  1. i was thinking about mounting a stereo in the head liner of my rx when i get it back on the road. that way, i can leave the center console open for anything else i might need. might end up doing it soon i hope.
  2. go for a set of new pioneer speakers. take your car to an audio shop and have em rewire the car for new speakers. that is, if your willing to spend a few $ and have an aftermarket stereo. it will be worth it.
  3. cpngrats, you found the heater core. yeah, ive noticed that shallow syereo pockets are a rather common issue with the old school cars. be creative, besides, those universal mounting brackets never look good.
  4. i was going to suggest a clogged radiator, part of the tcooling issues i had in my rx, but now i have head gasket issues, i think.
  5. also look into o-ringing the cylinders and port and polish the heads as well as a three angle valve job. should help out a bit the o-ringing should keep the head gaskets from blowing out unless you go outta your way to do so. im getting my first engine completely worked over by a shop that builds race winning engines.
  6. whats the ratio on the sti diff and the rx diff? is the ring and pinion interchangable?
  7. clear.... corners.....must....have..... ...need.....towel..
  8. that rs is nice, mine will be nice again once i save up a bit.
  9. keep us posted, id like to see howwell this works for the ea82t engines.
  10. gary, i can help you out with some of your body work, we can talk when you get the pistons.
  11. i cut out the rust in the rear fenders, sanded out any remaining rust, covered the entire area including hte wheel well with rubber under caoting, the pop riveted aluminum sheet metal over the holes and even reconstructed the shape to the fenders, then wen crazy with the rubber coating to make sure that water and moisture never see that area again. i think the rubber finally got to be about 1/4" thick around the rust prone bits. and thats the rubber spray that doesnt build up easily. when in doubt, overkill. needless to say, im going to get it prefessionally fixed one day when i can save to money to do it, and once its back on the road.
  12. almost looks like youd need an act of god to get that outta there. or maybe just some good detailing.
  13. yup, theys the same thing, as well as i think vf4 and vf2, or someting like that. both of the engines i had in my rx had a vf4 turbo bolted to em when i got em. from what ive been told, its pretty much the same turbo.
  14. id like to find a way to make the 2wd mode from fwd into rwd. i wonder if its possible
  15. those seats look like the set that are in my 86 rx. well, maybe just in better shape as mine are nearly 20 years old and had been neglected for like 7 years.
  16. i think that is just a $0.47 resistor that the plug some wires into and say its a tuning chip. what it does is it makes the ecu think that it is running lean and thus adds more fuel. it also has a tendancy to fry the maf and ecu. at least thats what people have said, a lot. its a waste of money.
  17. where the hell did you find em for that price?!? the cheapest ive seen was $175 for the impreza and $195 for the rx. i must know, i finally gota job, and want to start burning holes in my pockets.
  18. you will feel better once you have hunted down the person that did that. i bet the car will run better too. hmm, sounds like it might have jarred the allignment bits from the impact, yo should get it up on a jack and take a cose look at the ront suspension on both sides, also take a look at the front x-member and frame. hopefully, its not too bad. good luck.
  19. welcome to the forums, your not the only one with head gasket issues. mine has started doing the coolant flavored smoke screen everytime i run it.
  20. subarubrat, you gotta come up to frederick sometime, im planning a suby meet here, im thinking there are a lot of things i could learn from talking to you. as for the idea of twin turbos, if you want to do it, do your homework before you ever even touch a screwdriver.
  21. (slight hijack)hey tbird man, your in boone, does the theme park tweetsie railroad still exist? i used to go there as a child. and yes, remote turbos will work, thyere is no reason that they wont, unless you dont use the right turbo for the application.
  22. dag, i just noticed, a few of you guys live near my grandmother in the blue ridge mountains. she is right off the blue ridge parkway in fancy gap va. we should gt together next time i manage to make it down that way. id love to see a turboed flat 6 that isnt in a porshe. hopefully, ill be able to drive my rx next time i have a chance to get down that way again. hell, maybe ill even come up with a remote turbo on my car, just cause i can, grantd, i have got to save up money just to get the 90k service for te impreza before i can have fun. but once i get things underway, i am going to make a lot of progress on my rx, and hopefully gt my engine built up.
  23. without inspiration, whats the point, i though this site wa here to voice opinions and come up witn new ideas. im all about getting contrasting opinions, but whats the point of a forum if every time some one says "what it?" you tell em to basically shut it? ive come up with a lot of ideas about my own cars from other people speculaing about things. lets all try to keep an open mind. id hate to see this site turn into another i-club or nasioc where childish peaple run rampant and good ideas go unheard. just had to go ranting, dont mind me. peace tim
  24. tbird man, you are my hero. there is no problem running turbos in the rear from what ive heard and from people that ive talked to. like said in a few places, as long as you plan things out first and do your homework, there is no reason that this wouldnt work. besides, the exhaust doesnt loos that much heat bytime it reaches the tail pipe. if you dont beleive me, look at my rear bumper cover on my impreza, its melted a bit from contact with the exhaust tip. ive seen n/a cars with holes burned into the bumpers, so it does still hold quite a bit of heat. another benefit of remote mounting is tht you can have a totally seperat oil and coolant source for the turbo, so if the engine craps out, the turbo wont go along with it.you could get external oil coolers and a small radiator and run em with electric pumps and seperate resiviors.
  25. #1 is a dohicky and #2 is a thingamjig. yeah. #1 looks like the purge solinoid. i have no idea about #2
