Rustproofing the subaru
bratman18 replied to alexsf's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWash very well, often, especially during and soon after the winter months. Also oil the underbody!! And holes, seams, and cracks and crevices. I use NAPA brand chain and cable lube, it spreads and soaks in very well.

WRX ..Worst Car to Insure
bratman18 replied to Bucky92's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI saw this on another forum. This is why I love my Forester XT so much!!! It will go really fast, but the insurance is the same or a little less than my 2000 RS was!!!

Thanks!! Yeah it goes real good, and handles awesome with the WRX struts/STi springs combo. And no more wheelies when I gun it!! I will soon be going stage 1 for now, and then in the spring, I have a set of Forester STi wheels being held for me, and I'll get a down pipe and go stage 2!!! Can't wait

One of these things is not like the other.
Bearings are easy to replace. I don't have the special tool, but I just use a hammer and punch, it's always worked for me

Any good 2.5's?
bratman18 replied to eppoh's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTo answer the original question, the newer turbo 2.5's are pretty solid motors. The ones in the Bajas and the Legacy GT's have a problem with the main bearing slowly going, which usually causes the turbo to fail first and then later on the bearing finally goes. As for the N/A 2.5's, yes they have hg issues. And I have seen MANY go at 50k and also see MANY go at 70k, so it's the fact that you never know when they are gonna start leaking that sucks!! A HG failure at 50k miles on a Subaru would rub me the wrong way, and it did!! I won't own another. I took the gamble and lost. Yes they aren't hard to change, if you have the tools and know-how, but if you don't, it's very expensive.

Now I got WRX struts with STi springs!! It sits a lot lower and handles a lot better!! It also doesn't squat so much in the back when you get on it. I'll get more pics when my wife gets back from Arizona with the camera!!

Backwoodsboy's ROUGH-TERRAIN engine hoist
That's cool. I have a friend that made a custom lift arm on the front of his 96 GMC diesel pick up. It hooks up to the plow gear and works great.
