  1. just throw in the EFI motor, it has less miles and a higher compression ratio, not to mention about 10 HP. no swapping of distys or intakes, it bolts right up, you just need the computer and harness to make it run. more in depth, but better in the long run. ~Josh~
  2. have you gotten the wiring harness from an EJ car yet, or are you planning to go stand alone or whatnot? the engine crossmember holes, need to be bored our 3/8'' or so uphill, you know what i mean right? ask away and do soem searching, many, many people have got this under their belts, but look for one by Subarino, his info will be very in depth. ~Josh~
  3. okay, correct me if im wrong, but i was under the assumption that the EA81 cars have a narrower track than the EA82 or EJ cars do, which means that EA82 axles or EJ axles wont fit in there, also, if youre using the EJ tranny you need your drivshaft shortened i belive by 55mm, or lenghtened by 55mm, one of the two. the 4 speed D/R behind an EJ motor is a chance you'll have to take, but treat it nice and ease on the gas and you should be okay, try to keep the wheel spinning to a minimum. also, if you use the EJ tranny remember that, that tranny is geared for 24.7'' or so tires, not the tiny 22'' or so tires from an EA car, so youre gearing would be better for offroad crawling but bad for highway, but if you get a early 90's legacy tranny, you wont have to swap out your rear diff, same ratios. decide on what kind of mileage you put on your car for the most part. as far as how wide and will it fit on EA81 engine X-member, austin put an EJ into those cars, but it had like 1/2'' clearance from the frame rails, on both sides. i dont think the EJ25 is any wider than the EJ22 so it will fit, just with not much room. ~Josh~
  4. oh come on now, never forget how far we have come, or where we came FROM..........that said, yeah they dont tick, puke oil, or blow HG's..... ~Josh~
  5. am i wrong in suggesting you use the turbo crossmember? so you just threw on SPFI heads on a carb'd block and called it good? in that case you have a measly 8.5:1 CR, and you could run up to about 5-7 pounds everyday, with premium fuel of course. only question is how are you going to get more fuel in the motor? ~Josh~
  6. this discussion always sems to pop back up every now and then, bottom line is, if you treat your tranny like crap, it will take a crap, all you have to do is wait that two tenths of a second, or half second, for the tranny to synch the gears and slowly pour on the throttle, its sounds easy, but we all know how we get when we're excited. ~Josh~
  7. 1986 tan wagon, ej22 from impreza, wiring from legacy, had to swap throttle bodies for the right (4-wire) throttle pos. sensor, used gi-joes flexible radiator hoses, wired two fans in reverse and put in front of radiator, using stock radiator, using EA82 flywheel machined by mudrat, and using XT6 clutch kit mated to the infamous 5 speed D/R. ecu and stuff is behind glove box. i vote for heli coiling studs INTO the adapter plate,if you use aluminum. if i had to do it again, adapter plate would be made from steel, not aluminum, too much of a pain to cut, and i paid to have mine cut by a farm with a plasma cutter, steel is way easier to cut. the wiring i would do first, instead of last, especialy since its getting to be winter time, but that didnt stop me form being in the shop till 3 a.m. on 30 degree nights......note........ find the exhaust manifold that goes with whatever EJ motor oyu use, and make or buy a 2'' or 2.25'' exhaust for it, i didnt, and i can feel the motor out of breathe above 4k.......not good. AND!!! if oyu get the accord rear spring mod like i did, cut the damn springs, even if you get the kind like me, the ones i got were only 3/4'' longer than stock, but twice as stiff, back end only drops like an inch when car weight is on tires, take 2'' off springs, trust me. now i have to pay to get the springs off and on the struts...AGAIN!!! ~Josh~
  8. bump for EJ22 cars out there, got over 6k on my conversion, still running strong, and spinning wheels. ~Josh~
  9. if youre looking for more power and reliability, i would go with a EJ18 swap over the EJ22, higher redline and better gas mileage, a V8 in a 2300 lb car, that is made more for offroad than on-road, you are crazy. my EJ22 can burn rubber almost into 3rd gear on the dry, in the wet its a nightmare to try to take off fast, too much wheelspin, have to use 4wd sometimes. as far as weight in the front with a V8 under the hood, can we say custom made springs with double the spring rate and more travel, with longer struts, and the whole custom motor and tranny mounts, you would also have to remote-mount a radiator that could cool a V8, under the hood maybe, witha custom hood scoop the size of a basketball court. you would also probably twist the unibody sometime soon anyway, after you utterly liquify the reaer end, unless you made it RWD and used a chevy or ford or what ever rear-end, which means more suspension fab work, even a V6 would be hard, and with small 21'' diameter tires, keep dreaming of good mileage, it just isnt viable, unless you had gearing for days and a set of balls to drive the thing around corners at anywhere near the speed you can now. hate to break it to you the hard way, throw a EJ18 in there, cant go wrong, 110 horse is enough for that car, plus you have aftermarket you can have access to now, instead of g.i. joes you can go online and get headers, 2.25'' exhaust, high-flo cat.....if oyu even keep the cats. see the picture im painting.....anyway...good luck man......."you must choose wisely, for the true grail will grant eternal life, the false grail will take it from you" ~Josh~
  10. this is certainly a problem for you, a main reason your using alot of gas is becasue that motor is putting in the amount of gas for a turbo motor, when oyu take turbo off, makes car run really rich and alot less power. if possible try to get another turbo and put it back on, if not, try to convert it to carbuerated, instead of fuel injected. someone will probably have a better solution for your problem. ~Josh~
  11. my congrats to your new conversion, very clean indeed, i placed my ecu behind the glove box and above the plastic ducting in there, never thought of putting it under that part of the dash, how was it to strip the obd-II harness down, i had the luxury of the obd-I, but less power, i hear ya on the speed on hills, you odnt have to downshift at all, and you can cruise around town at 35 in 5th gear and do just fine, saves gas too. but the gearing isnt made for that motor so highway rpms are up there a bit, 85 mph puts her at about 4k. ~Josh~
  12. ive been told by many people that if you turbo a 2.2, you dont need engine management, as long as you dont go over 7 psi, i think 5 pounds would be fine for everyday use. true about the oil squirters, the N/A block dont have them. as for colder plugs, i would stay stock unless you see a problem with the stock plugs. your compression ratio is like 9.5:1 isnt it? so you wouldnt want to boost the hell out of it, maybe 10 pounds for a spirited session, but definately get an I/C and change your coolant, try to keep operating temps down. but beyond that, cant help ya. ~Josh~
  13. the WRX rim is one inch bigger, but the wheel is 15mm smaller than the stock tire. 1/2'' = 12.7mm, so he only losing like 1/4''-5/16'' of overall tire diameter, not enough to throw a speedo or odo off that much, but since your wheesl are closer to the hub, you should be okay as far as wheel bearings go, as long as you dont rub on your struts. ~Josh~
  14. my 98' sedan shifts at about 5k at full throttle, unless i manually do it, my brothers' 95', however, shifts at redline too, mabye just different tunning from different ECU's, but his is FWD and my car is AWD, and i get better gas mileage, go figure. ~Josh~
  15. why from a 95'? all ej22's have the same exterior design, mostly. all bolt up, or is it just a matter of wiring? ~Josh~
  16. i would like to see the hard polyplastic cutting board material used in this application, light, easily replaced, but possibly not as resistent to heat as steel. although in the end steel is probably cheaper and fairly easy to weld, bend. ~Josh~
  17. easy there bud, when you throw around the term "most reliable," many believe the EJ20 to be the best, guess opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. ~Josh~
  18. first of all, i must be a newb, what is a B4 motor? ~Josh~
  19. yes.........but you cant fit the twin turbo motors into the USDM cars unless you feel the need to use a JDM donor car for the steering stuff, the second turbo is right where the steering rod is. and you need the wire harness out of the car, unless youre going stand-alone, like MS-EDIS, or what ever you choose. not to mention the fact that the XT6 uses the EA82 style tranny, which you will need an adapter plate to mate the EJ20 to your tranny. but it is possible to do. ~Josh~
  20. no you do not need the 2.5 computer. people have even used the EJ18 computer to run a EJ25, but i wouldnt reconmend it. should literally bolt up, plug in and drive her around, as long as you get the dual exhaust EJ22, and not the 'preza single port. but as always, do some homework, but this has been done to many cars that had the Phase I EJ25. ~Josh~
  21. the police have easier ways of collecting your money, say speeding or wreckless driving, but as far as tint goes, go darker, i have 20% on the windows in my 98 Legacy sedan, and i did it myself. not hard, just go to home depot or lowes and get the tint solution and sqeegies, and follow the direction. do it in a shop or garage where there is no wind. ~Josh~
  22. one thing you need to know is that most or all of the performance parts for the SOHC EJ25 (2.5 litre) are shared between the EJ22 also, as far as performance and more power, open up the exhaust a little, get a header and 2.25'' exhaust back to a free flowing muffler, not a glasspack please. and punch out a CAT if you dont mind staring at a CEL all the time (CEL is check engine light). ~Josh~
  23. no it will not, the xt6 uses the EA82 style flywheel bolt pattern and also has a "stepped" portion, the wrx flywheel is flat. sorry bud, your S.O.L. on this one. ~Josh~
  24. THAT PLACE WAS AWESOME!!!!! tons of trails and great people to share my hobby with. and i walked away with one busted headlight, one tire blown off the rim, and a right front fender bent up a bit. non-lifted wagons CAN do things offroad, just so everyone knows. thanks for the great time everyone!!!!!! ~Josh~
  25. i cant remember his name, he came with his son, by the way, that was my tent and stack of tires in the background.....pitty my car wasnt in the picture. ~Josh~
