  1. depends on the quality of the tire, and if you keep them inflated, rotated and have your car's alignment in good order, plus the way you drive, but for the most part id say its your P.O.S. automatic trhats the biggest problem. ~Josh~
  2. i put mine behind the glovebox, all nice a purdy-like. ~Josh~
  3. not too difficult i didnt think..........wiring is the hard part. ~Josh~
  4. ya if you want more room for wrenching, just flip the wires and recconnect them. i had to do it to make room for the EJ22 i put in my car. ~Josh~
  5. if what you say is true, your just dealing with mostly crumpled sheet metal, i say fix it up, you got paid from the insurance, you bought it back, use the money to fix it up and maybe try to sell it then if you still dont want it. if it just a buper and bumper support, fenders, hood. and nothing mechanical really, i say just fix it up and deal with the totalled/reconstructed title. ~Josh~
  6. weird, im running my MPFI turbo fuel pump off a toggle switch and works fine. ~Josh~
  7. if oyu want higher octane get your hands on some toluene, that was in that issue of SCC, it has an octane rating of like 114, dont use more than like a 7-10% mix i think is what SCC said. ~Josh~
  8. unless you want a CEL use both O2 sensors, the main thing is just swap the intake manifolds if the plugs are different on the engine harness. you could even swap engine harnesses, but thats kinda a bits to do. if EJ22 is sigle port, try to find a dual port, that way you can use your EJ18 exhaust header. should be pretty much plug and play, all the second 02 sensor is, is to tell the ecu what the 02 level is in AFTER the cat, the first one is before the cat if im not mistaken. ~Josh~
  9. if your car is a 95', you have the 4.11 gearing, 3.90 gears were made only until like 92' i think, someone will chime in and tell me im full of it. ~Josh~
  10. i say good choice, i am 22 and i have had my share of fun, mostly in the mud, but if i had the opportunity to own a wrx in the future, knowing its past, since it was in the family. i would love to be able to, insurance, extra cash up front and higher octane gas is a setback. But the EJ20 has been the discussion piece for what is the best suby motor ever designed and built, the other one is the EJ22/EJ22T. if youre really worried, i say screw drivers ed, didnt learn much from them, go to a big parking lot on a rainy day, set up some cones, make a mini-autocross track and teach the kid how to handle a car with more power. with an emphasis on control and not to impress chicks or his buddies. ~Josh~
  11. i think your right Doc. The EJ18 usually came with the auto, and has a higher redline, smaller engine and all, but kinda anemic, but the old under-the-hood- check solves all questions in 2 seconds. ~Josh~
  12. wait one gosh darned minute, there are aftermarket flywheels for EA82 motors.........are they lightened? damn, im out of the loop, time to do some searching.
  13. ding ding we have a winner, the clutch disc can only go on one way, subaru's way of idiot-proofing their vehicles, thread locker is a great idea....i should do that......dont run that poor thing into a tree, someone could use the parts. ~Josh~
  14. is it throwing any codes or is it just being a subaru? I think taking it down to about 18 degrees BTDC should do it, have you tried unhooking the battery overnight, or for an hour or so, to reset the ECU? better the computer be reset and re-learn the way you drive than for it to ping inself to death. the temp needle should be alittle below halfway when fully warmed up, the EGR vlave suggestion would probably be a good place to continue looking. ~Josh~
  15. the fronts are 4'' and the raer door speakers are 6.5''....you might be able to put in 6'' x 9'' in the rear doors if there is enough clearance, osme speakers have bigger magnets than others, but as far as the fronts go,.....your stuck with 4''. ~Josh~
  16. or......if you want to get really crazy......you could fab up a single lever that you either pull straight back or forward, or move left to right to make the left or right e-brake engage, my dad did it once on his dune buggy, works like a charm he said. pull left, the left e-brake engages, pull right, you guessed it, the right one engages. something to think about........hmmm.....the possibilities........... ~Josh~
  17. screw dual pumps, you are opening more cans of worms that need not be opened, use one really good pump like a wallbro 255 LPH pump, done. you will need a new fuel pres. regulator anyway with turboing you car, and maybe your injectors will run out of "headroom" and cause a loss in power beyond a certain rpm, lots of things to think about when turbo-ing a N/A motor that wasnt meant to be turbocharged. just ask WJM on his fuel probs......he'll tell ya. ~Josh~
  18. K.I.S.S.-------------Keep it simple stupid, one of the best ways to diagnose a car problem. everyone makes the simple mistakes after you finish fixing the big problems. never fails. ~Josh~
  19. thats not to bad man.....i had to do it to an EJ22 harness, how hard do you think that is? I say stay at it, you already did a good amount of work on it. dont bag it yet, best bet is to remove the whole harness form the car, and then figure out which wires you need and dont need, it will bewell worht the extra 10 ponies and much better driveablity, not to mention, not having to warm the damn thing up before you leave your driveway!!! ~Josh~
  20. if you put the clutch disc in backwards you wouldnt be able to bolt the pressure plate onto the flywheel, sounds like you forgot to reconnect the hillholder, if you have one, or maybe the fork-return spring that is attached to the fork and tranny. those are my guesses. ~Josh~
  21. as stated above, check your thermostat, your radiator, if original, probably is clogged in a way that the average flush wouldnt take care of, a sign for headgaskets being the problem, is you will lose alot of power and be unable to maintain highway speeds or accelerate at all, happened to me in my 86 GL also once. have your radiator pressure tested and have the flow checked, you just might need a new thermostat or radiator. ~Josh~
  22. ya you blew your fusible link, or more than one of them, youll know which one lol.
  23. trash talking.......come on guys we're supposed to be beatin up on hondas, not each other. good race though lol ~Josh~
  24. ya the heads are totally different, and the coolant and oil passages are different too, not to mention if they did fit you would have like a 7.5:1 comp. ratio instead of 8.5:1 or 9.0:1, huge drop in HP. do some searching and ask some questions around the board, you CAN put a EJ22 in your car, I did, Austin did, Mudrat does, Noah and Barracuda are all working on their conversions, just "poke" around and decide if its what oyu want to do. ~Josh~
