  1. i think that you can swap the SOHC short block onto the DOHC heads and get away with it, but you cant swap SOHC motor into car that was originally DOHC, the ecu's have different settings for the extra 2 cams. that is about as much as i know. wait a tick......i dont think you can swap the DOHC heads onto a SOHC short block, i cant remember if the blocks are different or not. i think the DOHC short blocks are bigger for the DOHC heads to bolt to. are you sure you have DOHC, i didnt think that the DOHC EJ25's came into the legacy cars until 2001.......i could be wrong though. ~Josh~
  2. youre best bet would be to probably just strip the harness down to only the wires needed to run the motor, since it seems like you have wiring experience, that makes the most sense, and its a bit easy than basically building your own ecu and timing/fuel/boost maps. is you dont have CC on oyur car and want it, keep the wires for CC and grab all the mechanical components and add it to your car. its too much work to try to take out 2 harnesses, just take out one and run the motor off it. your stock gauges for temp, tach and speedo should all be normal, oyu might have to splice a couple, but after stripping a harness down thats nothing to worry about. Good luck, ~Josh~
  3. not to mention youre going to need the 4WD gas tank, it has a divet in it for the rear diff. the frame should have some or most of the mounting holes for the 4WD stuff, make sure you can get easy access to the donor car, you will need some stuff that we cant remmeber right now im sure. its not too hard, just laborious, a hand would go a long way in your project. ~Josh~
  4. i belive all SOHC EJ22's are N/A and the turbo'd ones are DOHC, but dont quote me on it. yes a WRX motor will fit in a 82 suby, its just like a 1/4'' formt he frame rails is all, ask austin he did it, suby motors are all about the same width, and depth, except for the pushrod EA81's are a little narrower. people have put turbo's on N/A EJ22's before, dont know what boost they run, but it cant be too much, internals arent forged, they're just cast aluminum. and the motor is open-deck design, not like the wrx motor or sti motors are. ~Josh~
  5. ya T.O.S. syndrome is right, for some reason the carb'd 1.8L suby motors dont like hills. ~Josh~
  6. well from what i gather from your ordeal, legacy seats werent that much different than XT seats, however, the legacy seats are about an inch taller than the stock ones, so for those of you who like seeing things on the trail, that conversion is for you. ~Josh~
  7. My 98 sedan has that crap, but my 86' doesnt, go figure, like either engine is hotter than one another...lol and the 86' has NO peeling paint on the hood, and its been through a couple of overheats. ~Josh~
  8. as far as emissions, id think that as long as you passed smog and didnt hint to an engine swap. you should be okay, if they ask to see under the hood, dont know if they would know what they are supposed to be looking at anyway. (Hey!!!.............EJ20's dont come in that car!!!!...........Come on Smog-Car-Goons, lets get him!!!!) but really as far as OBD-2 motor in a OBD-1 car, just swap intake manifold of OBD-1 car onto OBD-2 motor, and plug anyhting that vents to the atmosphere that isnt supposed to. ~Josh~
  9. i recently did the accord rear spring swap and it is impressive. the springs i got shipped to me were only like 1'' taller than the stock springs(compared springs off the struts) but since they are so much stiffer, the car only drops down like 1.5'' when you put the weight back on the tires. so you might want to take about an inch or so off them if you do that swap. as far as the lift eating cv's, its probably the 4'' lift huh? the 4'' comes with 4'' strut extensions and 3'' body lift blocks, which is an extra inch of angle on the cv's, thats where you get your problems, but remmeber cv axles are cheap at JY's, just grab a new one for like $15 or however much they are. ~Josh~
  10. i think you need the spfi distributor and it needs some kind of gear swapped onto it instead of the spfi one, it needs the carb'd one......theres a write-up about it in the USRM. ima look at it right now lol... ~Josh~
  11. well your tranny is 3'' farther from your body, that will affect the way the shifter moves, trim the metal like previously posted or see if your shifter bushings and linkage bolts are tightened. ~Josh~
  12. you got a rotarty in a RX, way cool, that puts my car to shame. good job man, was the wiring hard or not that bad? ~Josh~
  13. i agree with the above, import motors now-a-days are pretty well balanced and all that jazz, now if you wanted to spin at a higher rpm, you might think about balancing the rotating assembly and blueprinting the motor for tolerances, but whoa wants to spend that kinda dough on a motor that will last 200k with new rings and bearings? ~Josh~
  14. oh...and they weld it back together....sorry, forgot to say that part. ~Josh~
  15. youre right this is common, alot of people just cut it in half and find some scrap steel pipe thta has an inside diameter the same or close to that of the outside diameter of the pitch stop. ~Josh~
  16. ahh you didnt want that viscous-glorified-LSD anyway, pretty much youre stuck with finding one from another suby, because you'd have to sell a kidney to get one from another source. ~Josh~
  17. im afraid hes right man, but wouldnt it be awesome if you could. There's just too much stuff in a suby gear box. ~Josh~
  18. i live in an apartment complex that might as well be called "little mexico", no offense to our spanish, or latin, or puerto rican bros here, but DAMN CIRCUS MUSIC!!! i have really dark tint on my 98' legacy, its hard to see in at night. but i saw some guys snoopin in one night, thats what a shotguns for................hate to see a F-d up dash man. hope your insurance company doesnt total your car for that. ~Josh~
  19. thanks alot tim...you screwed it up for the rest of us.........................get one sell one my A$$! j/k... didnt want to hear "it" from the wifey, wise choice. ~Josh~
  20. dang man.....i bit overkill aint it? glad to hear you got it out. ~Josh~
  21. since we're re-living screw-ups of days past, ill join in. a while back before the mudding and the snow incidents......and the police............i was having fuin with my best bud and his two younger bros in my 86' GL, a was approaching a corner i liked, because it was hard to take the correct way, its a 25 mph corner, but at the top it turns to the left. i approach it at about 55 or so, have it in 4 HI and start easying on the gas just as i start to turn in, i start to oversteer, i dont correct and i hit the brakes, i end up doing a 540 degree trun thru the corner and slam rump roast end into a ditch. i check to see if everyone is okay and put it in 4 LO and crawl out of ditch....lol......i then smoked my first cigarette. ~Josh~
  22. if it were me, and both companies were the same as far as inspections and quality of motor is concerned. i would go with the $875 motor, one year unlimited mile, is worth a benjamin to me, in comparison to just a 180 day warranty. ~Josh~
  23. dont forget about the starion IC, but starions are more harder to find than saab turbo cars. ~Josh~
  24. i have no idea...............just wanted to make you feel better about all the views and not any replies. ~Josh~
