Snorkel Done! Looks Better Than A Safari!!!

Without pictures...does it really exist? ...Photoshop... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 ForesterG -
Welcome to the board! Cool Buggy! I don't think there is any extra work envolved in a turbo vs. anything else. If your truely using the "one donor" concept then it won't make any difference what you do. Your swapping all the parts over. If you frankenstein it your in for a world of problems. If I was going to choose motors/donor vehicles, I'd choose an injected candidate. As the Rock Crawlers know...a carb can be tempremental on steep angles. Unless you already have a donor, I'd shop for an injected model. A turbo is cool but, I'd bet most of your needs will not be high end rpms (turbo)? I'd bet low end torque is what your going to be using most of the time---espescially if you put bigger tires on it! Tires. Lots of opinions here! I'd suggest analyzing your Geography, Driving style in making that decision. If clearance is everything go "Big" with the tires. But remember "Big" tires w/o lowering your gear ratio gives you less climbing ability. The equation your balancing with tires is climbing VS. clearance. As far as the tranny goes, I think the gearing of a 4 speed would be better. With a 4 you have a one piece drive line (easyier install) and you'll never need that 5th gear off-road--esp. with larger tires. No matter what you do, you'll have more clearance, better power and your angle of approach and departure will be better than most any Subie around. This occurs because your loosing serious weight and your not bound by unibody restrictions. Good Luck,....You'll need it! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Help me find my tinker-bell!
Sweet82 replied to elcaminokurt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I actually put "Tinker Bell" in Summer When people get in the buggy and don't fasten their seat belt, they start laughing when "Tinker Bell" goes off reminding them to buckle up! I love that little bell! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--still tinkles! 01 Forester--never tinkles -
I have always had to bump the pedal to unlock the choke/high rpms when it's warming up. I have never seen it calm down on it's own but then again, I never let it run long enough to see if it will do it on it's own? For what that's worth? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Donny, Hate to see you go... You have the cutest little boys around (next to mine). Say Hi to the guys in Laramie. I like Missoula, I think you'll like it too. What's up with the RX? Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

a wagon wheel of a different color
Sweet82 replied to karinvail's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That looks fantastic! I had never though about that color scheme before. I think it looks great! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Does the car need to be street legal? Might I suggest removing the body for a huge weight reduction? I saved a "ton" of weight by doing that. Glass weighs! Doors weigh, Hatches weigh, Hood weighs, Seats weigh a bit, My chrome bumper didn't weigh that much... What do you need the car to do? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--serious weight reduction 01 Forester

I'd bet the motor is fine and the wiring is messed. Try jumping power to the blower and see if it behaves? Put a volt-o-meter on it next time it don't wanna play and see if your getting power? My money is on the resistors for the speed setting are messed or in the process of messing up. Check your grounds too! Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I would have suspected the heat shields on the exhaust pipe. I have always got rocks or pieces of rust rattleing around in them. They only made noise during a shift too? That was easy to trouble shoot by pounding on various points on the underside. Have you isolated the noise to the tranny and not to the exhaust? Humm, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Didn't they do this on Monster Garage Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Welcome to the board! I've found the basic tune up kit does extremely well on these old beasts. Plugs, a cap and wires seems to cure everything. Four wheel drive in a small car is amazing! Enjoy you new toy. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I was just messin with ya on the sawzall bit... Howerver, On the Buggy when I hit an exposed metal edge, I used that small drip Irrigation tubing split open to form a molding. This made it so the metal edges are not such a problem. My dash, all metal side pannels, rear pannel and windshield are all lined with tubing to eliminate any sharp edges... http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/MVC_174F Here is what I talking about in case anyone cares... Tubing came from Harbor Freight for $5 on sale. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

running rich EA81 Hitachi Carb
Sweet82 replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
S'ko, Mine was bolted to the same bolt that the hood release latch is attacted with. Should be a black or blue box 2" X 3" X 1". I had a big Mitsibishi logo on mine. Has a six prong wire clip attached to it. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -

The horns, on my car are between the grill and the front cross member (ahead of the radiator). Just behind the plastic grill. Good Luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I'd check for corrosion on the horn wire clips. I had the same basic problem. I took it off and cleaned the horn and clips. Worked just fine after that. Harbor Freight has $7 horns on occasion. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

The wrong fuel pump control unit box will tell your carb & pump the wrong things I had the wrong FPCU on my buggy for a while. It ran... but it ran rich. Just a thought... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
