  2. Welcome to the lego's of automobiles. Alot of parts are interchangable bewteen years and models. Its one fo the joys of Subaru not being a high output mfg. If you find a pair of seats you like, they should bolt right in. nipper
  3. It was running perfectly fine before you bought gas? nipper
  4. It takes time for the seats to heat up. Mine can take ten minutes sometimes. Check the seat heaters using an ohm meter. Its possible that the heaters themselves are bad (open). I know i have one that is on my car. nipper
  5. Fuel issues usually come up on acceleration or load. You dont have a fuel problem. Instead of buying a plug, buy a spark tester. Its like a plug, just specifically made for this purpose (read no OWOWOWOW). Where are you finding $25.00 position sensors? nipper
  6. Makes perfect sense to me. The car cant tell how hot it is, so to be on the safe side it turns on both fans. nipper
  7. The crankshaft position sensor can drive you nuts. Dont use starter fluid. The next time it happens you need to see if you have spark. There are a few posts like yours where it has turned out to be a sensor, either the temp sensor or the crank sensor. You say the ecu temp sensor is fine? How can you tell? Have the codes been pulled off the car? The ECU and CTS wont throw codes unless the car is running. If they fail on startup the code wont register. nipper
  8. If he wouldnt crank, it needs starter solenoid contacts, an easy thing to do. If it cranked and wouldnt start (it takes air spark and fuel to run.. why does everyone blame the fuelpump) i woudl suspect the crank position sensor or the engine temp sensor. nipper
  9. Welcome to the site The 2.5L is NOT a nightmare engine. It may or may not blow a HG, but thats only about 15% of them. Personally and professionally i have found VW's to be complete nightmares electrically as they age. There isnt much you can do. You have to realize its a heavy AWD car with an automatic transmission. It is 100% dependable. The car is built like a truck. A car is so much more then the engine. When things start falling off the VW the subaru will still look like you bought it. You can upgrade the brakes and the struts, thats about it. The 2.5L is about at the edge of its design envelope as far as mods for this year. They squeezed all the power out of it they could. Dont go with a high flow intake, you will get the intake electronics angry and have even bigger problems. Keep away from any of the "chips" on ebay, they will damage the cats,m and arent true chips. I think you can get a programable ECU, but thats way more then 500.00. If you wanted to get something to tune, and impreza would have been a better bet. You bought a good loyale get you anywhere in any weather car. nipper
  10. Heck, Blu is going to alaska soon (from NY). Granted Blu has a new engine, is 10 years old, and everything else is original. I would never do that with any other car. with 210,000 miles on it. ALl my old gen subarus bot killed by rust only, way past 260,000 miles. Rust kills, engines run forever. nipper

The leds are very directional and not great bouncing light. You may find yourself needing to use three or four pointed in differnt directions to get the same light pattern as a bulb. nipper

  13. There are two problems. The first is that there is a blue lense/filter on some of the lights. Also the back of the gauges are covered with a reflective material. this helps disperse the incadescent light to illuminate the gauges. LED's are extreemly directional in the light they throw off, so i dont think brighter will have much of an effect. What you need is more of them. nipper
  14. As I tell anyone i teach auto 101 to, nothing has really changed in 100 years. The last big change was the rotary engine. You still have air/fuel/spark (or a heat source), valves, camshaft, connecting rods, pistons and a crank shaft. Everything else is just newer ways to manage the basics. If you understand how a carberator works, its not that hard to understand fuel injection. Now once they get electromechanical valves perfected, that will be the first real change in 100 years to the internal combustion engine.   19. Thats why ford licensed prius technology for their cars. Its not the parts that are tough to make, its the competer software that gets tough to make from scratch. Always cheaper to license a mature technology then build one from scratch. Gm did that from Jeep for years. nipper
  20. They cant do a proper wheel alignment with bad tie rods. I dont know about the price quote, but i dont like it whenever a shop says you need things like a fuel injection cleaning when you didnt have any running complaints. Find a real front end shop and let them look at it. nipper
