New Water Pump + Suprizes (HELP!)
If a machanic is only going to charge $100 and the pump is going to be $50, that mechanic is either really cheap or dose not know much work is involved. Yes the main pully dose need to come off along with the timing belt covers and the timing belts. The common bolt head sizes are 8mm 10mm 12mm 14mm 17mm 19mm 22mm.

It could be the starter contacts or the battery cable. Test them out.

Only the 4wds had the adjustable torsion bar.

Legacy GT stuff vs. Outback stuff
The outback struts are longer the springs maybe longer too. If you put GT stuff in, you would lower your ride height. If you are looking for better struts, KYB makes some for the Outback. I'm not sure about better springs. Also look into a bigger rear swaybar. The outback has the largest stock ones so you would need to go aftermarket to get a bigger one.

head generations....false?
It looks like the techs at your dealership were not paying attention at update school. There are differences in the heads, however none of them address the crack between the valves. Here's the TSB that covers that issue. Http://home.comcast.net/~c.moe/heads.pdf The crack issue that is addressed by the different generation heads is the crack that develops in the exhaust port where the runners meet. This is the one were coolant will drip from the head, into the exhaust header. why must I repeat this every few months? why can't people search for this info.

Ea82 and EA81 mid pipes...
Well there are differences in just the different EA81 and EA82 midpipes I would have to say no they are not the same. You'll probably just have to find one that will fit what you need.

I picked up a used whiteline swaybar and endlinks from scrapdaddytatum and I finally got around to installing it tonight and wow what a difference. My Legacy came with a 14mm then about a year ago I replace it with a 18mm from an 97 outback and I thought that was impressive but with this 22mm and firmmer endlinks it's like another world. He ment the shoes for the back not the pads for the front and yes all 4 are the same.

The one down there is on a Saturday, the one up here is on Sunday. Mapquest estimates a 7.5hr drive at roughly 500miles. So If I left right after work on Friday night I would be there sometime between midnight and 1:00am. I could run my laps and do my work assignment then take right off and come back, get a good night sleep and run again on the Sunday, my class on sunday should be in the afternoon so I could sleep in a little. Now I just need to get my boss to caugh up a bonus check and I could pull this off.:cool:

As much as Stainless Steel likes to shrink and distort when welded I would do instead would be to take some 3/32 or maybe 1/8 diameter stainless welding rod and wrap it around one time then have the welder stitch it to the tube.

You may need the plastic ring that goes in the center of the wheel to get them to fit the back.

Carburetion for ej22
The EJ22 was never sold with a carubretor much less two of them. If you do go in that direction you will also need to come up with an ignition system since the ECU controls that as well. Some board members have swaped the EJ22 into their older Subarus, they have kept the original fuel injection and have been pleased with the results. Kennedy Engineering who dose make an adapter plate to mate an EJ22 to a VW transaxle can also provide wiring information for the EJ22. http://www.kennedyeng.com/

You need the special socket.

Cam tower leak
Yes you want to use Anaerobic sealant when doing this. Also put some done in the recess where the o-ring goes. That will help hold it in place. Do not use a bigger o-ring that will make things worse.

ea71 engine questions
A little bit of Up and down play is normal, it's the front to back and side to side play that you have to worrie about. To me is sounds like a bad ignition module or one of the wires connected to it. Dose this hatch have a tac in the gage cluster? If so, watch it while cranking the engine over, if the module is working the needle should bounce a little.
