Brat is an EJ engine (90s-current) w/ a dual range FT4WD gearbox. I think that this drivetrain in a Brat (w/ suspension and brake upgrades) would be impressive. Just my 2¢
  16. I saw a Dodge Rampage 2 days ago in traffic w/ 2 Brat Jump Seats mounted (somehow) w/out the head rests or slider for them. I didn't see how they were fixed in. I did a double take and had to check that they were Subaru ones by looking over my shoulder at the ones in my Brat.
  17. Are there any photos of the EA81 RX? (RX/1)
  18. 1990 - I am wondering what the value/demand for a FWD MT is ? Thanks,
  19. I was speeding through a road construction area at night (ignoring the detour signs) and I flew the Brat a good ways. I was really suprised at how excellently the car took it. I expected that I would do it once and say, now I don't want to break my car; don't do it again. I'm adicted to jumping the Brat, it just encourages me to turn it into a rally machine more.
  20. rear handbrakes have been discussed on the board a number of times (search) I recall something about a nissan(?) brake caliper that fit w/ a e.brake control. I don't know anything about the safety issues involved. How fast do you plan on doing this? (on gravel, pavement, ?) I've found the front handbrake useless -- except for burnouts and various off-road manuvering. Some people have setups where they use 2 handbrake levers to control both left and right front brakes independently. What model Subaru are you planning to try to flip w/ independent hanbrake controls? As for the rear e.brake design, I've pondered using the EA81 Hill-Holder to actuate both rear brakes. First, the brake lines would need to be reworked to attach both rears to the HH and the front brakes to the two corresponding points. Remove the cable between the clutch and HH, then set up a handle-operated cable attached to the HH. In the event of a rear e.brake useage, the driver would pull the handle, punch the brake (enough) to actuate the HH going to the rear brakes; disengage the lever to release brakes. This is elaborate and probably not worth it, but it would be cool to see, and might prove to be effective. Warning: This is untested and possibly unsafe for street driving.
  21. It sounds like a great plan to me. Any ballpark pricing for something like this? Only problem that I can see with this setup is that I'm broke.
  22. I'd say JunkYard is your best if not only bet. You could definately have stickers made of a badge if you wanted to settle for that.
  23. Does anyone have a ball-park estimate for an EJ swap into the EA model? I'm considering this for my Brat (budget rally project). Aside from the engine-transmission adaptor, what does it cost for an EJ engine[harness, etc.] and how hard is it to install in an EA?
  24. Andrew, it's straight forward. If you have trouble and need a hand, let me know I'll be free for the day shortly. P.S.:: I want to see the wagon, duder.
