  1. Take a look in the brochure section and you should be able to see when it came in? http://www.usmb.net/gallery/album15 Anyone else... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

    BYB skid plate?

Once you have the lift done, and know where everything is going to be, then you can custom fab something. I'm using a custom bent sheet of 1/8 steel mounted to the frame in front and to the old skid plate mounts in back. I don't think it will support the entire weight of the car on top of a rock but it will let me know that I need to backoff! I look at my skid plate as more of a "curb pealer". If I hear it, I'm getting in to a problem area and need to re-assess my approach. Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--1/8 steel skid plate  01 Forester--plastic skid plate

    BYB skid plate?

I don't know but... That would make sence because the skid plate is attached to the crossmember and the body too. So...if you lift the body in relation to the crossmember... You would need the put a spacer between the body and the front of the skid plate to make it match like it did before the lift. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  4. Absolutely correct!!! I have had people from the state commission tell me that. They don't want the older cars on the road. I can't afford to keep them happy, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  5. Good Post, I have always wondered when 4wd began with Subarus too? Did the 75's have the DR tranny or was it just 4 hi? If not when did the DR begin? When was the last year of 2wd for Subaru? ....I take Subaru Trivia for $30...."Alex" (wonder if Ken Jennings would know)
  6. I believe genetically speaking we are all very close to pigs too! ...and getting closer all the time Oh, ya... GAS will work just fine to get the sticky stuff off the car/emblem too!
  7. On my 82 GL, I had the caliper seize up on me after I changed pads. It was the exact same senario as you...only the rotor was glowing orange and the silicone was on fire!!! I pulled the thing back apart and scraped the pads like you would with "burned toast". Put them back on and have never had a problem since. Of course now days, I check my brakes around the neighborhood for a few days before I put the car "back in service". Still have the same rotors up front and that happend 20 years ago!!!. As long as your calipers will slowly move in and out, I think your ok. Good Luck Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--original rotors 01 Forester --me too
  8. Can't help you on this one but.... Welcome the the board Henry! Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--leaks oil everywhere 01 Forester--better not start leaking...!
  9. The Foresters have ABS. How is ABS affected by tire size? Seems to me if the tires are all the same size it would be the same to the computer. Other than the computer would think you were going slightly slower than you actually were? Can someone explain?
  10. It looks kinda frowny in the first pic... It looks much happier now you fixed it! If I had two cars like that, I'd only register one! Looks good, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  11. We have similar laws here but you also can't put a larger motor in the vehicle than it had originally. My Trooper had a 4 and a 6 available when it was made but according to Utah law, I'd get hung up if I put a 6 in my Trooper that came with the 4 Grumble, Grumble Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester Many other cars...
  12. I struggled a bit with the bracket too. The original system was designed to pull two cables and still allow adjustment on that center bolt (for tightning up the EBrake). When you try to pull one cable you run into a world of problems. What I ended up doing is using two of the original cable brackets coupled together but hindged in the center. This allows an even pulling of one cable without effecting the other cable. Ya...I could have just welded two brackets together but there are some problems with that too. You end up losing tension on the first brake cable when you pull the second because of a teter-totter effect. The net result of using two brackets is it allows me endless adjustments without bending or stressing the adjustment rod. If you wanted it to be non adjustable then it would be easy to trim one of the original cable brackets to work with one cable and pull straight on to the cable. For what that's worth...
  13. Call them what you will, They are commonly known as Turbines. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7976064847&category=43954 Not real popular these days but big in the late 70's early 80's.
  14. OK, It was a teaser. I didn't put any details on purpose... I just wanted to see who would pick up on what? Yes, they are functional E-brakes, however this is not the intended purpose. If they were to function as E-bakes only, I would have left them in the original configuration. Because the original configuration is not quite as obnoxious. As for one being a front and one being a rear, nope both are front. What's the point? I call it Traction Control With the rear locked, (welded diff) traction & wheel slip, in the back is not a problem. However Subarus have no easily available way to "Lock" or even limit the front wheels. With Subaru having the rare feature of front wheel park brakes, you have the unique opportunity to split the brake lines and control the brakes/wheels independently... The Idea; by splitting the park brake, one can now control the amount of slip to a given wheel, putting traction where you want it not where the tranny wants it... This cost me about $5 and took very little time to install. The only down side I have seen so far is... On a steep hill I have to use/pull both brakes to hold the car on the hill. Depending on the hill, with one tire locked up, the car may just slide on dirt untill the other side is locked. What do you think Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--just a GL with a new body! 01 Forester--getting a little jealous.
  15. So this would have been in 1985 or so...? I had no idea folks were messing with Subs back then? I have always wondered who or when the first Subie was lifted The Wheels were known as "Turbines". Never seen that design in a 4X140 Whoever did it, did a real nice job, I love the fender flares. Great pics, Thanks for sharing Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  16. Put some finishing touches on the Buggy last weekend. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=6003 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=6002&sort=1&size=medium&cat=500 Comments... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--gettin more dunner all the time... 01 Forester--mostly finished.
  17. Just for fun, Put out a WTB thread in the "Market Place" and see who pops up with stuff? There is a handful of folks who do or have made stuff like that to sell. Mudrat does good work. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  18. The personal trainer guy in "Napoleon Dynamite" drove an old Brat. In the "Cannonball Run" didn't some Japanese guys drive a highly modified GL? I don't get out much...
  19. Cast another vote for the filters. Can you get gas to pump to the filters if you uncouple the hose at the filter?
  20. What pic/license plate are we talking about?
  21. Welcome to the board, I had this same basic question on my Forester, I did a search and found it was located in the spare tire well under the rear deck. It was a female connector taped to the regular harness. Look for an unused plug hiding in the back of the spare tire well, (not in the bottom). It will probably be located in a slightly different place but it's got to be close... Have you tried a search? Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  22. I kinda agree with Subie Gal, What Car do you own? The method you choose is probably directly related to your car? If your car is new you'd wanna replace the part. If it is an old beater then a phone pole is prolly just fine... However, I'd be real careful with the phone pole method, small adjustments can be very hard to get right and very easy to screw up worse!!!
  23. Norbert, Welcome to the board! You have the best Brat, I have ever seen That Brat looks like it is new. You are very lucky to have such a nice car! Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester
  24. I'm not sure about this either... The thing is brand new and it out of gas and the check engine light is already on Could we rebadge this one with a Chevrolet tag and deny it's existance? It's ugly! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer--started life as a good looking car. 01 Forester--kinda queer looking but still a good car.
