  1. nice car....beat them up a little on the price but otherwise go for it. Ask if they know when the timeing belt/waterpump was last done. If not plan on that expense just as a PM measure (about $400 for a shop to do)
  2. can somebody tell me if this car 94 impreza is awd or FWD and if it is 5sp or auto. I looked on josh's site but couldn't find the info..... might have missed it but ???? If you have an active carfax that would be the best case scenerio but otherwise just the info I mentioned above is good too. if you do have a carfax send ti to subeman at aol dot com and put carfax in the subject 94 impreza JF1GC2242RB533668 TIA!
  3. you might need to talk to these folks.... http://www.kennedyeng.com/ they do vanagon conversions with subaru engines. They put out a really good product too! Good luck.
  4. this may sound dumb but did you make sure the TC was engaged into the transmission correctly and did you remember to put the bolts from the TC into the flex plate on the back of the engine.
  5. I have been seeing those things around lately. Mostly they are mitsubishi and I forget what the other kind is but I see them on farms a lot lately. I don't know about up north or out west but I wonder if you could get a farm tag for it then you could drive it on the road (farm trucks in PA get a sticker on a fender, a special license plate and a one time registration fee....and there is no inspection either) Maybe you could get away with putting one of those SMV triangles on the back and driving it on the road (max speed you are allowed to do is 25 with an SMV) hmmmm thinking.
  6. Carry some wood to put a jack on if you do get stuck. Maybe a few extra pieces to put under the tires to help you ramp out of the ruts you might get yourself buried in. Is the Forester stiick or auto.? Get a good jack (small floor one) don't rely on the factory jack to bail you out. Air down too!
  7. there is no reason why they wouldn't inspect your car without the pa reg. BUT you will NOT get a sticker on the car though. If you are doing it so you can see what it needs etc. there shouldn't be a problem (it won't be free) but part of the "real" inspection is that the paperwork is to be verified with the vin and that you have valid insurance. This is one of the first steps in doing an inspection. Just so you know.... when you go to the notary to get your PA paperwork you will need to have the car with you so that the notary person can physically verify your vin to your paperwork. Hope this helps you out.... FWIW, I have an inspection license BTW.
  8. OK let me rephrase what I was trying to say before.... atleast Toyota did/is doing somthing about their problem... Ben is right about the dpereciation of the GM cars though... Maybe look for a used/lease return one and save a few bucks?
  9. I was at a customers house yesterday dropping off a new tractor and in his driveway was a vibe AWD. He had replaced the tires with someting else (orig tires were worn out) but the thing is he put bigger tires on it. I mean bigger! It really looked bada$$ to be honest with you. Also, considering where he lived (NE of reading PA in the sticks) I'm sure that AWD system gets a good work out every winter. If you could buy the vibe AWD (or matrix for that matter) with a stickshift insted of the autobox.... I would consider it in a heartbeat. Atleast they can put an engine together without it blowing HG's (yea I'm still a little bitter about that one) Also I must admit....if I lived down south (anywhere it really doesn't snow or ice too much) I most likely wouldn't own a soob. I would most likely be found in a VW.
  10. I wonder aobut the people that have their cars there for svc. or HG's etc. Could you imagine if they shut the place down and your motor was on the floor half apart? Lawsuit time. I hate to see the soob dealers go under...especially when the people there are nice... I wonder if the bank will liquidate the cars at a highly discounted price? hmmmmmmmmm
  11. if you can come up with a used tire that is the correct diameter for you appliclation i have 16" wheel you could borrow for a week or so...then you would have a full size spare. I think 99OBW's use a 15" wheel but if you took my 16" and got a used tire that would be close in size that would be better than a "doughnut" spare. You can get used tires out at the country tire barn (salunga exit of 283) for $25 mounted. If you haven't noticed i am up the road in Akron. Let me know if you want to borrow the wheel. EDIT: if your car has a 205-70-15 on it you can put a 215-60-16 and that is darn close to being even in circumfrance...according to the tire guide I used.
  12. on my street (5 block distance) there is a baja, a forester, my obs and xt, an older impreza sport wagon, and a new legacy (migth be a turbo didn't look close enough yet)
  13. my question is...how good is your frame? would hate to see someone hook onto those nice d rings and yank your bumper off.
  14. that is 50 cent... (he is a rapper) don't you listen to rap at all?
  15. a 96 with a 2.2 and a 5 speed.... i would do it in a heartbeat! Put me down for heck yeah!
  16. since your car is older (they don't do this on the newer ones) there is a tag on the rear diff that most likely will be all crusty dirty but if you clean it gently it tells you the ratio. If you have a 92 and you are buying a part from a 92 (if i read this right) thne where is the difference? The only thing I can think of is if one of the cars is a turbo.... EDIT: I read it totally worng....what year is YOUR car?
  17. So does that mean that if you locked yourself in the garage with the car running it won't kill you???? There I go again thinking outloud... Congrats on passing though. What would have happened if they tried to hook up to that JDM computer? would it have worked or would you have been red flagged for a non US component?
  18. seem like a lot of money for an entry level car. How much is that in USD and what is so special about an X with the SE package?
  19. totally cool! is it stick? Do you like replacing HG's? just kidding on that one... does it have heated seats? if so you'll love them!
  20. if you have comprehensive I bet they would cover it if it was locked.... unlocked they most likely won't.
  21. dumb question but did you lock it when you left the woods? Reason I ask is I never walk more than 20 yards from my car without locking it... Oh those dam kids from Franklin I bet....
  22. Also, if the trailer is a little heavy you might want to get those rubber things to put in the springs to help level out the car a little too. You can't see sh#% at night if your headlights are up in the trees. i vote also for the one trip thing.
