  1. I believe i saw a EA82 wagon in the TRuman Show. I had to be a Subaru, he drove it right to the ocean, on the sand, when that chick was trying to tell Truman that it was all fake. It had a stock rack, and sun roof, it was too dark to be certain...but the headlights and taillights looked like a EA82. I think it was a GL. OK, so what...I'm bored. [HTi]Johnson
  2. Hey Lukas, why did you put it away for the winter? Is it because of they salt the roads there?
  3. OOOH!! Pretty turbo. I was thinking of TRYING to make an equal length crossover pipe...out of 1.5" tube of .095 wall...so that makes it likea little smaller than 1.375"(1 and 3/8th inch) [HTi]Johnson EDIT: Oh yeah, the reason I can't make it bigger is because of my resources...everything I have access to is for some heavy duty tube. (I work for an Ornamental Iron company:-p)
  4. Hey they won't budge that should mean no leaks? Don't fix what's not broken . Yeah...well...won't budge? They are made of steel...i'm sure they can take a beating. I'd pry them off. Yeah EA81s only have two bolts. Maybe some PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil around the covers? [HTi]Johnson
  5. How big is the I.D. (Inside Diameter) of a stock crossover pipe? and what would be the perfect size for a happy medium...you know...not too laggy and pretty good topend? [HTi]Johnson
  6. If this hasn't been posted in Either USRM - Repair & Mod or Auto Tech it should be. [HTi]Johnson
  7. How think is the oil you put in there? And what brand? I have heard, and done myself, that you can put 1/2 quart of ATF or Marvel's Mystery oil in there...ATF worked for me, I tried Marvel's before...to no avail. [HTi]Johnson
  8. Isn't there two fuel filters? One in the engine bay and one in front of the rear passenger tire? [HTi]Johnson
  9. I'd say all of the same engine class...that's what I think. You know EA81 to EA81, EA82 to EA82, maybe even EA82 to EA81 or vice-versa. [HTi]Johnson
  10. I'd say the engine just needs to be resealed(Valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, water pump and gasket, oil pump and gasket) not hard to do yourself. You are probably dripping oil from the front, if so, It's probably the oil pump seal or "Mickey Mouse Gasket" because it looks like mickey mouse's head. As for the tranny? How's the gear oil look? You said the clutch is slipping? Could that be why it kinda grinds when you put it in reverse. Or could the idle be too high? I wouldn't be dead set on getting a rebuilt engine/tranny just yet. If it was me. I would replace the gear oil in the tranny. Pull the engine and reseal it, and replace the water and oil pump...or have it done if time/space do not allow for yourself to do it. When the engine is pulled, i'd get a new clutch pack (Pressure plate, clutch, and pilot bearing) and get the flywheel turned or a new(ish) one. LIke from the junkyard...or even a fellow board member. Then I'd put it all back together and see if it still has the reverse problem. Welcome to the boards and we're glad to have you join.! Don't be afraid of asking what you might think are "Noob" questions. I ask them all the time, they don't seem to mind. [HTi]Johnson
  11. Well, to neutralize it, you need to pour baking soda on it...this will neutralize it, but probably make a mess. :-\ [HTi]Johnson
  12. What do you mean "the details of the accident are fuzzy"?
  13. I'm pretty sure he didn't tire the load to the coil. You know the fan doesn;t run when the car is off. He probably just ran some wires from the plug that goes into the switch to a ground. So when the car is on the fan is. Doesn't the thermo switch on EA81s just close a ground when it gets to temp? [HTi]Johnson
  14. yeah, disconnect the fan...hook up a multimeter or a continuity tester and let the car warm up. Keep an eye the temp guage, and if the switch doesn't produce continuity somewhere between the midrange and right before the red, I'd say it's bad. Oh yeah, there is no problem to "hardwiring" your fan. But you should rig a switch, inside the car, so you can turn it off before you enter high water...if it is on when you submerse it, say goodbye to you fan and probably radiator. [HTi]Johnson
  15. You know what? I have no clue if it has been done, or the setbacks...I do know that you should do it! That'd be sweet! [HTi]Johnson
  16. Fuel filters...replace them and check for Vacuum leaks. THere are two, one in the engine bay and one in front of the rear passenger tire by the fuel pump, on top of a plate. [HTi]Johnson
  17. I would think so...because I swapped a 5spd D/R into my GL-10 that WAS an automatic...I didn't do anything with the ECU. [HTi]Johnson
  18. Yeah I believe the body parts are the same... all a Loyale is, is a Gl-10 without all the spiffy gadgets like power locks, windows, and etc. But the wiring is there for it all. Someone tell me if I am wrong at all. So I can learn. [HTi]Johnson
  19. LOOK THE WRX Brat is making babies with the other one!...That's how the WRX Brat was made.
  20. Hello Critical Max. I live in Eugene. And I am advised not to goto that Subaru mechanic for much, if any subaru work. What kind of work have you had done and how much did he charge ya. I bought a Subaru Wagon from a guy that had automatic tranny problems...he said that Gary fixed it once...but the problems came back. When I bought the car...i ended up putting a 4spd Dual Range in there...that requires a 3.9 Differential gearing...and to my suprise, the diff that the auto tranny was hooked up to was a 3.9...the diff that the Auto tranny was supposed to be hooked up to was a 3.7.... So that means in 4wd when the 3.9 Diff was hooked up to the Auto tranny, that was supposed to have a 3.7, the 3.9 Diff would try to spin the output shaft faster than the engine is...that lead to the repeated tranny breakage. Why was there a 3.9 Diff hooked up to a 3.7 Auto Tranny? I could only speculate why a "Subaru Specialist" would let the slide by. As for help in Eugene? I have a spare alternator...it's a green band..I think that's 30 amps. I'll PM you with my info. [HTi]Johnson
  21. Cold air is denser air. :-p The denser the air, the more fuel can be mixed with it. The bigger the explosion is. But, how bad does it run with "warm" air. My brain just died...i was gunna ask some more questions...but I just blanked out...damn A.D.D. [HTi]Johnson
  22. Hello. I have done the 3at to spd D/R swap in my 1987 GL-10 Turbo. Do I have to do anything to the computer to tell it it doesn't have an automatic anymore.? THanks, [HTi]Johnson
  23. You might have a blown head gasket:-\...or one starting to blow. I think this because you've replaced all the crucial, first to go parts, and it still does this. What can happen is the gasket blows between the cylinder and the water jacket on the head/block...therefore letting hot exhaust gases into the water system. When you open your radiator cap when it runs...like just began to run, can you see bubbles in the radiator? Keep us posted. [HTi]Johnson
  24. What is the screw thing on the HOT Wire maf....to the left of the wire plugin? And how much should I expect to pay for a new Disty? Thanks, [HTi]Johnson
  25. yeah, Do a swap from 3at to 5speed. your engine's power would be used more efficiently. the time it takes depends on your skills. For parts...the easiest would be to get a donor parts car. Second easiest...find someone who wants to get rid of a car and is cool enough to pull all the parts for you (Thanks XSNRG A.K.A. MARK:drunk:). And third...junkyards..but every single person I dealt with in a junkyard has been an A-HOLE. [HTi]Johnson P.S. DON"T BE afraid to ask questions...they'll answer...i mean..they still answer my questions...they're very tolerant.
