  1. you only have to have AWD cars towed on a flatbed, not 4WD cars that can disengage the front and rear diffs. completely, like on your car. the "binding" that you are experiencing is normal sounding to me, mine does that unless it is in mud or grass or snow or what-have-you, just remember, dont force it, try backing up and turning different ways to "unbind" the tranny. dont worry about it to much. ~Josh~
  2. do the words "cruel and unusual" mean anyhting to you WJM? thats just cold-blooded. have to admit, you got me, hook........line.........and sinker. ~Josh~
  3. ya i second the motion of scrubbing your windshield with an abrasive compound of some sort, then wash thouroughly, and windex, then rain-x, at 65 MPH even buckets of water wont stop rain-x, gotta love technology. the guys i work with dont use rain-x, they love to use their dam wipers in the pouring rain, i hate wipers, i wish that my vision of the road didnt have to be interupted for those brief seconds whikle they're on. ~Josh~
  4. for your tranny oil, i went to wally world and picked up a quart of full synthetic 75w-140 and a gallon of plain GL-5 75w-90, used 2.5 quarts of 75w-90 and one quart 75w-140 and about a half quart of 10w-40 motor oil, to help on cold mornings, for your oil filter, castrol or Delo 400 multigrade 15w-40, and a casite, hastings, wix, or purolator filter, i stand by the first 3, purolater seems a little too close to fram's price range, but people have had good luck with them. NO FRAM ANYWHERE ON YOUR CAR...........AT ANY TIME!!!!!!! and for god's sake, change your own oil, dont go to retard-lube. thats my advice. ~Josh~
  5. if you can find any inline fuel pump that meets the pressure requirements at like napa or schucks or whatever, wire it into a toggle switch or into your existing fuel pump relay, should work just fine, as long as pump is made for Multiport fuel injection, were pressure is high. dont get a fuel pump that goes in the tank, and if you want to, mount fuel pump in engine compartment for easy access, and its farther away from rocks and stuff, just make sure its far enough away from motor to not get hot, the fuel is supposed to cool pump. ~Josh~
  6. tires!!!!......and a lift of course. and good shocks and struts, but mostly its car placement and driver-car relationship. if you know your car, and how it turns and all that jazz, your a lethal weapon behind the wheel in the mud. ~Josh~
  7. if you do get it to work you would have to get the timing somewhere around 100 degrees BTDC, hydrogen takes almost no spark to ignite it, static electricity from your shoes on carpet will ignite it, hydrogen is very unstable, now helium on the other hand, is readily available and much more stable than hydrogen, and its cheaper to buy than to make hydrogen by yourself using electricity or portable nuclear reactors or whathaveyou. just something to think about, and your exhaust would make honda low-emission vehicles look like 510 C.I. carbuerated nitromethane funny cars. thats my 2 abes. ~Josh~
  8. i would think that it would fit any subaru with a double din cd/cassette player sized radio opening. ~Josh~
  9. definately a good swap to do, but if i were you, i would use the EJ18 instead, 30 less horse and torque but you will probably get better mileage and a higher redline with it. i recently put a EJ22 into an 86' GL wagon, it moves it along ALOT better than the EA82 motor that was in it before, if you do a search for "EJ22 swap" you will find out a few of the "unknowns" of this kind of motor swap, and be prepared to do alot of research for your wiring aspect of the project, its difficult but doable by the average guy, IF you take your time and triple check everything. yes, people have put ej22's in hatchbacks, a guy named subarino did it, hes from australia, http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361hUEpcw/1 try this site, it will answer some basic questions, good luck. ~Josh~
  10. or just pull a "Calebz" and throw a wrx turbo on it, lol. read up and do a search about turbo mods, it will get you answers faster than asking on the message board, no waiting on replys. Good luck. ~Josh~
  11. no sorry dude, your rear end is just a plain-jane 3.90 open-diff, just like mine. as fox said, body lifts dont ever encounter any part of the suspension, but it does allow you to run taller and wider rims and tires for added ground clearance, so if you get a 3'' lift and 27'' tires on your car, your looking at about a 5'' gain in overall ground clearance, which is a real plus when your in the mud and snow. good luck with your mods, have fun. ~Josh~
  12. i have heard rave reviews from both kinds of shocks, but im partial to KYB-GR2's.
  13. they should all be like that man..........what the heck good is tech school? ~Josh~
  14. i recently completed a similar swap, you use 12mm or 1/2'' aluminum or steel plate to make adapter, not that hard really, bottom 2 holes on EA and EJ trannies and motors share same bolt patterns, its only the top 2 that need to be fiddled with. you will need the ecu and complete wiring harness from the EJ car, then you will need to separate the wires that you need and dont need, get a chiltons and do some searching on this board, you will also have to use the flexible type radiator hoses, and modify the engine crossmember a little, do a search for EJ22 swap and look through all the results, and you will get a lot of answers, and many more questions. it would be a lot easier to do an engine rebuild or buy another EA82 motor for the sedan, or buy a tranny for the 96 subie, unless you like a really good challenge and have a car to drive right now. hopes this helps. ~Josh~
  15. you can take the the pistons out without splitting the block easily, you just need a 14mm hex head aka, allen wrench, there like $10 at harbor freight, or you can get the giant sized hex head set for like $20, buy the set, i did. but you wont be able to get to the con rods without splitting the block, but if you split the block, its a good idea to get new valves and bearings and seals and rings and all that good stuff, if you have a rebuild kit handy, id go for it, it will be basically a brand new motor when your done. especially if your going to boost the snot out of it and lay waste to your tires in it, cant go wrong with a little added insurance, hell while your at it, you could grab yourself some aftermarket forged pistons and con rods, balance and blueprint the whole thing and spin it to like 8.5k......but those are just pipe dreams........... ~Josh~
  16. and this one too........what is going on, anyone with any experience in these matters please guide me, sounds too good, and too cheap to be true. try this one too. http://www.drivewire.com/subaruparts/catalog/clutchpressureplate1988-1991subaruxt62.74wd.html ~Josh~
  17. okay did osme more searching, does this sound like "too good to be true" kinda deal, i mean no way can it be that cheap. http://replacement.autopartswarehouse.com/parts/autopartswarehouse/wizard.jsp?year=1988&make=SU&model=XT6-4WD-001&category=I&part=Pressure+Plate makes me wonder, what you guys think? ~Josh~
  18. the 185/70/R14 will be about an inch to an inch and a quarter bigger in diameter, you probably wont notice the extra 1/2'' or so in height, but you might notice the loss, however small, in gearing, your speedo and odo will be off a little, like you care right? anyway it will more than likely be a smoother ride, maybe go 195/70/R14 for some extra rubber on the tarmac. ~Josh~
  19. i believe that is one of the impact sensors for the air bags, thats my guess. ~Josh~
  20. thanks everyone, so the RX turbo and XT6 Pres. plate have aobut the same holding power and bolt pattern, my EJ22 is making the clutch slip like crazy, its cool that i have enough torque to do that, but i want all those ponies goin to the ground, so i have to have the pres. plate machined down to XT6 spec for the clutch to grab correctly, maybe ill pm john, instead of beatin around the bush. again, thank you everyone. ~Josh~
  21. I was doin some searching on here and found some good info about an XT6 pressure plate fitting on an EA82 flywheel, is this true, if so found this on the net https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/partscat.html sounds like a good deal to me, anyone wanna help give me some pointers, come on, dont be shy, thats it. any stipulations i should be aware of? ~Josh~
  22. you could always try using a torch at a safe distance to heat it up and scrape it off with putty knife, or drive it into a meat locker.....lol thats funny. ~Josh~
  23. interesting, to say the least, any ballpark figures for cost, and what is the lift made from? is it round tubing or square? just a few questions. any info appreciated. ~Josh~
  24. possibly a loose brake rotor, or possibly a loose axle, one that the castle nut has become loose or the tranny-side of axle is loose, just my best guess. dont know what to tell you. ~Josh~
