  1. Actually Saab and Subaru have that joint little WRX/Saab? So you are already associated with the Sub folks. Good to have you on board. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  2. Are these what your talking about? http://www.rhino-offroad.com/index2/rc/2/3.html These use Honda motors and are kind-of a ready made crawler. Not a competitive crawler, Not good looking, I'll pass Just my .02 Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--the other Rhino http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/products.htm 01 Forester
  3. If I'm understanding the question right, The 4 speed dual range transmission (4 low) would not necessarily have an LSD rear end. The only way to get the LSD in that car is to make a 3.90 diff using the internal components of a 3.7 LSD diff--which was never installed with the 4 speed D/R tranny. Driving in 4wd in tight places. I'm not sure what you mean by tight places, but sharp corners on dry paved roads will force the drive train to bind up. Your 5 speed tranny is tough. Your car will take this abuse but it can't be the best thing for it. Every now and then will not mess anything up but doing this all the time...something some time will break... Your 5 speed tranny does not have the viscous coupling. Side to side is where your going to find the problems... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--4 speed D/R 01 Forester--5 speed S/R
  4. This event was filmed for ESPN, so it will appear on TV as some point down the road...
  5. I'm not sure Subaru really wants these cars to go too far off-road. In my mind, they are set up for gravel and snow. I think Subaru would prefer them to stay there. If Subaru really wanted to capture an off-road market niche, they would sell the D/R tranny in the US. The adjustable suspension is also no longer available. All they really have going for them is great clearance relative to their two wheel drive counter parts. I'd love to see Subaru make a real attempt at producing an off-road capable car again... ...they have done it in the past...
  6. There is counseling available for things like this!!! Please get help soon. Don't put it off or say I can get over it by myself. See a licensed professional as soon as you can. Don't give up! You could be scarred for life!
  7. Miles and company are certainly unique individuals and great Subaru enthusiasts. Welcome to the board. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  8. I think the picture is shown "actual size"
  9. Thanks, Ferret You seem to know everything about my car.... I should just P.M. you next time I have a question Glenn
  10. All of my other cars have an Idiot light telling me the Cruise control is on. On my 01 Forester L, all I can find is the actual on/off switch that lights up. Is there anything on the inst. panel that lights up when the cruise is on? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--never had cruise 01 Forester--cruises!!! ...and the follow up question would be... where is the light located on the dash and how do I get to the bulb to replace it? (the easy way)
  11. My Trooper is famous for this, I replace the pads and it goes away... Could be the pistons mildly seizing up, but re-doing the pads seems to cure/humor it along. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--Now I think about it, this car did it too? 01 Forester--no squeals yet...
  12. I noticed the same thing, about 45 minutes from the "finish line" my tank was above 1/4, by the time I arrived it was below "E". I was shocked how fast it dropped on the last 1/4 of the tank. I rarely run below a quarter tank and didn't realize the gauge dropped so quick on the bottom of the tank. Side note; After I got to St. George, I shut off the car at the Hotel and when I re-started... The Fuel Light was glowing. At least I know it works. I just have a hard time with the gauge reading below "E".
  13. The shiny stuff IS aluminum--it's not a skid plate. All the shiny stuff does is block air to the radiator I may end up drilling some holes in it The grey metal below the shiny stuff is the 1/8" steel plate. It's hard to make out in the pic. It covers the pan and exhaust. It is very similar to McBrats setup only not on a stock Subaru body. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  14. This is the rock crawler that has the modified Subaru STi motor in it. These came from the UROC competition in St. George last weekend. There was much talk of the motor in the crowds. I was suprised how many people were aware it was a Subaru. http://www.pirate4x4.com/gallery/stgeorge05/aar http://www.pirate4x4.com/gallery/stgeorge05/aat I never got a close shot of the motor and was never able to talk with the guy. I do have some video of it in action and it seems like a capable rig.
  15. I'll take a stand for the dealers... I've had real good service from my Subie Dealers here in SLC. They have cut courtesy keys for both of my Subs over the years and were very nice about it. I'd try another dealer if you have any others around. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--Several keys made by dealers over the last 20+ years 01 Forester--two keys made by dealers over the last 2+ years
  16. Took the Forester to St. George for the UROC crawls 300 miles each way... last fall I got 21 down and 23 back This trip I got 21.5 down and 28.5 back Why??? No mystery here...90-105mph down had one major freakin tail wind on the return trip. Trip notes; Tank was full when I left and by mile 308 the gauge was reading below/touching the empty line :-\ ...and no fuel light on? I was not sure if I was going to make it or not. I made it last time with gas to spare? When I filled up the car took 13.5 gal. Tank claims to hold 15.9 gal. Light is suppose to come on around 2.5gal remaining so no mystery there. I'm not comfortable driving the car when the gauge is below empty. Anyone else familiar with how far down the gauge goes before the fuel light comes on and just how far the needle goes down before your in trouble? Long rambling thread with no real point... Other than I got real bad mileage and real good mileage all in one trip. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  17. Couldn't get the video to work but... Your air filter is totally exposed I'm not sure how you'd go about protecting it as is For muddin you'd be miles ahead with a stock setup! Pics are great! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  18. 1/8th" steel mounted to the original rear mounts. The front is attached to my front radiator support frame. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2385&sort=1&cat=500&page=2 This is the only pic I could find. The actual plate is not reinforced (yet?). I suspect it would bend if hit. I look at the skid plate as more of a curb pealer. It will tell me if I need to re-evaluate my approach. If I reinforced it, I could set the car on it with out damage but not until. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--Steel skid plate no push bar! 01 Forester--plastic skid plate and plastic push bar!!!
  19. I fish mouthed every tube on the buggy with a HF 4.5" angle grinder. It did the job but gave up the ghost shortly there after... HF replaced it for a new one with out a question! I'm now on my third grinder...hey, they just keep replacing them!!! My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  20. George, Welcome to the board, Anything can be lifted. Fewer of the newer Subies are currently lifted but, I think that's just a function of time. Most of the hurtles to lifting newer Subies have been addressed and are now being perfected!!! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  21. I'm not really sure it would matter based on elevation, the car should be set up to run at it's point of sale and the computer should compensate for everything else. I'd say it's probably just a simple matter of personal preference... Oh ya, WELCOME TO THE BOARD! My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--will be spending it's golden years at 8000 to 9500 ft. 01 Forester--runs between 4500 - 8000 ft regularly.

  23. Chopped top? Sand Subie? You gotta fininsh this.... That would be just plain cool!!! Please reconsider Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  24. Brian, If if won't clear 29's... it's too low! Glenn,
  25. That is really a bummer :-\ but from your description it sounds like every other WRX on the road. A pic might help further identify exactly what his car looked like as opposed to every other modified WRX. I'm assuming it was insured? We wish him well. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--usually has key in ignition 01 Forester--factory alarm
