  1. Now the charge light comes on at the dashboard and a voltmeter measures the voltage across + and - at the battery to be an even 12, not 13.8....AND when we put the connector from the plus onto the back of the alternator its the same thing just plain old 12.
  2. Heres a site I refer to sometimes. http://www.artsautomotive.com/axle_story.htm I havent actually rebooted an axle before. I always seem to have used ones around or the one that I need to replace is a lifetime warranty axle.
  3. Theres a guy here in down named Denny that runs around in an 83 TurboWagon with these running some pretty big tires. He too mounted them himself. Im almost sure you could find VW Baja Bug tires that are narrow enough to make this worth doing and still look kindof cool.
  4. How do you do this and what is involved for parts? Car is an 81 GL Wagon, ea81 with ext VR and want to move to the more commonly available parts....maybe even xt6 alternator.
  5. Moving to new gen now that the basics are answered and its getting into some detailed questions.
  6. The two I want...I would like in Gold or Black if you are looking for more people that want Gold.
  7. That might just be the modulator valve. Pull the air line going to the right side of the trans off and see if fluid comes out of it (even just a little). If it does, the modulator is bad and you need a $15 part that only threads in and takes all of 2 minutes to change yourself.
  8. A little nuts, indeed. Situation involves a divorce for both me and my girlfriend and wanting to get out of Iowa. A fresh start in a new but somewhat familiar city was the choice. I have a part time job I will love.
  9. Sorry dude that may be too far gone to save. Where in Iowa? If its Coralville/Iowa City or Des Moines we may have an "expert" on here that could tell you whether or not its worth it or even able to be saved. Me, or McBrat.
  10. Thanks, I am going to be a lot further south than Sioux Falls but the offer is truly appreciated!
  11. But if you do what Calebz suggests on the FT4wd 5spd you need custom axles. CV of Ocala makes good ones but $120 each. I would go with a 5 over a 4spd but you need a different rear driveshaft setup, the 4spd is more of a bolt in swap. The 4spd's seem to have synchro problems that the 5's don't. Id be sure to avoid the 82 and older 4 speed as its geared lower in a gear or two and wouldn't be as good for you.
  12. Theres really no need to unbolt the exhaust but the motor mount nuts should be removed and then use a hoist to lift the engine until the top of the y-pipe hits the crossmember. 1/4" wobble with extensions and a #3 philips screwdriver helps makes this job easier. DO NOT OVERTORQUE and get the surface REALLY clean to insure the torque is right. No RTV just cork gasket.
  13. Many of you know that I am going to move to Denver just shy of August 1st. In preparation I am going to drive over to Denver Saturday Morning and get there Saturday evening (7/10/04) and then return Tuesday afternoon/evening. If anybody currently living in Denver would be up to meeting up and showing me and my girlfriend the in's and outs of the city, meet up to grab a bite to eat, etc, that would be great. We will be looking for employment and a rental property on this trip so if you have any leads or tips please share. If you don't mind helping unload a moving truck around July 30th-Aug 1 or so that would also be extremely helpful! Some extra hands to help with a washer/dryer, long sectional couch, and a bed would be fantastic. Can pay in pizza and beer/pop/etc for the help! I have to be back in Iowa on Wednesday morning. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
  14. I have 2 Ea81T oil coolers still. $15 plus shipping which is $5.
  15. Another vote for Copper or nothing at all here. No true "goop" just a misting of copper at the very most.
  16. I believe the noise comes out of the radio speakers themselves, and I think its just the front one but I don't know for sure.
  17. Its right next to the fuel pump on a tray. Its found in front of the rear axle assembly bolted to the body.
  18. Cool! Big kudos to you guys. They took some nice pictures and said some nice stuff about you guys vehicles!
  19. You must be the 1st person on USMB to have 1000 + posts and not own a Subaru. Congrats!
  20. Its not normally too loud but they aren't quiet pumps either. I bet it would be noisier if it was trying to push fuel thru a filter thats clogged.
  21. Sounds like a clogged fuel filter (or 2 there are 2 on this car), or the exhaust is plugged up. I would tend to think its the rear fuel filter under the car.

Lots of posts here about Lifts, use the search tool to find them.
  23. Guys it looks to me that he bought the car for his daughter and wants to deliver it on the way back to Seattle. That way he has a ride the rest of the way home. The car doesnt appear to be headed back to the PNW any time soon just good old Nebraska. They salt in Nebraska but he was smart to buy a Legacy with the thicker sheetmetal than the old GL's have. Around here, unless Mick or I own it, all the GL's are bondo or rust filled at best. What a great 1st car this will be.
