What model years used SPFI, MPFI?
ballitch replied to Rallywagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well i think all legacy's have multipoint and all loyales from 87' ,or whenever they started, up thru like 91. but i think after about 92'-93' all SPFI were replaced with the MPFI, MPFI has better control over fuel dispersal per cylinder than SPFI, obviously, and gains you fuel mileage as well as a few ponies to boot. if you want fuel injection but dont want a ton of computer stuff to go along with it, use SPFI, vice versa apllies. but if you want more power and beeter gas mileage and a little more power go with MPFI. hope this helps. ~Josh~ -
thx man, i just hope the RX springs are the same height, im going to cut down the accrod springs to go back to stock height. well maybe a custom 1/2'' lift is in order.... ~Josh~

After some searching i found the front accord springs conversion, from a 86-88 accord. however, i came across the fact that RX front springs will fit and have a little better spring rate and are the same size, is this for sure true or someones vague advice? found accord front springs for like $60 shipped which is an awesome deal, plus they are new springs and not used. any help fellas? ~Josh~

yes it should, as long as you swap the motor harness onto the intkae of the ej25 or ej20. ~Josh~

its part of the intake resonance system, to kepe high rpm and idle motor noises to a minimum, if you remove it and replace it with the non-airbox type you will get better flow and more engine noise, if your into that kinda thing. other than that it serves no purpose except to stor air in the intake tubing until the motor needs a larger volume of air i.e. when oyu floor it all of a sudden. ~Josh~

the only things to worry about with EJ18 heads on EJ22 block is the thinckness of the head gasket and the timing belt tensioners, the EJ18 heads are the tiniest bit closer to the crank than the EJ22 heads, like a couple thousandths or something. that will, in theory, make the tensoiners work harder and breakdown faster. i say dont screw witha good thing. yes the EJ18 ECU will rune the EJ22 just fine, the computer will compensate for the extra displacement. ~Josh~

Looking into EA82 to EJ22 swap *Updating For Possible Writeup*
ballitch replied to TurboSPFI's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
first off, consider at least a $600-$800 budget in mind, including motor of course. i got my EJ22 for $400. ill list some of the things you will need that i can remember of-hand. EJ22, duh make your own or buy mudrat79's adapter kit, its the "adapter plate" EA82 flywheel redriled for EJ22 crankshaft bolt pattern XT6 clutch components(pres. plate, clutch disc) EJ22 exhaust header complete car wiring harness, yes the whole thing, preferably one from a manual trans. car intake tubing for EJ22, with MAF sensor MPFI fuel pump of some kind, inline pump, not in-tank pump, wire it to ignition do a search for EJ22 swap, you'll find my threads and barracuda's, austin's, noah's, as well as many others that have done this converison. one thing i cant stress enough is YOU CAN DO THE WIRING, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE THOUROUGH, AND GET A WIRING DIAGRAM FORM CHILTONS OR ONLINE SOMEPLACE. the radiator hoses are going to be "fun" and you should get a 12'' long 1.25'' dia. flexible radiator hose for the top, and a 18'' long 1.25'' dia. radiator hose for the bottom, longer so it wont kink and restrict coolant flow. order kennedy engineering's $20 wiring diagram, it will be worth it trust me. thats about all i can thin of right now. ~Josh~ -
as long as you get an EJ22 with the same engine harness plugs as the EJ18 thats in there it will literally bolt up and wire in like nothing, if engine harness has different plugs, just swap EJ18 engine harness onto EJ22 motor, and your done. you can use the same MAF and everything, except make sure you have the same kind of heads as the EJ18 or else you will need to get different exhaust headers. ~Josh~

dont bother going to the salem JY, there all "wait in the lobby" places, the one in turner however, i go to often, they got a 1980something XT-6 fulltime 4WD in the last week or so, any parts, including motor are still there, but its auto tranny. ~Josh~

got my lifted wagon back today
ballitch replied to soobmater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
good job man, and good job John. Now all you need is an EJ22 in that beast and you will be set for a while. ~Josh~ -
differences between GL-10 and XT6 seats?
ballitch replied to enchained's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
awe screw that man just swap in legacy or impreza seats, im 6'5'' and i can fit in my car still, the impeza seats i got are about 1.5'' higher in the front and the same height as the stock GL seats in the back, more like racing seats:brow: . ~Josh~ -
i priced out a car to be shipped form Montana to Oregon, the bill was going to be like $900 for like 800 miles........needless to say i didnt get the car shipped here or buy it for that matter. ~Josh~

I beleive the stock piping size is like 1.25 inches, so a 1.75'' or 2'' diameter would net you some better power, but it will move the power band up a thousand or so RPM's. but dont forget to open up the intake a bit also, no sense opening the bottom-end, to only be restricted at the top-end. and for god's-sake, only have one CAT on there, just for emissions. ~Josh~

dont worry 'cuda, if your not done with your conversion, ill let you take my car out for a spin at the meet...........................jealous.............theres a little motovation for ya. ~Josh~

sloppy feel in neutral could be just the shifter bushings, most often your tranny is okay if you can run it thru the gears with little to no effort. just make sure that the tranny is, or has been bolted up to a motor to keep the weather out it. Is your car MT or auto? if it stick and you have an EA82 under the hood it will bolt right up and reconnect all the wires going from old tranny to their respective places on the new tranny. and of course im probably leaving some details out of this that i cant remember right now. ~Josh~

for an engine hoist lift place, i use the intake manifold to yank my motors out. there are a total of 7 bolts to take off to get motor out, minus your exhaust and wiring. 2 upper tranny bolts, 2 lower tranny bolts, 2 engine mount nuts, and the pitch stopper. jack tranny up and use motor hoist to get the weight off tranny, and move motor side-to-side motion, should free itself eventually, gonna have to break out the elbow grease. ~Josh~

i think that oyu can draw fuel thru the pump with no pwer to the pump itself, i think i heard/saw that sometime here., or just unhook the fi pump, connect the piping and put the carby pump in the enigine bay away from heat. ~Josh~

you have to use the auto starter, if your using the auto trans. there are two big gauge wires, one red for power, one black for ground, and one tiny wire with a spade-like connector for the starter solenoid, goes on the little protruding male connector on the starter. did the motor come out of running car? did the motor turn when it was out of the car? ~Josh~
