They can be found, they are just expensive. I was quoted $30/ for some on another vehicle... No thanks! I have a snow scraper that works fine for much le$$.

The only thing I have done is the winch myself up my front lawn! My winch says it has no brake but it does not slip back under load? I have noticed the new ones are saying they have a brake? (automatic load holding) It has been my experience that they DO have brakes even though mine said it didn't. With a snatch block your doubling your load so you should be ok with a Sub? It's not the best winch, the #3000 one should be better but it was twice as much money. I think for as much as I'll ever use it the #2000 will be just fine. I admit it I got it because I thought it would be cool not because I thought I'd need it. Shhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone

I'd say most of the hitches for Subarus are hard to see. All the ones I've seen are just a small receiver hiding a fraction of an inch below the bumper? I have a Draw-Tite and am happy with it. It has the small size receiver and you don't really notice it. Good Luck Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--Custom Hitch 01 Forester--DrawTite Hitch

I'd do a quick test and make sure your motor is good If you just jump power to the fan you'll know right away if it's the motor or the resistors/switch. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I used an old hitch from another vehicle and mounted it to the underside of the rear deck of my Hatch and then to the bumper. Worked great towing a sail boat. I did end up reinforcing the bumper mounts. Good Luck. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I was going to put one of those on the Buggy. I even measured it and built a space for it, but finally I decided it was too heavy besides drawing a bunch of juice. I decided on the smaller HF #2000 winch with a snatch block. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=32&sort=1&cat=500&page=3 This one goes on sale for $39-49. Sold! I'm not sure you really need a #8000 winch on a Subaru? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

AWD and 4WD are just different animals. AWD maybe superior for traction control but you can't climb with the AWD setup. That's why people are doing the D/R tranny. The D/R will give you the ability to do some real 4wding. The stock AWD is a waste of time on anything but snow (and it's real good there). It boils down to what you want out of your vehicle. I want the ability to climb like my old GL had. I'll gladly sacrafice traction control for gearing. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--"Good" gears 01 Forester--No gears! The Australians also have the newer D/R trannys.

AC and Fan?
Sweet82 replied to David C's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
The Fans are thermostaticly controlled. If you turn the car off it will get hotter for a while before it slowly cools. This happens because the air is no longer flowing through the grill and engine bay. If you turn it back on soon after you turned it off, the fan sensors could easily be hot enough to send a signal to the system to turn on a fan? So it may appear as though turning the car off and turning it back on makes the fans go on? ...Just a thought... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
My question after reading your post is.... Are your fans working? One fan should come on with your AC as soon as the switch on the dash is turned. Is this happening? Just for fun Jump power to your fans and see if they are playing the game? Next I'd look at the relays that control the fans. On my Forester they were "swappable" with other relays so the test was easy. My main fan was not working and my heat would do strange things... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I think it was 82 also, the grill for 83 is different. I have never seen the cyclopse light in anything but the 82 grill pattern (stock). Brochures don't mention it any other years... Glenn, 82 SubauHummer 01 Forester

The pictures make it look identical to the Front wheel drive ones!

I think the main must have is Big Tires and a Push Bar! Oh! Sorry, that's older generation answer. If your looking for crap to put on your car, try the "Market Place". There is always good deals to be had! "Dr. Outback" (and others) usually have some dealer close outs that they are just dying to get rid of. As for your CD-R, some older decks just don't recoginze that format. Although, I'd think an 03 would? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--what's an option? 01 Forester--all options supplied by Dr. Outback.

In the owners manuel it mentions that during a idle the oil pressure gauge may read "0". As soon as you rev the motor, the oil pressure gauge should come back to life. That is the best I can paraphraise what it said. Having said that, I think the two problems are unrelated. I'd go along with the thermo switch on the fan or the fan is bunk. Have you jumped power to the fan to see if it still wants to play? Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

If it's loud, I'd bet you have some sort of exhaust leak. Once the car is up to operating temp it should be only very slightly noiser than any other car and most of that noise should be road noise. Check if the noise is related to the motor or chassis. Push the clutch in(or neutral) and rev the motor a bit as your driving at speed. This will tell you if it's related to the motor or not? My bet is something in the exhaust system needs some minor attention. Welcome to the board and... Let us know what you found? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
It's a parts car! It has obviously been used as a parts car already... You could "buy it now" for the $490 and part it out and still come out ahead! There is just too much missing to make it reasonable to restore. You could buy a better on for much less than you could even start to restore this one.

Someone up in your neck of the woods is running ATV tires on their Justy. I don't think it would rally well but it may be a lot of fun in the mud? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I believe it's a motor match thing rather than a body or year match thing. As I understand it, an EA81 axle matches to EA81's, years don't matter. EA82 to EA82's. I believe Turbos are an exception to this and have more splines on the axles. Anyone else? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--can use axles up to 1984. 01 Forester

I'd mix any brand with any other brand as long as they were the same weight. It's the weights that could cause a problem not the additives. Although in a pinch, I'd mix weights & brands rather than run it low. My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I think we have all learned a lesson about cleaning the crud off a Subaru! I'd bet your Subaru liked being dirty and is now mad at you! Water in the distributer cap??? Dry it out and try it again... Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -

The jump seats are not illegal. If they were imported with them in, then they passed all DOT regulations for sale in the US. They quit putting them in, in the later models but that was for liability reasons. I have checked out most of the local Junk Yards and there are no seats to be had. :-\ I know of a hidden stash of Subarus and some of them have the seats (old and new generation) but I have not been able to run down the owner. The main difference is the multi part drive line associated with the 5 speed. The 4 speed has a one piece driveline and thats what the 82 is set up for. The 4 speed has lower gears than the 5 speed but if you want it for freeway driving what about taller tires and no tranny swap? Another thought is use the 4 speed driveline and have it redone to the proper length for the 5 speed tranny thus allowing you less headaches on the driveline install? I have plenty of usless suggestions... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--shortened driveline 01 Forester--factory driveline
